Let me tie Perry Como to Doug's attraction to "whup whups," and see if "hi-yup hi-yup" diddles the same psychic spot. Local station that plays mostly 40s to 70s music had some presumed computer issue that led to a VERY limited playlist for days. I heard Perry's "Wild Horses" ('53) several times, with its kicky "hi-yups" and fun lyrics. Also James Taylor's "Shower The People" among the stuck rotation selections, but that's got zero "hi-yups" and fun in it.

Did seeing Cubby on the Mickey Mouse Club influence you to pick up the sticks?

At this point in Taylor's career he wasn't so often performing in settings where his outside had to fit inside. He was usually much more dictating the structure from his piano. Here, he is inserting his attack into an existing, fairly rigid structure. And he's killing it.

My daughter plays soccer. Endless soccer. For example, today she will attend two half-day soccer camps, then join an adult pick-up game at 7pm, after which she was planning to observe a game with her coach's team, but it turns out the team won't play tonight. But she was poised to do soccer 8:30am-10pm.

In a recent tournament game, she made a hat trick, one of which was a header.

Her toes are just fine, and there are no bumps on her head.

Heard the rest of the show on the archives. That Cecil Taylor/Redman/Elvin record is new to me. It strikes me that when Taylor plays with others not in his band, he doesn't really adapt to them; they have to meet him on his own terms.
