1969 was an eventful year for me. Wonder how I would be different if I had taken it easy.

Hi, WR! I was 5 going on 6 years old in 1969 since I was born in November. I remember thinking how awesome it was going to be for the decade to change into the 70s. LOL!

earliest year I recall thinking was special was 1961 because it could be rotated 180 degrees and read the same.

WPIX was on the cutting edge when I was in high school. They played The Clash, Joe Jackson, etc. We're talking 1979 or so.

Hello, Kat, Mark, Imaginos!

Krys O.:

WPIX TV was a great local NY station. They had old movies and classic TV shows.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:07pm
Krys O.:

So WPIX from 1978-1980 was almost a rival of WLIR in Long Island and WNYU, New York University's station.

"1978–1980: New wave music/punk rock. At a time when other rock stations in New York were sticking with traditional AOR formats (WPLJ, WNEW-FM), adult Top 40 (WXLO) and oldies (WCBS-FM), WPIX staked out a groundbreaking format focused on new wave and punk but included older rock and roll as well, hence its advertising slogan: "From Elvis to Elvis" (meaning Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello.) It helped break in New York and nationally early records by Costello, The Police, Nick Lowe, The Clash, The Cars, Squeeze, Devo, The Kings, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Buzzcocks, Cheap Trick, Talking Heads, David Johansen, Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd, among others. The station was even featured in lyrics from the Squeeze song, 'I Think I'm Go Go' (P I X and rock and roll).[14]"

Hello all! Prior to 1979, I only heard what few New York AM stations got into Chicago ... really only WNEW and WQXR. The other 50kw biggies were block by 50kw Chicago stations

I used to walk down 42nd Street to get from Port Authority to Grand Central to visit my parents when I was in college in NJ in the early 1980s; the height of the porn era and street corner preachers. Later Jenny Holzer took over and used the marquees of the abandoned theaters for her concrete poetry.
