They should have done one where he gets knocked out early on, and all the mobsters ignore his body on the floor for most of the episode.

Austin Rich:

While there isn't exactly any "closure" to the series, this last episode was written by the creator, George Lefferts, and having Rocky "move out" of his old apartment was as much "ending" as the show got. But most stations just repeated the series, over and over again, until they got tired of re-runs. But Sinatra was so popular, the show retained popularity on the radio for a while. It wasn't until radio dramas started to fade away that stations stopped running Rocky Fortune.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:13pm
Austin Rich:

On the 25th of March, 1954, "From Here To Eternity," won Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Sinatra, who had been on a small career downturn, was suddenly the most in-demand actor and singer around. This 30 March 1954 episode is not only the last one, but one that probably had the best listening audience of the entire series run, as fans were tuning in to hear him act on the radio. While Sinatra was done with radio acting, "Rocky Fortune" was the thing that was the most readily available while Sinatra was working on new movies.

I can't imagine a can with a person in it - even a person as famously "slight" as Sinatra - would be very easy to move.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
WR:

I'm late, how many times did Rocky gets his lights knocked out?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:30pm
Austin Rich:

I decided to bust out the "complete" version of the ending theme music for the "final" episode. The song is called, "I Remember Harlem" by Roy Eldridge, and as near as I can figure, the producers of the show just used the single version of that song for both the opening and closing theme music. It's a beautiful song, but never heard completely in the show. So... there it was!

He didn't get knocked out, but twice he was asked to get inside a garbage can.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:35pm
Austin Rich:

There's only three more "Bold Ventures" after this.

Some sources claim that there really were 78 episodes, and better still, there's a Kickstarter out to remaster all of them. (They claim to have transcription discs?) I don't know the status of the project, but if more Bold Venture episodes are ever released, I'll return to this series, for sure. Until then: I'm going to go with the theory that the "other" episodes were re-runs of stories we've heard, but with a different title.

Prove me wrong!

↳ Song: ""The Sea Serpent, Part 1"" by "The Blue Beetle"
With the modern superhero craze in movies, I find listening to these early superhero shows - in many ways, this one is trying to emulate Superman's show - to be fascinating. They are sort of fascist: cops, not happy to follow the law, take fighting criminals into their own hands. They always claim that they are doing it in the name of "the city" or "the people," but there is a very eerie element to them.

I see that "Junkyard" was written by Clifford D. Simak. I know him as the author of "Goodnight, Mr. James", which was adapted into "The Duplicate Man" (the only "The Outer Limits" episode that interests me besides the two that Harlan Ellison wrote).

It's pretty common for X-Minus 1 (and Dimension X) to put a pretty high value on being drunk, and there is a preponderance of stories where drinking is a virtue of some kind.
