I first heard of ABBA from a friend, who is still a friend. She wrote to me after they won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, an event I'd never heard of before. Her family had moved to Belgium, where she was attending an American school in Waterloo. Which made the song a very big deal for the kids.
