Ward Marston turns those old Edison records into gold. But I don't think he has handled the Spencer. One one installment of a collection of Edison recordings, Marston writes, "By 1909, the cylinder was a dying medium, and Edison realized that his company needed to compete in the disc market. Consequently, he strove to produce a better-sounding disc than any of his competitors. For nearly three years, he made disc recordings before publishing any. Over a hundred of these wax disc masters still exist in the Edison archive, unheard by anyone until now. These recordings contain not only some very fine singing, but also, some of the best sound to be heard on acoustic recording."

Walter Miller was a pseudonym for Stanley Kirkby. Kirkby and Hudson worked together for over 20 years, from the 19 teens to the 19 thirties. Kirkby at one point was recording weekly for multiple recording companies, with the recordings being issued under various names.

I started searching about this recording because I wondered if this was referencing the NYC Bowery or a UK Bowery. Didn't find out about that but did find that Albert Whelan had an extensive and long career.

Aspects of his stage demeanor make me wonder if he was an influence on the young Fred Astaire who was starting his career in NYC around the time Whelan made several successful USA tours. Pure speculation on my part.
