Here's what I do (I totally get it!) I write my kids an email. It's about nothing but about everything. I just tell them a bit about what's going on here, and then my opinion on something going on in the world (because there are so many dumb people, no shortage of those kids of humorous stories.) Then tell them I love them.
Sometimes they might answer me!

So, this is a true story... I have lots of Kiwi friends (well I used to, they've all left) anyhow, at Japanese schools, the have carnivals or festivals. So, since all my friends were Kiwis, I'd help their booth. So, I'm taking payments for lamb chops. and this guy walked up to me, kind of drunk, and he says something like, "What's yer pick on today game (in very garbled English)."
I answer, "What?"
he says, "You know what I mean. I have the Reeboks, (or maybe he said the Adidas, I wasn't sure, but I was sure he was talking about sports shoes." (unbeknownst to me, the NZ team was play the South Africa team (I don't know their names!) that day...."
That guy looked at me like I was brain damaged when I said, "Reeboks? Tennis shoes? What are you talking about?"
