This great LP was reissued by Cherry Red THIS July as a 10" double splatter vinyl LP set and a new gatefold cover (seen here) and 4 extra cuts!

BEATLES  BEING THERE!   Favoriting     I call this 10 minute montage of Beatles clips ALL from our recordings in Dodge City 60s that because WE WERE THERE!  Yeah, sometimes reception was iffy but the thrill outweighed the sound.  I get goose bumps everytime I hear these of listen to the full tapes.  So many memories. The excitement of recording all these songs when they were out on great stations was just so much fun!  In order of first appearing here (If I know what/who they were), you hear WLS Chicago, KOMA OKC, American Bandstand with Charlie O'Donnell filling in for Dickie Clark, WNOE New Orleans, WKYC Cleveland, WABC NYC, WSAI Cincy, and lastly, their 1964 Cleveland concert end broadcasting live on KYW (soon to be WKYC) Cleveland.  You'll hear these great DJs and more in order of first heard here: My hero Ron Riley, Bobby Davis, Robbie Rabbit, Cousin Brucie Morrow, Gene Taylor, Johnnie Stevens, Art Roberts, Dex Card, Larry Lujack, Big Jack Armstrong, Chuck Buell, Jim Runyon, Jerry G Bishop, Jim Stagg.

Pilot  Maniac (Come Back)   Favoriting UK EMI 779    One of my top 70's fave bands, we hear "Magic" all over TV commercials, but after only 2 US LPs, their next two were not issued in the US. All 4 of their LPs are well worth owning, IMO.  This particular LP was recorded in Canada and produced by Roy Thomas Baker of Queen fame. The song was also issued in a totally different styled version on a UK 45 (and his 1976 LP) as a solo by Pilot member and the songwriter, William Lyall.

The ONLY clip that has survived of me on my first radio station (48 years ago), University of Nebraska's KRNU, when I still had this dream of becoming a big time broadcaster.  It didn't happen but it sure was fun to fulfill the dream of being a Top 40 DJ and assuming that "career" died in 1976 when I quit NU as a broadcasting major.  We had a top 30 list and one hour we were to play odd numbered chart position songs and the next even numbered to avoid overplaying songs.  We could play 2 oldies per hour and play the ABC Contemporary News.  BIG TIME, haha!

Chiffons  Nobody Knows What's Goin' On (in my Mind but me)   Favoriting Laurie 3301  1965  That summer 1965 was an awesome one spent in Oklahoma City when I got to see Roger Miller & Gary Lewis concerts as a 9 year old!  Despite the girl group sound waning a bit, this group cut thru for another year of hits.  We made this reel to reel line recording from Shindig! on July 21, 1965 just after we returned to Dodge City.  A great and different sound from this cool group.  They sing live vocals over the crudely edited 45 underneath.

RON 'KING B' BRITAIN tribute!  The great WCFL Chicago nighttime DJ who was up against my other WLS hero Ron Riley nightly.  Ron used  drop in stuff better than anyone I ever knew and it became a staple for my radio shows.  He was always using humor and "loved" his self-named fans "TULUS" and "CHEEKY DUCKY FRIENDS".  He made fun of himself and his copy he read and it was nonstop fun.  Here, you get 3 of his commercials.  First the Cyrkle 7-Up jingle segment that BPN found later and issued in original form on Sundazed.  His computer programmer take and the rather dark commercial for Nutriment also--have you ever heard such an ad?  IF I had taken that, maybe I'd have gotten all the chicks??  hahaha

Savoy Brown  A Hard Way to Go   Favoriting Parrot 40046  1970  The new decade came in with this great stereo record great for a fairly new FM listener of KEYN-FM Wichita, Ks.

Slade  Look Wot You Dun   Favoriting Cotillion 44150  1972  Before many knew this awesome group here in the states, Slade was becoming hitmakers in their UK.  The funny spelling of song titles was unique and cool but this one caught my ear because I thought it was a new LENNON single!  Think back just over a year earlier to 'Remember" by John with his double tracked vocals and pounding piano.  Noddy captured it great here and it became their 2nd top 5 UK hit well before the US caught on.

New Colony Six  Muddy Feet (on the Mississippi)   Favoriting Rev-Ola 2007  1970  What? The BEST Grass Roots song they never recorded?  Well, NC6 did this in 70 and never released it until it found its' way onto a groovy NC6/Raymond James Michael comp in 2007.  Written by drummer Billy Herman of 60's Exception, Aorta and eventually NC6 Chicago bands!  MORE COWBELL!

Hawks  Spend This Evening   Favoriting Columbia 2086  1980  An Iowa connection for FF!  Kirk Kaufman was the genius behind this 80s band as well as 60's/70's Westminst'r and 90's Junior incarnations.  They had their own recording studio in Otho, Iowa and put out some great stuff for 4 decades from there!  Three Hawks LPs came from their 80s incarnation.  This was the unsweetened 1980 demo that helped get the band signed to Columbia a year later.  I like the Badfinger sound of it over the glossy 45 version.

U.S. Males  Open Up Your Heart   Favoriting Britania 101  1968  More Grass Roots sounds with LOTSA fuzz (cool B side written by 5 Americans also) and done on a 1 release only Abnak label!  Not only a great 2 sider but it looks so cool too on yellow vinyl DJ copies.  I begged Bob Irwin to issue this on CD when Sundazed acquired Abnak's tapes, but beggars cant be choosers.  haha.  I asked for lots of issues that Bob DID put out, so I am very happy!  Written by my late email friend, Artie Wayne.
