I'm not sure any Koobas CDs had been issued from tapes. Maybe Cherry Red can do that? They sold even more obscure stuff, so why not Koobas?

Javier, is the BGO disc not from tape? I don't have it, but I've never heard a disc from them (80s or beyond) that is a needledrop...!

I did but no one replied!! Shame!

So many independent record labels back then. I wonder how much money a would-be music mogul had to pull together to launch a label? I recall reading that Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss didn't have a lot of capital to finance the formation of A&M.

I enjoy them both for different aspects, though I think some of the best musical elements of the Manfreds' version are lost in the mix (particularly the stereo, a bit less so the mono). Some bootleg mixes from the multitrack stages do it better justice!
  6:40pm
Javier:

Are those bootleg mixes of Manfreds are from tapes?
Avatar 6:42pm
BritishInvasionBrinley:

Definitely so, Javier. They might be a generation (or few) down, but they sound quite good and provide lots of insight into how meticulously crafted their Fontana recordings were!

With no disrespect to other Liverpool groups, the Koobas were certainly one of the few groups from there to successfully (and within a timely manner) move on from beat music and evolve quickly... This is a great example of how they set themselves apart even that early!
