Yeah. I got conned into covering for the show after Dimestore. So I'm on for Four HOURS TONIGHT!

Plus: Mike Rogers is sort of a legend, and the chance to cover for him is pretty cool.

Rolling without Kreightoven tonight - but it's going to be cheeky!

So, Austin, any idea which Thursday would be best for the reading?

Heather will need to schedule that. This week is not good. Hopefully Heather is free soon? I'll try to re-activate that e-mail thread, where we were trying to pin that down.

Other DJs in the chat: seems like Back-Announcing seems to be going away, as most devices can tell us what songs are, and most streaming services tell us what things are as we listen. So: is Back-Announcing Old School? Or still relevant?

↳ Song: "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" by "Primus"
Damn! I'm getting 90's flashbacks. You would hear this song EVERYWHERE back in the day.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Barno in Akron @8:26
You don't hear people talk about it as much as they used to, and I think Primus' reputation has certainly shifted over the years. It seemed like a lot of people really accepted them as part of the 90's music scene. These days, their audience has sort of solidified into the more extreme weirdos out there, and their reputation is almost closer to that of Phish, or ICP.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Martin Scorsese" by "King Missile"
There is a very funny "radio friendly" version of this tune, where John does a different vocal take, that is entirely G Rated. (Daytime appropriate.) It's almost funnier, because it's very clear what words he's avoiding. Sort of like a TV edit of a movie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm
Barno in Akron:

↳ Austin Rich @8:29
Hahaha! I'll have to look for that version

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Barno in Akron @8:30
I realized that Jaws totally holds up for me, but at the same time, I realize why people aren't into it. It's very 70's, in a way I love, and in a way that others don't seem to like as much.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:38pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "My Girlfriend's Dead" by "The Vandals"
There is a baseline ridiculousness that The Vandals never seem to shake, no matter how many years it's been.
Avatar 8:41pm
ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova:

anyone here ever hear of the Sponge Awareness Foundation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:41pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Mongoloid" by "Drunk John Lennon"
Mark Mothersbaugh tells a story of a drunk John Lennon accosting him after a Devo show, where Lennon merely came up, started singing Devo Lyrics back at Mark, then wandered off.

taryninstereo:

This song is a fabulous attack on the ears.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:46pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Awesome Sound" by "Ween"
If you put this song on infinite loop, it's hard to notice where the songs starts and stops. You can listen for hours that way. (A lot of songs on The Pod are structured that way.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm
Barno in Akron:

↳ Austin Rich @8:46
It's amazing how their music evolved from this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:48pm
Austin Rich:

I sort of prefer those first three albums. Their later albums are more refined and they can play better... but I think the songs aren't as good. (I'm in a minority, I know.)
Avatar 8:49pm
ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova:

↳ Austin Rich @8:48
it's like artists who attend art school. The artist might improve their skill, but they lose some quality that makes them, for lack of a better word, them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:51pm
Austin Rich:

↳ ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova @8:49
Certainly, that is the danger. You can learn a lot from art school, and from classes in general. But I think if you start moving only in that direction, and forget why you wanted to make music in the first place, then I think the art suffers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Peek-A-Boo" by "Devo"
Probably among the best performers I've ever gotten to see. Their stage shows are fantastic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
Barno in Akron:

↳ Austin Rich @8:48
I prefer Ween's earlier stuff - but their later albums grew on me - it took a long time, but they grew on me
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Barno in Akron @8:54
I don't even have anything after White Pepper. I'm sure they're all great. But... there's so much to listen to, and I feel like I gave Ween a lot of years. Time for someone else to take that slot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:58pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: "Particle Man" by "They Might Be Giants"
I discovered the other day, listening to an interview, that William Shatner casually knows They Might Be Giants, and has a standing coffee date with one of "non-Johns."
