I read somewhere that a Russian sub had a reactor meltdown sometime in the 60s, and the captain asked for crew volunteers to shut it down. The volunteers did but died of radiation poisoning. Of course, no official acknowledgement of the disaster was made, but the heroism of these men was commemorated in numerous folk songs. Has anyone heard these?
