True story: I worked on a farm for a long time. Horses, goats, chickens, hay and manure. I did all sorts of terrible chores there. They did not listen to country music, which I thought would have made the work go faster.

That's fascinating, Austin! My parents grew up on farms. They had lovely gardens when they bought a house in their golden years. Even had a pet rooster named Elmo.

That's cool! I sort of liked the chickens and the goats. It was the horses that were very particular. They mostly raised livestock; the land wasn't great for crops, but there was a small garden.

Some of the buildings from the campus are still used by East Orange Board of Education, but the area where the dorms were is townhouse condos. The Avatar House, where WFMU moved from the basement in 1988 or so, is still there. It's a private residence now.

That's so funny - we were raised on opposite poles. My Mad-Men dad and Republican mom in our new shiny suburban house DID listen to country. They loved this era. We had lots of Johnny Cash records - they even got to meet him backstage at a concert once.

I used to have to call alumni to ask for donations. I was an honors student on a bunch of scholarships and grants. The phone work was expected of me. Wonder if I called him.

My grandfather used to work at these very rural cabins, that they would rent to anyone who wanted to stay in them. My grandfather would take them hiking, teach them to fish, and then how to cook it all. And when they would leave, he always thought it was funny they paid to learn how he lived, year round.

She's mellowed on politics but she def noticed it at the time. Was not happy about one of the reason JC wore black was for the prisoners. And the plea for understanding hippies "What Is Truth" was def not a favorite.

Interesting. She would have been perplexed by Earl Scruggs of Flatt & Scruggs. Earl was outwardly old school, but he was a hippy inside. He loved playing with all kinds of musicians for all different audiences.
