He is known for his precise musical time keeping and his signature use of triplets against a half-time backbeat: the "Purdie Shuffle." He was inducted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame in 2013. '

Boy, am I in the weeds. I've barely got out the Happily Addled, and already… Hey, how's about a Spicy Macguffin* instead?

* Spicy Macguffin

Even in the happiest of places, sometimes tragedy strikes. That's what befell Stork Club patron and small-time debt advisor Jimmy Macguffin one Sunday evening, not long after he'd delivered a gentle reminder to notorious confidence man -- excuse me, speculative entrepreneur! -- Richard Delano Witherspoon III that he settle his debts. Witherspoon took his knocks manfully, but what he could not stand was that, while imparting his message, Macguffin called him by the name of his birth, Hyman Moskowitz. They had grown up across the courtyard from one another, and it was an honest mistake based on decades of shared history, but some things you do not say to a guy. Macguffin had settled down to his first Happily Addled (Glen Passaic, naphtha, shaken over dry ice, up with a twist) of the evening when in walked Witherspoon, slanted like the meanest forward slash ever to end a URL while brandishing his checkbook and pen. "Richard," he said, "I am delighted that you have decided to square your accounts, but I am afraid that we are now on a cash-only basis. If you would--" But Witherspoon did not allow him to continue, instead sinking his fountain pen six times into Macguffin's chest. "You can keep the pen," he added, as he stormed out. Macguffin's big hands clattered over the bar, seeking something to stanch the flow, and fell upon a jar of pickled jalapeño peppers (what they were doing there is a story for another time). These he fitted into the holes into his chest, finished his cocktail, emitted a belch, wheezed the words, "You know fellas, it ain't bad spicy," and slid from his barstool to expire upon the floor. In his honor the drink is named.

Spicy Macguffin
2oz Glen Passaic
1oz naphtha
1oz fresh blood
1 pickled jalapeño
dry ice

Shake Glen Passaic, naphtha and fresh blood over dry ice, strain into a tempered glass coupe, and garnish with the pickled jalapeño.

Didn’t realize I was hearing him on those records.
But certainly never knew to find any of the albums.
Seems to me he was one of the heavily sampled drummers / albums for the worlds of hip hop and beyond !
