A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

I've done these before. We get as many as we can, and just record a place-holder, so we have something to edit to.

Gaythiest are one of my fave Portland bands. Had them on my show once, and they were always very nice to me. Their crowds were full of all sorts of excellent queer metal dudes... just perfect!

I never really got past the allure of Bourbon. It's quite tasty! Rum is okay too, but I just never got the tongue for it. But I'm always game to try a little something interesting.

Rum is definitely not my go to! Maybe the early days of rum n coke spoiled it for me? I have no head for coke. Omg, the soda!! Calm down, everyone!!

It is interesting that The Frontier Gentleman always seems to wander across the most historic and well known events in Old West history. This event takes place during the same period that Custer's Last Stand takes place. (He was supposed to go and cover it for the paper, and missed the boat.) Somehow, he always has a connection to the most historic moments.

This whole "Indian Stand-off" story is certainly awkward to hear now. The show wants you to think that the white people are the victims, but we know that is not the case in reality. Hopefully this isn't offensive to anyone. This show, as a Western, has some pretty awful elements to it.

I'm definitely a person who goes more for bitter. One time, though, I made a hot holiday punch based on, like, a Dickens recipe. The stuff smelled like it would remove paint but tasted delicious! Very lemony and botanical.
