I'm sure it's been mentioned by someone (likely Stork), but JJJ is credited with bringing the trobone to the modern jazz/bebop era, not just in style, but technically. Getting those flurries of notes that Diz and Bird unleashed on a trobmone, with it's somewhat cumbersome slide, was not something that players were able to manage until JJJ worked it out. It became the template for trombonists afterwards.

The Wee Dot* is much more than that. It is…

Wee Dot (aka Slide Oil)

3oz London dry gin
0oz dry vermouth
8oz lemonade
2oz Glen Passaic

This, a classic of the Stork Club Sober January mocktail menu, is actually several drinks in one, and is generally made in sequence. First, without even glancing at the vermouth, stir the gin over ice, strain into a coupe, and garnish with a twist, for a severely dry martini a la Dorothy Parker (or two, at the most). Then, remind one's self that this is Sober January, no monkeying around, and a lemonade as plain as might be enjoyed by that other Dorothy in Kansas is what's wanted. Pour same, and sulk lightly. Finally, with a gesture like a trombonist bending a note, hook that shot of Glen Passaic that's been set down before the adjacent patron, and down it before anybody sees. Do this two or three times, and you'll no longer care who composed what.
