	3:55pm Funky16Corners: In retrospect I find it weird that he wasn't a bigger deal. Was he too retro for the mainstream, but not retro/faithfu enough for the alternative crowd(s)? He was a great songwriter and the sound of the albums managed to be of its time while still containing echoes of all the old things he loved, i.e. rockabilly, country, 60s pop etc

	4:04pm spodiodi: also reminds me that i was just learned about Broken Heart Syndrome (was linked from a story about the husband of one of the teachers that were killed in the recent shooting in TX).
	4:05pm Funky16Corners: When I saw him, this has already been out a few years, but the David Lynch connection and that video had propelled it into the stratosphere. My brother and I went to see him in Red Bank, NJ and it was wild. I've never seen female concertgoers act like that outside of newsreel footage of the Beatles.

	4:16pm Funky16Corners: I read an oral history of MTV a while back (not a great book overall) but one of the most interesting parts was how the record companies reacted to the video boom, which was to invest insane amounts of money in rock videos, the vast majority of which are lost to the ages.

He was a great songwriter and the sound of the albums managed to be of its time while still containing echoes of all the old things he loved, i.e. rockabilly, country, 60s pop etc

My brother and I went to see him in Red Bank, NJ and it was wild. I've never seen female concertgoers act like that outside of newsreel footage of the Beatles.
