Mornin', Bob!' Always happy to hear some Gentle Giant, but even more gratified for your choice of Family, a vastly underrated British band from the "prog" era. They got a lot of attention from their first album(produced by Dave Mason), but they didn't seem to click much with American radio DJs after that. Didn't stop me. I gobbled up anything they put out.

Henry, the Human Fly, very underplayed album of his (I especially like his all guitar Rockin' In Rhythm on it).

Brownie!!! Helen!!!, great combo!

@doctorjazz. I remember the reviews of Richard Thompson's first solo album away from Fairport. Not good, they said. But most of the complaints centered around his singing. Give me a break! He's a monster guitarist! Not too many in his class.

One of the best debut albums ever, that first Steely Dan!

@Gerry from Miami-I think they were reacting to not hearing Linda (which was indeed some loss). I've seen Thompson recently (in November, just before the current Omicron outbreak sidelined me again), and he's actually become quite a terrific singer, imo! Not so much the tonality of his voice (which is what those critics likely react to),but his control, pitch, choices are just great!

Gerry from Miami:

Thanks, doctorjazz! I have a friend who has seen Thompson play live several times and says the same thing you did.

wmfromD. Yes, Mike Ratledge, his bandmate in Soft Machine. But I was wondering if any keyboard freaks knew exactly what instruments he was using back in the "pre-digital" age.

Gerry, I think Ratledge used a fuzz box and high volume for a Hammond organ. A guess.

BOB, Earth Opera were oneof my "secret" guilty pleasures back in the late 60s, early 70s. None of my friends had ever heard of them. Same for the Incredible String Band.

Gerry from Miami:

@TDK60. Yes, I think you are right. Not all that sophisticated or fancy. His main axe in Soft Machine was definitely the Hammond.

It has always been a mystery to me why the Easybeats never hit it big in the US after the smashing success of "Friday on My Mind."
