David (in London):

Mary / rw - In the 1970s, there was a famous sit-com here in the UK called 'Are you being served?', which focused on the behind the scenes goings-on at a famous department store in Piccadilly. One of the characters was (what was then called) a 'lady of a certain age', Mrs Slocombe, who ran the Ladies Department. She had a cat called Tiddles, and it was thus an endless stream of double entrendres about "Oh my poor pussy" etc, which was either hilarious or excruciating (or both) depending on your point of view. My dad absolutely hated it.

Famous theme tune, too, weirdly covered by Coil.

That flute cover isn't working. Try a larger, thicker cover.

If it's pouring down with rain, Blixa is probably to found in the kitchen making his famed squid ink risotto:

I thought Annapolis was due east of DC but it seems that’s the illusion induced by Route 50 (a.k.a. Secret Unsigned I-595, no kidding, look it up) being marked E-W. Highways should be able to go ENE/WSW and such.

Thunder was roaring as I came up out of the subway, and the skies opened up as I came the three blocks home. Glad it happened at this end of the ride rather than the fifteen blocks I had to walk at the other.

Oh, nice, Phillippe! I think there was a flock of brandts on the creek a few days back, but they were pretty far away. There were also some obvious Canada geese, though, and these others looked very brandty in comparison. Fun time of year here, birdwise!

fred - thanks. Having read Alasdair Gray's Lanark and now on This Is Memorial Device by David Keenan, I'm wary of stuff out of Lanarkshire. It's a very weird place.

The worst song in the history of the world is called "This Garden" BTW. It's by The Levellers. Any song worse than it starts reaching into "so bad it's good" territory. It's just the awfulest.
