Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59am listener james from westwood:

Good Thursday, Julie and all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00pm Julie:

hey there James!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Handy Haversack:

Nothing like a black background moved outside to show you how dirty your laptop screen is!

Hi, Julie! Hello, all the ensouled soul siblings!

Listening while working out back, on a 50' ethernet cable -- with "my" birds in the background. The feeders are filled, and the sun is shining!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm ParUbi:

Hey there, Julie & everyone
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Julie:

Hi Handy! Hi ParUbi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Julie:

it's HARD to see the laptop screen outside
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:03pm Handy Haversack:

It is hard. But it's worth it. This window when it's nice enough to be outside but before the Mosquito Hordes awaken is small and precious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm listener james from westwood:

Whoa, they went for the Sheryl Crow theme over this for GoldenEye?!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I'm pretty sure I heard the South American giant vampire mosquitoes are due to arrive in July.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Julie:

oh boy, Ken! Can't wait!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:07pm Handy Haversack:

Hmmm. Sounds like we're gonna need more garlic, Ken!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Handy Haversack:

Whoa. Now THIS is new to me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08pm Julie:

wouldn't the theme to Goldeneye be Goldeneye? This was Tomorrow Never Dies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm listener james from westwood:

Getting my mid-90s Bonds screwed up! But I wasn't a Brosnan fan, so.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:10pm Handy Haversack:

The dog does not know why I just called him Leonard Bernstein.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Julie:

But yeah they chose the Crow version. Like they chose the (great IMHO) Sheena version instead of Blondie for For Your Eyes Only
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm Irene Trudel:

Hi Julie! Yes, definitely the end of the world as we know it! Especially since my workplace exec said today that most of us probably won't be asked to go back to the offices until after Labor Day. Great version of this so, BTW.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:11pm spodiodi:

hi Julie! hi dark souls!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:12pm Julie:

Hi Irene! Hiya Spodi. Ugh, Irene, better safe than sorry though.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm spodiodi:

this song is "ok", but i can sing it *much* faster! ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm spodiodi:

(lots of practice)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Handy Haversack:

While pogoing, @spodiodi!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm spodiodi:

and sweating, Handy. lots of sweating
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:16pm Handy Haversack:

We have similar skill sets.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:17pm Irene Trudel:

Totally agreed, Julie. At least they have us do regular Zoom staff meetings so we get to see everyone. That's probably what I miss the most.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:18pm Julie:

we should have a drummer zoom meeting
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm listener james from westwood:

Give the Zoomer Some
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, that would be fun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:19pm Julie:

yeah since we didn't have our usual marathon-time gathering
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:20pm Handy Haversack:

Same here, Irene -- I wasn't expecting to miss my colleagues as much as I did. But I end up valuing our weekly catch-ups. (Though they do make me miss the last hour of Ken's show.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:21pm listener james from westwood:

Dig this ethereal sound here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:22pm Irene Trudel:

@Handy, I miss being able to turn my chair around and ask some technical question of my engineering colleagues and have five other people chime in to solve a problem. We don't often think of the little interactions-- even just smiling at someone you pass in the hallway is nice.
Avatar 12:23pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Hey everyone! Wow, Grouper. 2018 was a year of losses (not that many but still) and this was fitting music, her Helsinki performance in Temppeliaukio church that year was rather atmospheric.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:23pm Julie:

hiya Cha Cha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:24pm Handy Haversack:

Complete agreement, Irene.

Julie, where did that Unwoman R.E.M. cover come from? I don't see it (or have yet to find it) on her Bandcamp page.

Hey, Cha Cha!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Hey there!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, I was hearing a noise outside my window and saw a Good Humor store delivery truck unloading. Guess that'll be another thing that will go missing as summer approaches. So sorry I'm sounding like Debbie Downer right now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:25pm Julie:

@Handy it's a subscriber's only thing
Avatar 12:25pm Hubig Pie:

Happy B-day Phillipe
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Julie:

hiya Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Irene Trudel:

Hey, Happy b-day Phillippe!
Avatar 12:26pm Hubig Pie:

You and Gabby Hayes.
Yer darn tootin !
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:26pm Julie:

happy birthday Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Handy Haversack:

Ah, yeah, that's the realization I was coming to, Julie. Thanks.

Irene: Mister Softee has begun its colonization of our block already!

Happy birthday, Phillippe!
Avatar 12:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Happy birthday Phillippe!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:27pm Irene Trudel:

Ooh, I thought Mister Softee would be a no-no!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:28pm doctorjazz:

Goo folks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:29pm Handy Haversack:

I would have thought so, too, Irene -- but unmasked kids came a-running, even on a 50F day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:30pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Hubig www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:35pm Julie:

hiya dr jazz!
Avatar 12:36pm Hubig Pie:

Mr. Hayes was the bard of frontier gibberish
Avatar 12:38pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Ha, I never knew this existed - then again, I am not exactly a fan of Boney M or Neil Young. I often find myself surprised that I have even seen a gig from the latter, maybe it was for the sake of common knowledge?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:40pm Michael 98145:

Hello again, Julie. Hope you are well.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Julie:

hi there Michael! I'm hanging in there, how bout you?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:41pm Michael 98145:

still here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Julie:

sometimes just waking up in the morning is the best one can do, and that's okay too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Michael 98145:

uh oh. stream went down. maybe crows on the wire. the xfinity experience.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:45pm Michael 98145:

i -have- been sleeping more
Avatar 12:45pm northguineahills:

waking up in the morning would be much easier if I could fall asleep in the first place....
Avatar 12:46pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I can't remember the last time I had woken up in the morning. My mornings are of the post meridiem variety. Also, i am not exactly the sort of person who copes well with loss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:46pm Julie:

oh no it's working here. @NGH yeah except today I pretty much wake up in the afternoon these days
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Michael 98145:

i think it was my vpn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Julie:

it doesn't matter when you wake up as long as you do.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:47pm Michael 98145:

good point
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Julie:

informal poll, should I put pictures on the playlist or no?
Avatar 12:48pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

yes!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Julie:

I don't have all the cool covers and 45 sleeves like Sheila but I wonder if I should add some artist visuals
Avatar 12:50pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

bring it on please
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Handy Haversack:

Keilidh recently added pix, and it is nice to see the covers -- though one has to more actively scroll to make sure one knows what's playing.
Avatar 12:51pm Hubig Pie:

Music with pictures is like pancakes with syrup, a burger with cheese, a kiss with a squeeze
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Julie:

okay I will!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:55pm spodiodi:

Julie, yes, please
Avatar 12:58pm northguineahills:

si, Julie, por favor...!
  12:58pm Mr Nobody:

Damn. I just woke up...again. Looks like I dozed off at my computer working. I see I missed some good stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Michael 98145:

oh. this is fun

:)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Handy Haversack:

Lo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:04pm Julie:

do you have keymarks on your face, Mr Nobody?
  1:05pm Mr Nobody:

Hell I think there may be keys stuck to my face still.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:06pm spodiodi:

keyface!
Avatar 1:06pm northguineahills:

are the green children green seers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm spodiodi:

i remember Eve's Plum (didn't know about Vitamin C connection)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:08pm spodiodi:

i think i've seen them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm brainiac:

Who wants to fight me about the Lizard People?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:10pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:11pm Handy Haversack:

I just want to yell at yuppies without masks who are thronging our neighborhood. Kate encourages me not to yell. There's a lot of muttering going on!
Avatar 1:12pm northguineahills:

my whole family are GOPers. My nieces are still in pre-K. My father is a retired physician, so he uses a facemask, but he believes we need herd immunity, and the economy is too important to sacrifice. And he's in the the demographic most vulnerable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:12pm spodiodi:

i hope Mr. T makes it through this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:14pm Michael 98145:

"pity the fools"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Handy Haversack:

The sparrows are really digging this set! I think it's making them amorous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:16pm Julie:

not even just the GOP, it's lefty friends sharing this garbage
Avatar 1:16pm northguineahills:

I can't wait to get back to Orlando (where sanity prevails). Jacksonville is pants-on-head stupid. Besides 'tailgating' in parking lots (cops break them up), I saw a bumper sticker the other day that said, "Trump 2020, Keep America Trump" It said Trump twice, they must really love Trump.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:17pm Handy Haversack:

Thanatophilic, @brainiac. That is the problem.
Avatar 1:18pm northguineahills:

The craziest leftiest friends might dabble in astrology, or might be hard-core anarchists, but that's harmless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Julie:

pants on head stupid, that's funny. @Ngh you left out the antivaxxers
Avatar 1:20pm northguineahills:

antivaxxers can be leftist or rightist. I had one roommate over a decade ago that was one. But, it was rather muted and went along w/ his "distrust of authority" atitude.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm brainiac:

@Handy: I just bought a coffee cup emblazoned with that legend. It’s ironic in that I spent more money on it than any other cup I’ve paid for. But the entity that sold it to me specializes in anticapitalist messages, so I thought of it as more of a non-deductible contribution than a straight purchase. Check out the design: i.etsystatic.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm brainiac:

@northguineahills: I'm gonna bet that pants-on-head stupid is the funniest thing I'll read all day. Don't hate me if I steal it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Handy Haversack:

Ha, very nice, brainiac. Reminds me of a mug a friend of mine (now in the UK) has: a picture of the queen with the legend "I EAT SWANS."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Anti-vax = Pro-disease
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm spodiodi:

that's a great mug, brainiac
Avatar 1:27pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I don't have a mask but then again I have not been out there save for two visits to the local health care center and those were rather paranoid walks I will tell you that, as I was jumping from one side of the street to the other to keep a maximum distance.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:28pm Julie:

my dad's wife (a doctor) = I love vaccines. I will take any/all vaccines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:29pm Handy Haversack:

Just watched a cardinal chase a catbird out of the catbird's seat!

It's actually quite cold out here in the shade!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm Julie:

those cardinals can be tough little guys
Avatar 1:30pm northguineahills:

@braniac: It's yours, I just paraphrased from something a friend said years ago....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:30pm spodiodi:

Cha Cha - i hear you, and often end up walking in the street to avoid people on the sidewalk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm spodiodi:

"often" meaning the few times i've had to go out :^B
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm Julie:

I won't leave my apartment without a mask now. Annoying as hell but I think it's important.
Avatar 1:33pm northguineahills:

Thankfully, I live in a not so densely populated area, so I take hikes and bike rides w/o a mask, but if I go into a store, I put one on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm brainiac:

@northguineahills: Danke, kamerad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

When I put my mask on I start to feel like I'm covering a deformity on my face
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:35pm Julie:

Like "Oh I can't go out with THOSE things showing"
Avatar 1:35pm Hubig Pie:

That was a lovely cover
Avatar 1:35pm northguineahills:

oh, and Tremosphere's cover is spectacular!

ty velom, tavcarishch, braniac
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm doctorjazz:

I've been reading that anti-vax folks are out there with anti shut down/reopen the economy folks protesting and enlisting them (the common thread being individual choices to make decisions, regardless of how they affect others). I thought at first this would weaken the anti-vax movement, but now I'm not so sure.
Avatar 1:36pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@1:31 Julie: I am not 100% sure, but I assume that while they are available already for the consumer already, they are not that widely available yet here, like not stocked where I would go shopping here in the sticks.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Handy Haversack:

Kate even goes running with a mask -- well, with four of them, and changes them as they get soaked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm Julie:

not medical masks, cloth ones. and I have some with a pocket for a filter. I also have the thin surgical ones which protect others (not myself). Even a bandanna is better than nothing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Julie:

Yeah my friend Rob said "I'm 30lbs overweight, I went running in 90 degree heat in a mask, I don't wanna hear your excuses"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Andrew Waterloo:

@doctorjazz the anti-vaxxers will latch on to Sweden and whatever information suits their narrative.
Avatar 1:41pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@1:37 Julie: of course, i did mean exactly the cloth masks and not the surgical ones. It is so uncommon here as of yet to wear one for a walk with the dog as it were.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:42pm Handy Haversack:

Kate made a bunch out of my old undershirts and some elastic she had kicking around for a student mask-making project.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:44pm doctorjazz:

I'll wear one of I'm out walking the dog, shopping, most activities (a regular mask, not the ultra filtering kind). I go out biking, don't wear one for that (for the life of me I can't see how that could be a way to transmit the virus).
Avatar 1:45pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I do not know what to think about that paper (swedish?) that asserted lockdowns etc. are futile - that they'll just postpone the deaths, the ones that can happen will happen, and that the only benefit from lockdowns is for the health services to prepare themselves. APOLOGIES for any part of what I might just have misquoted.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:45pm Andrew Waterloo:

@doctorjazz when you're cycling you're breathing out heavily
Avatar 1:46pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@1:44 doctorjazz: when cycling, the safe distance to another cyclist would apparently be something like 20 meters? The faster the speed the longer the distance of course.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:47pm Rich in Washington:

I've taken to using a simple bandana because I like the post-apocalyptic cosplay vibe it provides, especially when I'm wearing my sunglasses. I look like someone you'd hire to guide you across the wasteland, even though you don't trust them.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm brainiac:

X Æ A-12 translates to: I'm a rich kid, please beat me up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Handy Haversack:

Apparently I don't own a single bandana! And you know what closed down six weeks ago? The bandana store!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Andrew Waterloo:

It translates to nickname pending
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Andrew Waterloo:

@Handy a lot of local artisans around here have been making masks.

I bought bandanas with dancing skeletons and cavorting robots in February
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Irene Trudel:

Yes, doctorjazz, you should wear a mask biking to avoid spreading germs as you ride. Here's an excellent article on the subject. www.nj.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Handy Haversack:

OK, I get all my news from the accus and had no idea what all this talk about Elon Musk was about AT ALL -- apparently because I did not know that Grimes is -- sorry, Julie, WAS -- a person and not just a Simpson's one-off character!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Irene Trudel:

I wear a mask pretty much everywhere I go when outside. Better safe than sorry.
  1:52pm Homer Simpson:

How ya doin', Grimey?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm spodiodi:

old grimey
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm Irene Trudel:

Hey Julie! I also had Lisa Germano on my show in 2006. If I can find the tape I will send you the files: wfmu.org...

Avatar 1:54pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

I am not too happy about Finnish schools opening again in a week. Also, club gigs etc. already announced for July... a little early? Social gatherings of up to 50 people permitted from June onwards and on the other hand those with 500 people or more are not, at least until the end of July.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Julie:

@Irene OMG yes please!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm Irene Trudel:

@Julie, please remind me if I don't send them in the next few days.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:56pm spodiodi:

i now have to stop what i'm doing to research this nightmare of a racket
Avatar 1:56pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

oh, you kids with zooms. i would not have known what you are talking about had Julie not told me a few shows ago.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm Handy Haversack:

If you can get away with it, try using whereby.com -- solid privacy policy -- even Mark Hurst recommended.

Jitsi is good, too, but I find it degrades quickly with more than two people on a call -- though that could be a local problem with my set-up for all I know.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm spodiodi:

or move out. i'm tired of trying to convince people they need to be more careful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:57pm spodiodi:

Prince makes it all better

A NY Times article on masks and outdoor exercise

www.nytimes.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm doctorjazz:

I may start to use one when biking, but mostly for "social" reasons (so people don't get pissed off set me), the real risk seems minimal to non- existent.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Stanley:

This is such a good album. I thought so at the time then EJ fell so much out of favour with me. So happy you play it, Julie.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:02pm Stanley:

Oh and hello there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Julie:

tap dance break, y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Julie:

hi Stanley!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm Handy Haversack:

Hiya, Stanley.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:04pm Stanley:

Handy. great to see you. You seem to always be in good spirits.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm Michael 98145:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Michael 98145:

"Magical"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm Handy Haversack:

Sorry, brainiac, I didn't hear you. I was lost in his eyes ...

Stanley, well, you know. I try, I guess. This has been a decent week. Some safe time outdoors -- the supply runs pretty low stress. And FMU helps tremendously to keep the spirits at least staggering onward if not fully up!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Michael 98145:

Whoa. We are going global today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

I've found wearing a mask totally undermines my anti-social behavior. People look at the crinkles around my eyes and assume I'm smiling when in fact, I am grimacing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm brainiac:

I only now suddenly realized "global pandemic" is redundant. Thanks, Michael
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:19pm Julie:

I smiled at a cute guy (in a mask) the other day in the lobby with his dog, then realized he probably had no idea.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:20pm Handy Haversack:

Draw bloody fangs on the outside, Phillippe!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Julie:

He's probably sleeping because he was working all night, would be my guess
  2:30pm Mr Nobody:

Stayed up late doing work and then had to be up early again for conference calls. Was up until close to midnight then I get up 5:30-6 to work some more. Conference calls every day at 7 which I nodded off a few times during.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:30pm brainiac:

Hats off to Roy Harper
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm Julie:

Damn Mr. N you're only human
  2:31pm Mr Nobody:

If I nap or nod off during the day I am either sick or completely exhausted. If the sun is out I am up. I have always been that way.
Avatar 2:32pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

well i just meant my insomnia and how it gets worse when I try and fix the hours of sleeping to a more normal schedule, like shuteye from midnight ->. Then I find I have been awake for 30+ hours and after finally falling asleep wake up a few hours later. I certainly do not envy your work load Mr Nobody, kudos to you.
Avatar 2:33pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

@2:31 Mr Nobody: If the sun is out I am out of it in the bed
  2:33pm Mr Nobody:

We are at our close period for the month. I can't take off the first 7 business days every month. Really a bit of a pain when it comes to travel and plans.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:38pm Julie:

  2:39pm Mr Nobody:

That was my college MO. Stay awake for a day or two then crash for 4 hours. I could go about a 10 days like that before needing a day to crash. Had it almost down to a science. After that good snooze I was right as rain.
  2:40pm Mr Nobody:

And a +1 from me for another great show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:40pm spodiodi:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm spodiodi:

Wm Berger turned me onto them
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Julie:

not yet, but I will listen to the archive.
  2:47pm Mr Nobody:

@Spodiodi *sigh* I enjoy all the nice things about big cities except the people. I would be quite happy living well out in the country. Where the closest neighbor is a mile or two away. I have often envied my grandparents who lived that life when they retired. It was so peaceful.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Julie:

awww Berger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm Handy Haversack:

@spod: Yeah, efd was great last night.
Avatar 2:49pm Photocopy Cha Cha:

Should I finally start getting used to The Stranglers? I heard this one, No More Heroes and Always The Sun as a kid, loved all three and during these 32 years have not investigated further.
  2:50pm Mr Nobody:

Golden Brown.....nice. Mrs Nobody went on a Stranglers kick when I introduced her to this song.
