Hi Marry. Should have said that earlier too.

He was 73 and it was cancer so hey… Sad but a solid life.
  12:27pm JakeGould:

@Handy: Well the sad reality of a lot of artists WFMU keeps the flame lit for is they are older and they will pass away regardless of global pandemic or not. Still sad.

I guess the robot Florian can still tour, though. When I saw them live, I could *not* believe the cheer that went up from the crowd when the robots came out to perform a song. I thought "these guys have it made; the robots will tour for them eventually."

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:52pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy tell Kate you are rarin' to go for exercise. Test her commitment to that nap.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm Handy Haversack:

Ha! We collectively today said screw exercise, let's eat eggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Phillippe Bastille:

Yeah, that slow slide into ennui seems to be picking up pace everywhere. I'm feeling the least motivated since this whole thing started. Even the kingfisher seems to be disinterested in pooping on my fishing chair.
Avatar 1:03pm Bas NL:

Ahhh.. the bells! The bells!! Hi Mary & all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Handy Haversack:

We have to get the energy up for a supply run ... stores are depleted.
Avatar 1:05pm Mary Wing:

Hi Bas! The church bells know it's time for whatever!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm Phillippe Bastille:

I hear ya. Carbs around here seem to vaporize. Bought a dozen donuts Sunday morning and they were gone by dinner. Shelf life of a freshly-baked cake is 18 hours. Only the dirty plates serve as a reminder of their existence. Thank goodness my sons don't know how to clean up after themselves, otherwise it would like baked goods never existed
Avatar 1:10pm Mary Wing:

Donuts... cake... I'm dying for pastry over here!
Avatar 1:10pm david w:

Hello, Mary and all! (re-heated burrito)
Avatar 1:12pm Mary Wing:

Hello david!
I'm also dying for some Chinese food, never thought I would be denied that particular cuisine in this lifetime.
Avatar 1:13pm Bas NL:

I had yesterday's leftovers. But i'd made a great masala chicken and pineapple dish, which tasted even better today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Mary my birthday is tomorrow so we will likely have a 3-day supply of carbs, so your window to stop on by for something good is pretty big. I'd count on cake and ice cream but no dounts, however.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:15pm Handy Haversack:

We stocked up on pet food the other day, but I'm not THAT hungry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Handy we pretty much now have a lifetime supply on dog food. Our lab we put down on Saturday would go through a 40 pound bag in three weeks himself, and we had a couple bags stocked up. Now we have about 100 pounds of dog food for a beagle mix and 2 chihuahua mixes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:21pm Ike:

Hi all! @Mary, some of the Chinese places in my neighborhood have reopened (takeout only of course)! Though none of my faves, unfortunately.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:22pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Bas those flavors definitely get better overnight
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:23pm Phillippe Bastille:

speaking of which, I just realized it's almost 1:30 and I haven't eaten anything yet today. Anyone need anything while I'm up?
Avatar 1:24pm Hubig Pie:

On today's menu:
cheese and crackers
a long bike ride
cuz today's me birthday
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ah, the Annie Hall quote!
Avatar 1:25pm Bas NL:

@Philippe I used to do Indonesian dishes... Stock up the refrigerator; enough for a week. And indeed; gets better all the time! The magic of the far East cuisine!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:25pm Phillippe Bastille:

Happy Birthday Hubig Pie!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Bas definitely
  1:26pm JakeGould:

None of the Chinese restaurants near me (in Bay Ridge) are open again. A few laundromats have reopened with restricted hours and no drop off; do your own laundry, fold and leave.

The thing is there is definitely anti-Asian backlash that exists. And nobody wants to deal with that. Also, if your business has a special deal with the landlord — like you yourself own the building or they are nice and not charging rent for your storefront while closed — there is no reason to rush things.

Honestly, nobody is going to get the volume back to normal any time soon. And restaurants are all about volume.
Avatar 1:26pm Bas NL:

Congratulations Hubig Pie!
Avatar 1:30pm Bas NL:

Hang in there.. Here in Europe things are already lightening. Hairdressers open coming Monday in NL. =:)~

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Phillippe Bastille:

Thanks spodiodi. He indeed had a good set of lives, even more than a cat. He was deathly ill when we rescued him as a puppy and his first cancer diagnosis was almost 7 years ago. He made it to 13 1/2, which is pretty respectable for a lab. He was too easygoing to let it bother him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

Thank you Handy and NGH and spodiodi again!
Swag For Life Member 1:39pm spodiodi:

right, on Phillippe! sounds like he found the right people :)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm Phillippe Bastille:

Ironically, I read a joke Saturday morning along the lines of "I went to a psychic and she told me in 12 years I would experience gut-wrenching heartache. So I bought a puppy to make me feel better."

Avatar 2:37pm Sem:

@kevinfromBayRidge: I distinctly recall $6 a dozen for lobster, but somewhat farther back in time. I might have been in utero, in fact.
Avatar 2:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Hubig Pie, don't make no never mind when your heap is a Land Cruiser and the little Miss wants to go camping.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Hubig I share mine with Gabby Hays, the anti-Welles

Hey Mary,

I was just listening to an archive of your '18 show with a Kraftwerk set - and then remembered you're actually on the actual air right now, actually! Duh! Hee hee!
Avatar 2:46pm Bas NL:

Wow. Nice this by Clara Engel.
Avatar 2:46pm Mary Wing:

Hiya Stork! And now Florian's dead. :-(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:46pm Handy Haversack:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Stanley:

Can I have Les Fruits de Mer, too?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm Phillippe Bastille:

@Hubig Oooh, I also share with Gary Cooper, a clear upgrade over Gabby Hays! (Side note: Cooper was dead by 60. - I thought he was one of those guys around forever)
Avatar 2:47pm Stork:

Yeah, it was Rich who tipped us to the archive - so I went there on this sad day.
Avatar 2:48pm Sem:

I'll email you a kilo, Stanley.

Jumping in here late but loving the show, as ever, Mary, and looking forward to hearing it from the top on the archive!

Baby Alligators are adorable when you see them in the wild, until you realize the mother gator is going to be nearby and you better run away from the water...

Memories of soft shelled crabs and an excellent white devoured on the banks of the Chesapeake.

"As Gabby, he appeared in more than 40 films between 1939 and 1946, usually with Roy Rogers (44 times), but also with Gene Autry (7) and Wild Bill Elliott (14), often working under the directorship of Joseph Kane (34).

Hayes was also repeatedly cast as a sidekick of the Western stars Randolph Scott (six times) and John Wayne (15 times, some as straight or villainous characters)." via wikithingy

Hello S&M&S! Better late than whenever?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I found a little baby turtle in the yard Sunday. For a moment, I thought about keeping it, at least for a while, then decided to bring it to the creek. Figured out later it was a snapping turtle. Yowza!
Thanks, Mary and have a happy whatever.
Avatar 2:54pm Bas NL:

I once held a baby gator.. it was kept cool so tourists could hold it without the poor creature noticing it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Handy Haversack:

@Stanley, I'm a vegetarian, but Kate's first Scotland seafood extravaganza was in Leith! A friend took us. Ewen Bremner walked by while I was having a smoke, and I managed to realize it in time to shout "Hibs boy! Top boy!" as he rounded the corner.

That was 2009 ... though I think I recognized the place when we were in Leith last year.

They were giving them out here in Kingston. Not N95s, just cloth ones.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Webhamster Henry:

I made my own mask, I just wanted a few more to decorate and have as spares. I go out really rarely anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Carmichael:

KN95s should be available. Many are FEMA approved; several are not. get from a reputable source.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:59pm Ken From Hyde Park:

@WHH - Call 845-750-1439 and see if that guy has advice on masks and investments.
