Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Bit of Borowitz topical humor...
Avatar 3:17pm fred:

@Jim Ryan: There's a "sign in" link at the very top of the playlist page. I can't tell you how to sign in if you're using the app though (I don't have a phone)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:20pm doctorjazz:

I did it by going to the WFMU home page using the Chrome browser (on my PC or my Android phone). Sign in is on the upper right side. Ok the phone Listen Now gives choices of the main station pure the different streams, and going to the one you want, with selection of today's show, let's you comment. Not as bad as it sounds...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm doctorjazz:

The app also had a way to do it, but haven't tried it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm doctorjazz:

Time for some weights.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm Dave Sewelson:

youtu.be...
Avatar 3:30pm jimzeen:

Wheeww! I done did it. You splained it good. Many thanks, Jim
Avatar 3:33pm jimzeen:

hmmmmmmm no radio and no heart . . . good grief, now I spect money is required . . . o well . . .
Avatar 3:37pm fred:

@Jim: Yep, because our money is all the money the station gets. If you send money to the station once (using the "pledge now" thing above the playlist), you get a heart. If you commit to sending money each month, you get a radio (I think the minimum is $10, but I'm probably wrong)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm Doug Schulkind:

Oh good lord! Johnny Hodges' alto saxophone is breathtaking. It makes me so happy to know that the man was graced with an object befitting his beauty.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm Dave Sewelson:

doug...isnt that horn amazing! i am sure he would have sounded great on anything.....
Avatar 3:41pm fred:

@Jim: All the money is ours, and that's why the only advertising you might hear on the station is for defunct products from the '50s, and there isn't even much of that
Avatar 3:42pm Hams:

ah, thanks for havin' me on, dave. pleased as punch to be here.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm doctorjazz:

Sunny out, think I'll bike, maybe catch more in a bit. Thanks for the wonderful tunes, Dave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Dave Sewelson:

cruising sounds lovely doc....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:45pm Dave Sewelson:

Hams is in the house and welcome indeed...
Avatar 3:48pm fred:

@doctorjazz: enjoy the ride!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Fred, be nice to get out (without close contact)
  3:56pm claire:

how's my sista?
  4:00pm David J:

Eric Plaks’ website says this CD only available at their gigs. Personnel list please?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:02pm Doug Schulkind:

Hoo-boy, that essay on Such Sweet Thunder. Thank you thank you, Dave for sharing it. The music, the essay, the vid of Rabbit's axe—such a masterful contribution to humanity is this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm Dave Sewelson:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18pm chresti:

Avatar 4:19pm fred:

More! With all live shows canceled for the foreseeable future, I need this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21pm chresti:

I had to go to the Kaiser a little while ago, they now have screeners at the entrance that ask if you have any symptoms, didn't see a thermometer though
Avatar 4:24pm fred:

@chresti: so you're not in one of the locked down counties?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm chresti:

Oh it's locked down for non-essential needs, I had to pick up a prescription. @fred
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:28pm Doug Schulkind:

A couple of the Drummer Stream shows had been produced live at WFMU. Those shows have to transition to a home-based production. We are working on getting home studios up and running in the meantime, 100% Whatever with Mary Wing and Underwater Theme Park with Meghan might have to run archives with live playlists. All other shows should continue as you are accustomed.

Actually, Ridgewood Radio might have to pre-record a few shows. David Weinstein can't travel to Ridgewood to do the show, so he has to get a rig together at his home.

Blessedly, in recent months, Sam Segal, Mayuko and Julie had all transitioned to using home studios.

GIVE THE DRUMMER RADIO AND ITS STUPENDOUS RADIOMAKERS ARE HERE FOR YOU!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:29pm Uncle Michael:

I like the assive progressive stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:31pm chresti:

Doug, are you and Martinibomb assisting the mainstream DJs with setting up home studios?
  4:31pm claire:

it's like you are there...oh...wait...you are there
Avatar 4:34pm northguineahills:

phew, made it!
Avatar 4:36pm fred:

This is especially tough for dancers. They can't perform, so they don't get paid. But they also can't train properly. This saddens me more than I can express
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:37pm Dave Sewelson:

is you there?

claire is you there?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm Dave Sewelson:

ngh....yeah
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm chresti:

fred, how long is your lockdown for?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40pm Doug Schulkind:

@chresti
Uncle Michael, especially, has been providing station manager Ken with helpful tools, tutorials, and assistance. Martinibomb has shared his expertise, too. I have added my 2¢. It's a team effort.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm chresti:

Ah, good @Doug.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm chresti:

Thanks UM and Doug and Martinibomb!
Avatar 4:42pm northguineahills:

I've been locked down since yesterday (curfew). And it looks like my job might be delayed at just the time I need get out my house and find a new one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm chresti:

I work for the city, we still go to work , until we get called for disaster relief service, which is around the corner as recreation centers are being turned into shelters for the homeless.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:56pm Doug Schulkind:

Homebound quarantine edition of SOMEDAY MATINEE is next on the Drummer Stream with Gina Bacon.

Gina is here: wfmu.org...
Avatar 4:57pm fred:

@chresti: lockdown is openhanded. Original order was for a couple of weeks, now they're floating two months
  4:58pm David J:

Thanks, Dave! Stay well!
Avatar 4:59pm fred:

Again, thanks Dave for live music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:05pm chresti:

Thanks Dave!
