Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Sounds like music for a free world!

Hello Dave, Francisco and people of the free world
Avatar 2:02pm Dave Sewelson:

Welcome David J and fred!
Avatar 2:07pm northguineahills:

@fred (via Mayulo's board about the Pixies): I once had tix to a sold out show for Frank Black. I was standing in line and I saw a HS friend whom I hadn't seen in 5 years drive from out of town, whom I knew was a huge Frank Black fan, so, I gave him my tix and did not accept payment.

Similarly to you, when I was 16, Nirvana played at my local club, and I was there, but I hadn't heard of them, so, I stayed outside and smoked cloves (this was before Nevermind)

Free World! Free World! Free World!

Hiya, Dave, Mr. Mela, regular and irregular listenrs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm fred:

@ngh: I guess we both lost major bragging rights but learned a lesson about being open minded
Avatar 2:20pm Dave Sewelson:

Sem and ngh are working it out......
Avatar 2:21pm northguineahills:

Curcura can mean curse en espanol, but curcuros also has a root that is similar as cursive, or elegant and flowing in Latin, Curcuro is also an medieval monastery town near Palermo, Sicily w/ some deep Islamic history.....
Avatar 2:21pm northguineahills:

So, to make a short story long, I really don't know for sure....
Avatar 2:32pm Dave Sewelson:

Thanks NGH!

  3:06pm ?:

MELA!! just tuned in. got back in town last night...
  3:07pm claire:

i am the mystery question mark above. tell mela i say HEY!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:10pm fred:

I've told this before, maybe on this playlist (apologies if I did), but I once had an argument with a coworker about Braxton's music. After a long while, it turned out he was talking about Toni, and I about Anthony. Neither of us knew about the "other" Braxton. The conversation turned surreal way before we caught on something being amiss. Wish there was a transcript
Avatar 3:12pm Dave Sewelson:

wow fred!
Avatar 3:12pm Dave Sewelson:

Claire!
  3:13pm claire:

mwah!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm Doug Schulkind:

The world is getting freer.
Avatar 3:21pm northguineahills:

@fred: I know the work of both Braxtons (Anthony is a bodhisattva to me), and was (haven't hung out in almost 8 years) friends w/ Tyondai
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm fred:

@ngh: I know it's a minority opinion, but I liked Battles better when Tyondai was in it.
Also, where are you on the job front? (I've been less than attentive to playlists lately)
  3:26pm claire:

loved it. take this on the road!! i am free!
  3:27pm David J:

You guys sound great
Avatar 3:31pm Dave Sewelson:

you are too kind
Avatar 3:32pm northguineahills:

@fred:Still at UPS, but I have a face to face interview next Friday for a senior GIS manager for the county that includes Orlando....
I need to find a new place to live, as my brother moves into his new house in 6 weeks, but the uncertainty of income has me looking for roommates for the first time my wife and I moved in together 10 years ago. The only people that seem to need roommates are either sketchy or boring (I'm still expanding my social purview around here)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:38pm fred:

@ngh: boring looks better than sketchy (I know sketchy types that are not threatening but would leave you with their share of the rent more often than not). I'd keep fingers crossed for you, but that would slow me down as I walk through the still ongoing transit strike (one month today!). Still hope you'll find something nice for both job and accomodation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Doug Schulkind:

Can't hear you, Dave! Turn your mic on!
Avatar 3:44pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Dave, Francisco & Free worldfolk
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:44pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I think they went into the kitchen for sandwiches.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:48pm fred:

As the Rev. Turnip Druid might say, I must have their sandwiches, or recipes thereof

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07pm Doug Schulkind:

  4:14pm David J:

I think I was thinking about Frank Lowe’s “Exotic Heartbreak”. I’ll compare them later.
  4:18pm David J:

This is nice too! Looking at “Garden Party” album page on Bandcamp.
Avatar 4:28pm Dave Sewelson:

Just got a copy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:54pm Doug Schulkind:

This is historic! Cooper-Moore, washing dishes live on the radio!
  4:54pm David J:

The Mahakalamusic page shows a “More Music for a Free World” album, too...upcoming?
Avatar 4:55pm northguineahills:

One thing I don't miss about my old landlord in Bushwick, it was pulling teeth to get them to replace anything 30+ years old, let alone for him to hire someone to clean the common space, at all....

salud, Dave and Francisco!
