Avatar 5:06pm Jeff Moore:

And hey, to the dedicated jazz-heads who ended up here after Bearded Dave's show:

the next set is jazzy. Some of it's even free!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:07pm Dave Sewelson:

you are a jazzy dude, sir.
Avatar 5:08pm Jeff Moore:

Hey, DAVE!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:15pm WR:

What is this jazz you speak of? The Sounds are good.

Hello-listening to this
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Good lord is this gorgeous.
Avatar 5:25pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks for listening, all.

Nice, huh? Somebody played the Bell Orchestre recently, forcing me to investigate.
Avatar 5:28pm Jeff Moore:

Wait, now i remember where I heard this album first.

It was QXR2 of all places!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:34pm doctorjazz:

Hi. I haven't checked them out, but WQXR2's focus is supposed to be the "new classical" arm of the station.
  5:38pm spodiodi:

sounding good, Jeff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:39pm Doug Schulkind:

I am off to the kitchen where you shall serenade my evening's cookery.
Avatar 5:40pm Jeff Moore:

Beware of Mandolines!
  5:49pm Doug Schulkind:

Avatar 5:50pm Jeff Moore:

And definitely don't operate one after smoking weed. It could deliver a coup de grass.
  5:55pm Doug Schulkind:

When I get high, I will fly the coup.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:58pm doctorjazz:

Cool set!
Avatar 6:01pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks! Doing a show forces me to go back and pay closer attention to stuff I may not have listened to really attentively in awhile (or, um, maybe ever)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:06pm WR:

Yes. Haven't listened to this CT album in many many many years and my ears have changed a lot since then.
Avatar 6:08pm Jeff Moore:

That is a real phenomenon.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:10pm doctorjazz:

Same here, not at all as shocking as when I first bought it. (Still prettyawesome sounding).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:19pm doctorjazz:

Talk about heavy rotation musicians who haven't been heard from much for some time, there was a time Murray had an album out every 2 weeks, mostly worth hearing. Saw him live many times then too. He loved to Europe, but has moved back and been playing in these parts again. Greattrack! (His Grateful Dead covers album is a favorite).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:20pm doctorjazz:

(...moved to Europe...)
Avatar 6:21pm Jeff Moore:

I was following his output pretty closely in the nineties, and need to direct my attention back. Cool if he's playing out locally these days!
Avatar 6:23pm Jeff Moore:

Anybody in the mood for more organ sounds? I believe I am!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:23pm doctorjazz:

Don Pullen on organ!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:25pm WR:

Didn't know Pullen recorded on organ.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:26pm doctorjazz:

Saw him not too long ago in a bangs with his son on guitar, if I remember correctly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:27pm WR:

Cool, listened to McGriff & Earland recently and was looking next for Jimmy Smith.
Avatar 6:28pm Jeff Moore:

@doctorjazz: have annotated playlist appropriately
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:28pm doctorjazz:

Me neither (though I have this Murray CD, forgot...i just searched it)
  6:34pm Doug Schulkind:

This is helping my jambalaya immensely. Thanks, Chef Moore!
  6:35pm Carmichael:

Heya Jeff and hepcats.
Avatar 6:36pm Jeff Moore:

Really funny thing: I just did a playlist search, and absolutely everybody at WFMU who's played anything off this new "Blue World" release has played...

the track Blue World.

I like this one, meself.
Avatar 6:37pm Jeff Moore:

Dammit, Doug, now you're making me hungry.
Avatar 6:42pm huomenta:

young marble giants?
Avatar 6:42pm huomenta:

they were so good live 2013!
Avatar 6:43pm huomenta:

her voice had not aged a bit.
  6:47pm Doug Schulkind:

You are whetting appetites, too, Sir.
Avatar 6:51pm Jeff Moore:

@huomenta: so cool you got to see YMG recently AND THEY WERE GOOD.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:52pm doctorjazz:

Nice to hear something recent from Arto Lindsay...Saw him way back with DNA.
Avatar 6:54pm Jeff Moore:

Remember when Arto Lindsay performed at the station (for Duane's show, I think)? Sometimes his guitar sounded like rocks crushing rocks. It was great.

And he had that pretty bright blue Danelectro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 6:59pm WR:

Enjoyed the show. Jeff, I look forward to your next bi-annual fill-in. Doctorjazz, until the next time. Cheers.
Avatar 7:02pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks, @WR!

I'm not gone yet – Doug has told me I can lap over a little today.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:04pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Jeff, great show! Catch you around, WR! Happy New Year!
Avatar 7:05pm huomenta:

For many many years I thought Mr. Lindsay had Finnish roots because of "Arto" (common Finnish first name), silly silly me. He was very enjoyable live too, softly sung brazilian portuguese lyrics accompanied by the infernal racket he made with his guitar
  7:05pm JakeGould:

5 minutes late. Kudos nonetheless, Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:06pm WR:

Yes, noted, you're doing a double fill-in, but I gotta step out. Happy New Year to any I don't bump into in the chat before 2020.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm chresti:

Dang, I missed Renaldo and the Loaf.
  7:08pm JakeGould:

Oh wait, it’s still happening!
Avatar 7:09pm Jeff Moore:

Avatar 7:10pm Jeff Moore:

Not doing the full double slot thing. Just about done, actually.

It was nice to have a little extra breathing room, though!
  7:16pm Doug Schulkind:

So happy to hear you and hang out with you, Jeff!
Avatar 7:19pm Jeff Moore:

Thanks, Doug! Thanks for thinking of me for the fill!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm coelacanth∅:

Thanks Jeff
  7:23pm JakeGould:

Thanks Jeff!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm chresti:

Thanks Jeff! See you in the funny papers!
Avatar 7:27pm huomenta:

Thanks Jeff, happy new decade and what a pity this show ended so early (thought it would go on until the said 8pm)
Avatar 4:15pm Jeff Moore:

Sorry for the unmatched expectations, @houmenta – when I got music collected for this exercise and realized my natural stopping place might be a little past the two-hour mark allocated for Gina's show, I asked Doug if the next block had been claimed for a fill-in so I'd have to keep it tight, or if I could slop over a bit. He said slop away, and he added an additional full hour for the shift in the scheduling system (because that's the way that system works most naturally).

But this was put together to be about a two-hour show (plus a little because the hard end constraint went away).
