A two-hour exploration of excavations from the farthest reaches of humanity's hellish collective brain, through records, tapes, CDs, mostly scoured from country bumpkin thrift stores, creepy charity shops, backwoods junk stores, and even the internet - all mixed live. We don't judge, we just play 'em. Hosted by Rich in Washington.

Hi folks!
I'll be with you momentarily. I've set up a bit of a complicated opening bit, so might not be super chatty towards the beginning.
Avatar 6:57pm Don-O:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:09pm Yvang:

Hey Rich and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Otis Fodder:

Hi Rich. Ran in from the kitchen, listening to you as I figure out what I'm going to make and start laundry and dishes. Let's go!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:11pm brainiac:

Hi Rich. That new mic sounds good, but maybe could use a low pass filter for the air :)
Avatar 7:12pm spodiodi:

how high's the water momma?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Rich in Washington:

Hi brainiac! It's actually the same mic but with a new, somewhat untested signal chain.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Rich in Washington:

spodiodi!
Avatar 7:12pm spodiodi:

hi Rich, diggers!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar 7:27pm Don-O:

Avatar 7:27pm spodiodi:

counted as a compliment *cough*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Rich in Washington:

Hi ParUbi!

Everyone else’s favorite poet!
Avatar 7:28pm spodiodi:

i miss proper 4 seasons
Avatar 7:28pm spodiodi:

rain and snow are best for chasing away the riff-raff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:28pm brainiac:

It's not just rain -- it's an atmospheric river!
Avatar 7:29pm spodiodi:

and the rain greatly helps with the city's aroma
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:29pm Rich in Washington:

That IS what they're calling it, brainiac!
Avatar 7:29pm spodiodi:

i'm paddle-less
  7:29pm ParUbi:

Koyaanisqatsi in the mix!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Rich in Washington:

I'm mixing over the top of a radio show I did over ten years ago.
Avatar 7:30pm spodiodi:

Avatar 7:32pm spodiodi:

their "Cry" video is still giving me nightmares. sounds good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Santos L. Halper:

Sounding great Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

G&C were geniuses. Too bad they're no longer working together.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:33pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, Santos!
Avatar 7:35pm Martinibomb:

this cheap-o headphone amp i ordered just showed up! now guests can hear them selves on mic yay
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:36pm Rich in Washington:

I need that very thing, MB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:38pm Santos L. Halper:

Pete and Robert, good combo
Avatar 7:38pm Martinibomb:

Yep this will be very handy
Avatar 7:38pm geezerette:

The layering is beautiful, Rich. Mic sounds great too.
Hypnotizing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:40pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, geezerette! Glad you're digging it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm brainiac:

I try to remember to yell "GALSTON DART" whenever something provokes me to curse.
Avatar 7:52pm spodiodi:

flood tape is funny
Avatar 7:53pm Martinibomb:

@Rich I read that Duane the Rock is related to Tom Peterson. His uncle married Tom's daughter? Lol
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

The guy who made this was a longtime KBOO DJ who did a lot of tapes by hand, razorblade, etc.
Avatar 7:54pm Martinibomb:

Oh man! remember this flood really well
Avatar 7:54pm spodiodi:

his flattop is neat
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

I heard that too! And he's a big investor to Salt & Straw!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:54pm Rich in Washington:

I would love to get Jim to do a show again. He's a freaking genius.
Avatar 7:58pm Martinibomb:

Mayor Katz has been training for this float for several months.
Avatar 7:58pm ironybread:

This is great - reminds me of Firesign's "Bob Sideburn News". "And he's waiting. And we're waiting. And what we're waiting for is, literally, something to happen."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:58pm Santos L. Halper:

If only the news were like this all the time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm Rich in Washington:

Hi ironybread!
Avatar 8:04pm Martinibomb:

@Rich I think your mic is clipping slightly? The mic is much clear/better sound just seems like a little hot / still dialing it in.
Avatar 8:05pm spodiodi:

I know nothing, and while your mic sounds quality, loud, and clear to me... but it sounds like maybe it's output level (?) is too high. I'd trust everyone else's feedback over mine if I were you. Regardless, show sounds great, and glad to be here. Thanks you!
Avatar 8:05pm Martinibomb:

Play some Bo Diddley!
Avatar 8:06pm Martinibomb:

Ungawa!
Avatar 8:08pm ironybread:

Bless you, I went to the NORAD audio collection and I'm damned if I could find this one!
Avatar 8:11pm spodiodi:

clipping. thanks, Martinibomb
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Alina Brennaman:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Rich in Washington:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Alina Brennaman:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Alina! My mother in law is visiting at the moment and her name is also Alina.
Avatar 8:17pm Martinibomb:

Avatar 8:17pm Martinibomb:

Ungawa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm ARB:

Hi Rich! where is she from? I've only met 1 other Alina
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Rich in Washington:

Our daughter is named after her as well, so two Alinas!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Rich in Washington:

We're all Pacific Northwesterners. I have douglas fir needles stuck in my teeth to prove it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Rich in Washington:

But my mother in law is Finnish.
Avatar 8:22pm Martinibomb:

I gotta get this new Fred Lane album it's way to awesome
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm ARB:

How I wish I could go to Birmingham to see his first performance since 76
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm brainiac:

My mother-in-law is never finished *~*
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm ARB:

If we had a Sheena Stocking I'd wanted it to be stuffed with Fred Lane
Avatar 8:25pm ironybread:

Pickin' up the soap in the middle of the air? Mah cousin Ezikiel were killed by a wheel a-rollin' n it tweren't funny.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:29pm ARB:

what is this beautiful song!? I'm enchanted
Avatar 8:30pm spodiodi:

sing it Rudy
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Rich in Washington:

ARB: I've been thinking about doing a whole ton of Fred Lane.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Rich in Washington:

It's The Rudy Schwartz Project!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:32pm ARB:

Rich- we should try to get a screening of Icepick at the FMU fair in April
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm ARB:

Have you heard the Poxy Boggards do this song?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:36pm ARB:

Santa Dog that is, done by a Renaissance Fair men's choir.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:37pm Rich in Washington:

@ARB: I'm actually talking to the Clinton Street people in Portland but it's not looking hopeful.
Avatar 8:37pm Martinibomb:

I just looked up a poxy vid pretty hilarious stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:42pm ARB:

I haven't seen the vids, I just have that song on a residents tribute. it's always cheers me up
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm ARB:

I'm breaking down and buying the new renaldo and the loaf record right now, speaking of bands that haven't released an album since the 80s
Avatar 8:43pm Martinibomb:

they have songs titled "wear no pants" etc..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm ARB:

because their tunics are so long they reach the tops of their medieval boots, they don't need pants
Avatar 8:50pm Martinibomb:

I prefer to say A.R.B. over ARB as it's more like F.A.B. in the vein of Thunderbirds are Go
Avatar 8:52pm geezerette:

'Happy Holidays, Rich! ,Jungle Bells, all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Kat in Chicago:

I got home too late to hear the regular show but I'll certainly stick around for the afterset! Yes, Jungle Bells to all y'all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks, geezerette!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:53pm A.R.B.:

I had a friend that called my Araby like A.R.B. as in the sheik
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm A.R.B.:

I'm here for the after set too
Avatar 8:54pm spodiodi:

thanks for the show, Rich! happy holidays! (mic sounded better, i think. sounds like maybe it could use a little more of whatever you did, but i defer to Martinibomb)
Avatar 8:57pm spodiodi:

this reefer man sounds familiar
Avatar 8:58pm geezerette:

little ol' reefer mens are everywhere!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:59pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks everybody!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm A.R.B.:

Avatar 9:06pm spodiodi:

tata
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm A.R.B.:

I love this one!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:08pm A.R.B.:

Wish she'd do another spoken word album, her books and films are good but these were something else!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:09pm Rich in Washington:

I love her films. They're insane in a good way.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:16pm A.R.B.:

I love the after hours segment
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:18pm Rich in Washington:

Yeah. Me too. There's something fun about spinning after a show and knowing it's not recorded and maybe not many people are listening. I don't know why. Thanks for listening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Kat in Chicago:

Maggie Estep - there's a name I haven't heard for a minute.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Rich in Washington:

Hi Kat!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:21pm Kat in Chicago:

Hi Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

hallooooo!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm A.R.B.:

yo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:25pm Rich in Washington:

Granny! You're just in time for the non-show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Rich in Washington:

Hi A.R.B.! My mother-in-law just left. I didn't get much of a chance to talk to her before my show started. Oh well. She's over quite often since my wife's convalescence from her surgery.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:30pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

glad i wasn't a no-show for the non-show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:32pm Rich in Washington:

Why is doing a completely unplanned show so much more fun? Why can't I unplan my shows like this?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm A.R.B.:

your wife is recovering well?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Kat in Chicago:

You could have fooled me, it sounds well thought out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm Kat in Chicago:

Yes, how's Coco?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:36pm ARB:

I'm blissfully folding j-cards to this soundtrack
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Rich in Washington:

She's doing fantastic! She's much better than even before. She was really fatigued a lot and looking back, was always feeling like she was just about to catch a cold or something. She's doing great now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Rich in Washington:

Oh wow! Do tell, ARB!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Kat in Chicago:

Glad to hear she's thriving!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Rich in Washington:

I am very grateful for everything. What a crazy time but everything's better than before. So happy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm ARB:

yeah that's fantastic, it must have been so scary going into the surgery. so glad to hear it was an all around success
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

yay for happy!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:40pm ARB:

I made a mix tape to sell at gigs and probably use for the next pledge drive since i was oblivious to the one that just ended
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:41pm Rich in Washington:

It was scary. We actually had all our kids converge on the hospital because, well - you never know. It was quite the occasion. Again, so grateful. I also appreciate people who go into the healthcare field. Wow.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm ARB:

how long was she on general anesthesia?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:46pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

wheee! these sounds are delightful!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:47pm Rich in Washington:

I'm not entirely sure. Several hours. They kept her intubated for a really long time because of a procedure they had to do with her heart that was sort of non-standard, involving a balloon which kept pressure on her heart. Really scary shit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm ARB:

oh my god, she's brave!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Rich in Washington:

I love this record. It's precious to me for a number of reasons. It skips a bit but has a heart of gold.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:49pm Rich in Washington:

Yes she is!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm ARB:

is it something that's going to need much maintenance in the future or just a wham bam thank you ma'am kinda surgery?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm ARB:

playing after hours is like out free-forming free-form radio. I'm super stoked on bc's new show but now i feel squoze in at both ends, no room to steal airwaves out of turn
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:52pm Rich in Washington:

She's going to need to do some PT and there's a small chance she'll have to have the whole heart valve thing done over again but other than that, there's a better chance that she'll be healthier than before.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:55pm Rich in Washington:

I know! We're filling up the schedule! More shows = more listeners!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm ARB:

thinking about starting 3 more shows so i can beat georgy and jan
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Kat in Chicago:

Thanks for the bonus beats, Rich! I'll catch the archive of the "planned" show later.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm ARB:

yeah! that was great, now i gotta wait for the archive to post so i can catch the first hour. thanks Rich!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:02pm Rich in Washington:

Thanks for listening everybody! Have a great weekend and merry whatever you have!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:00am WR:

Rich, somehow I did not realize that you had a show on the Sheena stream. Thought I had read that you did program on a local station, not FMU. Noticed it tonight just as you were finishing, new program not archived yet so went back a week. Wow. I'm a fan. Had to work late tonight and your program helped lessen the tedium. More specific comments regarding what you play forth coming.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:13am Rich in Washington:

Yay! I'm all for alleviating tedium! Glad you found this show, WR!
