Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Beautiful
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:21pm fred:

OK, I can't afford to pledge as much as I'd like. But if you can bring this show to 80%, I'll pledge the rest.
Offer only valid during the show, unlike the Mayuko one. I get less stupid by the minute
  2:22pm Peter Kuhn:

yo, Dave put up the pledge link

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Doug Schulkind:

Bless you, fred! Rise up, one and all, in support of this mindblowing—and blowing!—radio show! Click the PLEDGE NOW button atop the playlist page or go here: pledge.wfmu.org...

@Dave: did you even have a beard back then?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm WR:

True pleasure to hear Music for A Free World host JD Parran.
  2:31pm Luther:

You guys gonna bust out the Funky Donkey?
Avatar 2:35pm Dave Sewelson:

This beard's birthday is July 24, 2005
  2:38pm Andrew Drury:

This what radio should be. Totally digging this but can’t convince my family which I’m finding sad
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:39pm fred:

My hair's birthday is January 2nd, 1995, but it tends to break and fall out, so it's generally crummy, especially compared to The Beard
Avatar 2:39pm Dave Sewelson:

Andrew...you will have to come on with your family
  2:40pm Andrew Drury:

Ha! That just made my day!
Avatar 2:42pm david w:

Let's all bring our skeptical, disconnected families to meet Dave and compare hair and beards!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:45pm fred:

@David: sure, but they have to pledge first
Avatar 2:47pm Dave Sewelson:

fred Doug Pete Andrew WR Luther WR thanks for tuning in....
Avatar 2:48pm Dave Sewelson:

chresti and Franco all you participants
Avatar 2:50pm northguineahills:

Shaved my beard off yesterday. It would be back in 10 days if I didn't have to shave for my interview next week. ( I get a 5 o'clock shadow before noon).
  2:55pm sister claire:

I am not anonymous here! I am Claire daly. glad to throw you some beans, and now I gotta split. I posted on my page. I hope you make the big goal. you're 25% there. all you lovely listeners, just kick in a bit and it'll happen!
Avatar 2:56pm Dave Sewelson:

Thanks Claire...they tell me not to give a away the givers details on the air so the takers can track you down...
  2:57pm sister claire:

oooh. well, if any of your listeners track me down, I'll make them send you money.
Avatar 3:00pm Dave Sewelson:

one shave at a time
Avatar 3:06pm Sem:

Greets, Dave and free worlders. Letting the sounds wash over me, bliss.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm fred:

I have to shave before going out it public. Otherwise it's just random patches of white hair, not even connected to each other. An unsightly mess
Avatar 3:11pm Dave Sewelson:

dig it Sen....
Avatar 3:12pm northguineahills:

My blonde streaks in my beard are no longer so golden going towards a silver blonde now (but the rest of my hair is a nearly jet black).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:12pm doctorjazz:

Hi. Great Stuff!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:13pm chresti:

My brother was once married to someone who shaved her arms daily, not just the armpits
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm fred:

@chresti: Ugh, shaving arms sounds gross. Then again, shaving armpits or legs is weird
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:26pm fred:

Will you guys hold me accountable for my pledge to pledge? I don't see the needle moving much
Avatar 3:30pm Dave Sewelson:

fred...we will work it...
Avatar 3:31pm northguineahills:

I'm lucky. I barely have any body hair except the usual places. My wife has more arm and leg hair then I ( I still have her beat on the chest, thankfully for both of us)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:34pm fred:

I guess I'm hindering more than helping. Signing off. I'll be looking to see if I have to check in financially, won't be otherwise
Avatar 3:35pm Dave Sewelson:

thanks fred!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm chresti:

This woman also shaved her face and legs, at the time, she wanted to be a model
  3:45pm spodiodi:

sounds great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46pm chresti:

Why do you have your wife beat on her chest?
3:47pm Jan Birkin eating the apple:

To summon the jungle animals?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:47pm doctorjazz:

It's that time, they sound great together, don't ya think?
  3:47pm spodiodi:

i think it's not uncommon for people with tattoo sleeves to shave their arms
3:48pm Jan Birkin eating the apple:

To establish her dominance?
  3:49pm spodiodi:

he has more hair on his chest than his waife, chresti
  3:49pm spodiodi:

beat her by having more hair
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:49pm chresti:

Sounds good...
  3:50pm spodiodi:

but i love the question, and Jan's answer
Avatar 3:51pm northguineahills:

  3:51pm Jim Ryan:

Good to hear you on the show, J.D. and to hear you guys playing. Cheers! Peace! & Good Will! Jim
  3:54pm spodiodi:

this is great
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55pm WR:

Applause applause. Beautiful!!! That you for playing for us.
  3:56pm Pete:

@Dave Maybe you are ready to buy my contra alto clarinet now? Might be more up your alley than the Bb I sent you.
  3:57pm Pete:

I've got a fantastic mouthpiece for it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:01pm fred:

I'm not in bed. Just waiting for you guys to push Dave to 80% of his goal, and then I will take it to 100%
  4:01pm spodiodi:

chresti, i've realized maybe you knew exactly what he ngh meant :) funny either way
  4:01pm David J:

I contributed a little and selected your show but my email receipt says it was credited to “All of WFMU”.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:04pm WR:

@David J you can email them and it will be fixed. Drive goes to end of the month so Music for a Free World can still get credit. Thank you!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm chresti:

spodiodi:)

and haha Jane..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:05pm fred:

@David J: It happened to me also. Ask Joe MxGasko to fix it. Seems to be a "known issue"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:09pm fred:

McGasko, not "MxGasko", obviously
I'd hate for that glitch to get me off the hook, so I'll lower the threshold. Get this show to 75% and I'll cover the rest
  4:11pm Jim Ryan:

Never heard Howard Johnson on bari before, wonderful! Jim
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm doctorjazz:

Before The Last Waltz (asks before I was aware of jazz), Howard Johnson blew me away on Taj Mahal's live The Real Thing!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:14pm doctorjazz:

Seen Gravity, great band!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:17pm fred:

@doctorjazz: Did your daughter apply to get a role in Bronwyn's show? Not the station one, I mean
  4:17pm Jim Ryan:

So lyrical! and on Tuba!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:22pm doctorjazz:

Hi Fred...we got in touch, and the show is still in the writing stages. Bronwyn expects it to be ready for auditions next year, and my daughter will go (if she's not in something already at the time).
Small world moment...turns out my daughter and Bronwyn were in the same college class/school. graduated the same time (but they didn't know each other).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24pm WR:

Wow. Doctorzjazz, small world indeed.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25pm fred:

@doctorjazz: I hope it works out
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm doctorjazz:

@WR, did you get the Threadgill stuff?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm doctorjazz:

Thanks, Fred.
  4:40pm Lee Odom:

Yes!! Yes!! Yes!! Fantastic!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm doctorjazz:

(If she misses the show because she booked Hamilton, she'll be ok...)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:41pm Doug Schulkind:

@David J

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm fred:

I know I said I'd shut up, but I want to remind you that if you show up and bring this show to 75% of its goal, I'll pledge the rest
