Charles Mingus said jazz was a word invented to separate musicians from their money. Music for a Free World brings us together, drawing listeners to the healing power of smooth free jazz. Each week, surprise guests bring their own sides to spin and their instruments of choice to spontaneously jam.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:25pm Linda Lee:

please, Stream Gods! please! not now.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:26pm Linda Lee:

before the east village it was the lower east side, i do believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:27pm Linda Lee:

whenever neighborhoods start taking on names, look out. that means the developers have their eyes on it.
i ran to greenpoint from the LES also (1985)! it is a lovely community.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:30pm Linda Lee:

read john fante' if you have not. not to be missed. brilliant writer.
Avatar 7:30pm Dave Sewelson:

LL, the neighborhood re-branding happened-happens-here, too. Sometimes more than a few times, maybe trying different names, in Los Angeles basin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm chresti:

This is very sounding great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:03pm Linda Lee:

there might be the main east/west difference. ours tend to stick :-)
isn't this amazing!
Avatar 8:03pm coelacanth∅:

i very love this!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Linda Lee:

wow :-D
Avatar 8:05pm Franco Twinkie:

The city of Los Angeles has the most stupidly transparent real estate strategies. If your neighborhood gets a reflective blue sign with the city seal stuck on it....watch out!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Linda Lee:

where do the encampments of homeless fit in here.. ?
Avatar 8:07pm coelacanth∅:

coming west on i84 into new york there are signs saying (something like) "the new york *experience*"
...how fucking sickening. marketing your fucking state.
pathetic.
  8:07pm deepop:

anybody out there
Avatar 8:08pm Franco Twinkie:

They live under freeway bridges, for one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Linda Lee:

wer'e here!! :-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm Linda Lee:

coel, that outright marketing started decades ago with i (heart) new york.
Avatar 8:09pm Dave Sewelson:

Franco...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:09pm chresti:

LL- they're Everywhere!
Avatar 8:11pm coelacanth∅:

right Linda. around the same time the armed forces became a capitalist business venture and started advertising.
Avatar 8:11pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Dave! Hi Dee!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Linda Lee:

yes..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm chresti:

..freeway bridges
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm Linda Lee:

thankfully. shelter & little freezing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm chresti:

..the LA river
Avatar 8:13pm coelacanth∅:

(...which expedited my finding wfmu in 1977, when wnew started having >hourly advertisements for the army, and i checked out of there)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Linda Lee:

Bush Tetras! good for David!
some bands get close to your heart on first hearing. Bush Tetras are one of mine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm chresti:

Tea Time!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Linda Lee:

love that last title :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm chresti:

Hi deepop!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:15pm Linda Lee:

yessssss that's the sound right there. beautiful!! :-D
Avatar 8:15pm coelacanth∅:

me and bush tetras go back to c.1983. the former manager of a club in new england somewhere called the underground? gave me some tapes he played at the club. too many creeps one of the songs.
Avatar 8:16pm Franco Twinkie:

That is the most accurate discriptor for most good record shops.
Avatar 8:17pm coelacanth∅:

(then Paul Cavenaugh on wfmu played them)
  8:17pm deepop:

cool. thanks. I remember the underground
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm Linda Lee:

i'm pretty sure i first heard them in 79 or 80. lots going on downtown then!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Linda Lee:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Linda Lee:

Avatar 8:32pm coelacanth∅:

Franco i remember 40 like it was yesterday. i often have to remind myself how old i am so i don't make quite as much of an ass of myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:33pm Linda Lee:

love it! :-)
Avatar 8:33pm Franco Twinkie:

I seem to remember seen a flyer for the Bush Tetras playing with Monitor someplace in L.A. Am I wrong?
  8:34pm deepop:

making an ass out of myself is easier and better now because I no longer care
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:34pm Linda Lee:

a great thing about looking mortality in the eye :-D
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm Linda Lee:

we can stop worrying about bullshit!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm chresti:

we are free to be me!
Avatar 8:41pm coelacanth∅:

deepop true generally but there are certain ways i don't want to make an ass of myself, as i live in a college town, with so many judgemental "free" thinkers. it'd be very easy to alienate myself here.
  8:41pm deepop:

GOT IT
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:44pm Linda Lee:

wow..
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:45pm Linda Lee:

wow
  8:45pm deepop:
