Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Matt from New Orleans:

I really don’t get why the Columbia period is looked down on. Lots of good stuff even if she was given better stuff to work with at Atlantic.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Funky16Corners:

Columbia was all over the place, with jazz, showtunes, gospel and soul (near the end). But then all Aretha is good Aretha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm chresti:

Hi TesTIfy!
Avatar 10:05pm Erica:

Can't believe it's the last week of August already. the kids in my town go back to school next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Funky16Corners:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm JtotheK:

Great Eddie & De-Havelons 45! Hi Larry, hiya everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Funky16Corners:

Chresti!
Avatar 10:06pm Erica:

Also, hi everyone. I hope you had a wonderful trip Larry.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:06pm Funky16Corners:

JtotheK!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:07pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Erica! It was very nice, but it's good to be home.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:10pm Funky16Corners:

This is the lady in the GIF with the groovy earrings
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm JtotheK:

Wait, is it now Friday night 7pm CST? (8pm FMU time?)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

i'm grooving!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Funky16Corners:

Granny!
  10:16pm Doug Schulkind:

Kids are back to school here in Pittsburgh already. Should be a crime to open school before Labor Day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Funky16Corners:

@JtotheK - It may be Finewine's trademark, but it's also oneof my fave 45s!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Granny Spicy Tuna (they/them):

howdy, Larry and folx! i as confused, too, JtotheK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:16pm Funky16Corners:

@Doug - It's Pittsburgh'sown Chuck Edwards!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:18pm JtotheK:

@larry, I'm just funnin', as it's now impossible for me to hear the song without immediately thinking of Friday night 7/8pm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:19pm Matt from New Orleans:

It’s a shame that Venisha Brown looked just like James instead of Yvonne Fair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:20pm Matt from New Orleans:

www.instagram.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - Is that JB's child with Yvonne?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:21pm Matt from New Orleans:

Yup
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:22pm Funky16Corners:

That is a STRONG resemblance!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Matt from New Orleans:

I love Seven B. Eddie Bo doing his thing in so many ways.
Avatar 10:27pm Erica:

And this song has a strong resemblance of James Brown too. Did he write this one?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:27pm Funky16Corners:

Great label!
  10:27pm Doug Schulkind:

I thought Dy-na-Mite was by Jimmy Walker.
Avatar 10:28pm Erica:

Don't you mean Dyn-O-Mite Doug?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:28pm Funky16Corners:

@Doug - I can't believe Walker didn't record a 45 to capitalize on his fame. There is Dynomite by Tony Camillo's Bazuka
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:29pm Funky16Corners:

This is the two stylish gents with the maraccas in the gif
  10:30pm Doug Schulkind:

Yes of course , Erica. Thanks for the correction.
Avatar 10:30pm Erica:

Would've been cool if Jimmy Walker did record, even a comedy record called Dynomite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:31pm Funky16Corners:

If he'd come to fame in the 60s he would have been forced to by some enterprising record exec
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm chresti:

Thunder Chicken
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm Funky16Corners:

Philadelphia 45!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm JtotheK:

@Erica, Larry - he did in fact record such an album!
www.discogs.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Matt from New Orleans:

Does a thunder chicken spew lightning when bawking?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Funky16Corners:

Only if you feed them properly
Avatar 10:35pm Erica:

@JtotheK Now THAT IS Dynomite! Wish one of the tracks was called that though.
Avatar 10:36pm Erica:

And it was released by our good friends at Buddah records.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:36pm Matt from New Orleans:

One of the LP listings is for $50 and I got apoplectic but then clicked on the other LP listing and it was $1.23 which seemed more in line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, I can't imagine a world where the sophisticated comedy of Jimmy JJ Walker is going for more than a few bucks
Avatar 10:40pm Erica:

"Boys" is one of my favorite Shirelles songs. Surprised it was released in 1960, when the decade just begun and rockabilly was still popular.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm JtotheK:

I spun this Betty mighty crowded 45 with my good friend Flavor Dave (RIP, miss ya, buddy) when we filled in for a friend's night, and he took a picture because the spot was getting ... mighty crowded, but alas i don't have the pic. *sigh*
Avatar 10:41pm Erica:

I knew they were big in the 60s but I didn't think they debuted that early on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:41pm doctorjazz:

Checking in.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - And it's the flipside to a giant hit 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow'
Avatar 10:42pm Jeff Ash:

"Loose Juice" was on one of the first F16C mixes I ever grabbed. The mighty V.7 -- "Funky Shing-A-Ling"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - That was a good one (if I say so myself).
Avatar 10:43pm Jeff Ash:

Yes, sir, it sure was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:43pm Matt from New Orleans:

All 45s tonight Larry?
Avatar 10:43pm Erica:

The B-side written by the legendary Carole King, of course. And this was BEFORE the Beatles (were famous).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Funky16Corners:

@Matt - Yes, indeed!
Avatar 10:48pm Erica:

With your BAD SELF!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:49pm Funky16Corners:

Syl Johnson was/is amazing. A complete badass.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:53pm Franco Twinkie:

Hi Larry. Until right now, I always thought that was a Motorhead original.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:54pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Franco! Covered by The Who, the Rationals, the UK Birds (Ronnie Woods early band) among others
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:55pm Franco Twinkie:

Didn't know.
Avatar 10:57pm Erica:

Crud good vocals here.
Avatar 11:06pm Erica:

Reminds me of Sweet Soul Music.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:07pm Funky16Corners:

It's definitely in the same vein.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:10pm doctorjazz:

Neville spotting!
  11:11pm JtotheK:

I’ll have to catch the rest via archive - thanks for the tunes Larry! Cheers everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

Nite Jtothek!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Franco Twinkie:

When I was a kid I imagined Mohair Sam was a pink version of Cousin It, because my sister had a pink mohair sweater. It was my only reference point to mohair.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Funky16Corners:

@Doc - I try to fit in as many of those as i can!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:12pm Funky16Corners:

@Franco - That was definitely a word that I knew for years before I had any idea what it meant
Avatar 11:14pm Erica:

Mohair /ˈmoʊhɛər/ is usually a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the Angora goat (not to be confused with the Angora rabbit which produces Angora wool).
Avatar 11:14pm Erica:

According to Wikipedia anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14pm Funky16Corners:

I think by the time I was a teen mohair was out of fashion
Avatar 11:15pm Erica:

And by that point, the goats were spared of their wool.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm northguineahills:

Here for a bit....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Funky16Corners:

Hey NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:16pm Franco Twinkie:

Another one that had me stumped was Alpaca.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:18pm northguineahills:

Originally, Omar Khayyam was a Persian poet in the 14th c. whose collection of verses is called the Rubaiyats (I have a copy of the first printing of the first English translation from 1898, got it at stoop sale for 60 cents....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:19pm Franco Twinkie:

Chuck Roast would go great with Hot Pastrami by The Dartells.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Funky16Corners:

I ought to do an all food-song show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Franco Twinkie:

My dream show.
Avatar 11:20pm Erica:

That sounds musically delicious, with marshmallows Franco.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:21pm Funky16Corners:

@Franco - I'll put it on the agenda!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Franco Twinkie:

Larry, have you noticed how many food song are just someone yelling the name of a particular food?
Avatar 11:22pm Erica:

I wouldn't be surprised if you did do an all food show Larry. Then this chat room would be filled with food conversations.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:23pm Funky16Corners:

@Franco - I have indeed. I'll have to include "Beef Stew' by Obie Plenty
Avatar 11:24pm Erica:

I meant a new all food-themed show.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:25pm Matt from New Orleans:

There’s a monthly show on another station called Lunchtime Wrap as it airs at noon in the UK and they always have a lunch themed section.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Franco Twinkie:

When I worked on a music program, we always talked about the food show, but alas, it never happened.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm Funky16Corners:

@Erica - I'm pretty sure I've done a 'soul food' set but not a whole show, but I'll have to go back and check
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Franco Twinkie:

I was the prop master on a cooking show. It was the best job I've ever had.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28pm Funky16Corners:

I bet you ate well!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm Franco Twinkie:

Indeed!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Matt from New Orleans:

Have a good night everyone. Putting the phone down but will listen till I pass out.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:37pm Funky16Corners:

Nite Matt!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38pm Franco Twinkie:

Good night Matt.
Avatar 11:39pm Jeff Ash:

You also hepped me to this Lewis Clark song and it's part of my workout mix.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40pm Franco Twinkie:

As a matter of fact, I would love to take a dog to the drive-in.
Avatar 11:41pm Erica:

I prefer to take a cat to the drive-in myself.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:41pm Franco Twinkie:

I'm allergic to cats.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42pm Funky16Corners:

We almost went to the drive in when we were on vacation but I think we all would have fallen asleep
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46pm Franco Twinkie:

What if Sugarpie Desanto had teamed up with Sugarcane Harris? I suppose that always will be one of the great unknowns.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Funky16Corners:

I'd but that record.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Funky16Corners:

BUY
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47pm Franco Twinkie:

Cropper chopping wood?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm doctorjazz:

.Great mix, hard to sir still, gonna crash, thanks Larry!
Avatar 11:48pm Jeff Ash:

King Curtis leading the backing band.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:48pm Funky16Corners:

Yup, and Jimi Hendrix on rhythm guitar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:49pm Franco Twinkie:

Whoa!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Funky16Corners:

It's a recycled rhythm track, first used on 'Help Me' by Ray Sharpe, then by Aretha, then King Curtis himself, then Owen Gray in the UK
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51pm Funky16Corners:

Nite Doc!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Funky16Corners:

@Franco - On the Aretha record?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52pm Franco Twinkie:

Yeah.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53pm Funky16Corners:

No, someone at Muscle Shoals
Avatar 11:54pm Erica:

1, 2, 3!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm Funky16Corners:

@Franco - It was Cornell Dupree
Avatar 11:56pm Jeff Ash:

Thanks, Larry! Have a great weekend!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Franco Twinkie:

I asked because it had Steve's economy. but if you say no...
Avatar 11:58pm Erica:

Killer show. Ending it with Len Barry made it worth it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm chresti:

Thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Franco Twinkie:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Funky16Corners:

@Erica - Glad you liked that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:00am Funky16Corners:

Nite Jeff!
Avatar 12:02am Erica:

Can't wait for the birthday show next week. Goodnight!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm Cal Zone!:

This was such a great set, and may be one of my favorite shows ever of yours! So great. I've listened to it 2.5 times. My only problem with it is I can't resist getting up and jumping around when it's playing and sometimes I knock over things and people!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:36pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks Cal! Also, the management takes no responsibility for damage arising from music-related joy-making.
