Mark, I almost played something from that record, so get out of my head.

Avatar 🦀 Swag For Life Member 9:30am
doctorjazz:

Davis with James Newton, flute. Great stuff!
  9:30am
Mark R:

Well, the tracks on the new one are all so friggin' long, they tend to dominate a set (not that that's always a BAD thing). BTW I've got the windows open for some fresh air in the brief few morning hours before the heat overtakes us, and your show is going nicely with the cicadas in the trees (although I'd say the cicadas are louder!)
  9:32am

Solution: Turn the volume of D:O WAY up!

We've got one (Ozzie), and my younger daughter (who's home from college for the summer) has another (Maxie). So, for the summer we have 2.

Good morning to you, @Sem! Welcome.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37am
Jeff Golick:

I generally do the last dog walk of the evening here, and the highlight over the summer has been going by Prospect Park and being serenaded by the cicadas.
  9:40am
Mark R:

Intakt is starting to release some really interesting albums, I've noticed. They just released a gorgeous album of entirely improvised music by the pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and the violinist Mark Feldman.
  9:42am
Doug Schulkind:

The last dog walk of the evening sounds like the pooch gets multiple evening walks. That dog’s living large!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43am
Jeff Golick:

Not really -- that should really be "last walk of the day."
  9:44am
Mark R:

It's staying light out til 8 o'clock so the last walk of the day is sort of an evening walk

The existence of this record (Armstrong) is also deeply weird, but it surprisingly works.
  10:41am
Doug Schulkind:

I first heard that Louis Armstrong cover on the radio in around 1980 and began searching for it. When I moved to NYC in’83, I would go into record stores and ask the clerks in the jazz section about it and most had never heard of it. I will never forget the employee at J&R Music World who literally laughed at me thinking I had made it up.

I'm concerned for my music files. Why would a song that looks to be complete (in file explorer, say) only be 50-odd seconds long when dragged into my music player?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:28am
coelacanth∅:

that's bad. did that happen with more than one song?

Ahhh, forgot Louis Armstrong had 2 birthdays (July 4 and August 4). That means WKCR will be playing Armstrong exclusively for 24 hours. Something to check out later, as I brave traffic to Brooklyn.

@coel: yeah, it happens now and again. I'm fearing there's a certain amount of corruption?

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am
Jeff Golick:

Thanks @doc, and thanks, @hyde. What would one use to identify the "md5 signature thing?"
  11:47am

Louis Armstrong celebrated his 71st birthday and died a few weeks later at the age of 69. (Or some such ages.) Heard from Phil Schaap.

Avatar 🦀 11:51am

@JG an md5 signature is basically just a hash value that acts as a fingerprint for a file. there are assorted programs that can generate them, or there's online places that can also do it. you create a hash for the file, and then check the signature on the file after transfer. if they don't match, something went wrong...
Avatar 🦀 11:52am
