This is where all of culture and all of time are collapsed into one seductive portal and viewed through the panoramic lens of the exotic. Come and embark on an armchair-travel virtual-voyage to the heart of timeless darkness and beyond; embrace the numinous monolith of the exotic immensity. Let us find that place where hybridization meets its destiny as pure fantasy. Let us become observers observing those others who are ourselves. You wear your mask and I'll wear mine.

Avatar 7:01pm Flash Strap:

tonight's show has 4 sets, each one employing a randomly selected word from the writings of Georges Bataille (from Absence of Myth, a collection of his writings on Surrealism specifically) as a catalyst. The set unspools from that point using word associations in the song title to explore (obliquely) themes and fetishes related to Surrealism as Bataille conceived it
Avatar 7:03pm Flash Strap:

should be fun, weird

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:44pm chresti:

Avatar 7:44pm Flash Strap:

as picasso said about being a communist: " i have joined a family, and like any family, it is full of shit"

people sometimes take the internecine struggles of the surrealists to demonstrate that they were absurd idealists; in fact it shows how serious they were, in their prime, about reordering the world
Avatar 7:47pm Flash Strap:

@Chresti: Lucky Dragons are pretty great!
Avatar 7:48pm Flash Strap:

@Franco; pie sounds nice. what type of pie?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:49pm chresti:

crazy as that world was! Being required to be serious is/was a deal breaker for some
Avatar 7:49pm Flash Strap:

This Hannibal Marvin Peterson record is really solid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Story of Picasso stamping bulls on currency (stop & consider the Mythology of that for a second)
- & a friend said - that's illegal defacing currency
- & Picasso said - in any county in the world - that's now worth $2000 (or whatever it was) !!
...Printed his own money, that Communist did...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Was just thinking today how everyone wants to be the Trane Quartet
- & how 101% good I am w/ it...
Avatar 7:50pm Flash Strap:

i don't mean they required seriousness, rather that they weren't essentially frivolous. Ernst is one of the most playful artists of all time, imo
Avatar 7:51pm Franco Twinkie:

Peach. iI bought a lug of Summer Ladies. I gotta do something with them before they go off.

Avatar 7:55pm Franco Twinkie:

I wish we could get together for a pie night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

The Surrealists certainly succeeded in changing how Society pictures things...I think Artaud was probably right that what we need more is Theatre & Ceremony - Activity w/ Peoples...All Artists are children of the Shaman, I like to think...
Avatar 7:56pm Flash Strap:

me too
Avatar 7:58pm still b/p:

Or a pie-night double header.
Avatar 7:58pm Flash Strap:

@revrab: wish it were so – so many artists, i often feel, are essentially propagandists for the existing power structure. but the "specialists in revolt" are out there in that number as well

Eno sez he saved Art Decade from the rejected pile of material for Low. Worked it some more, then a reinterested Bowie worked it more.
Avatar 8:55pm Flash Strap:

i read as much as well: bowiesongs.wordpress.com...
  8:55pm Dean:

Judging from the way it's cutting out--it isn't skipping to the GTD stream--I think you're right.
Avatar 8:55pm Flash Strap:

it does sound a lot like Eno material of the period
Avatar 8:57pm TDK60:

Darnit, late again-- for Alice C., H. Partch, K. Ayers. Well at least I jumped on a bit.
Avatar 9:00pm Flash Strap:

It's criminally underrated imo. NOT just a novelty LP
Avatar 9:06pm Flash Strap:

@TDK: i need to learn more about Fourier
Avatar 9:07pm Little Danny:

Yeah, I'd seen the cover before but had no idea it was so out and trippy
...and nice segue into Tomita
Avatar 9:07pm TDK60:

Me too; Bataille, on and on...
Avatar 9:08pm Flash Strap:

it's really out, but it's also about as accessible as Louis and Bebe Barron get
