Bodega Time! Hi Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:01pm Gary:

Tim! How's it going?
Avatar 7:03pm tim abdellah:

Pretty good - work is busy, but my A's are playing well, so everything is a little brighter :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:07pm Gary:

I remember the A's!
Avatar 7:07pm northguineahills:

I feel sorry for whomever has to climb the staircase naming all of the genres of music I have. I'd rather climb Jacob's ladder....
Avatar 7:08pm hyde:

hellllloooooooo
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

Haha ... hey there, NGH!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:08pm Gary:

Hyde! How you hangin?
Avatar 7:11pm northguineahills:

I've found it hard to find Tamil music, A certain tiger insurgency south of India might be responsible...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Gary:

I found a cache of them at this one place in JH and just started hoarding them. Then, like nearly every other place in the neighborhood, it closed
Avatar 7:12pm hyde:

things are good. digesting some ramen, having a bourbon and listening to the tunes. a nice night.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:12pm Gary:

Ramen!
Avatar 7:13pm northguineahills:

All praise our lord, FSM, ramen!
Avatar 7:14pm tim abdellah:

Mmmm... ramen!
Avatar 7:17pm hyde:

the place i went does a chicken broth ramen, really good
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:18pm Gary:

Oh, that's not that common! I haven't found a really good chx raman in NYC yet
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm melinda:

hi all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Gary:

Melinda!
Avatar 7:22pm hyde:

@Gary yeah, the chef here is good. the place is shutting down Friday or a couple weeks because he's going back to Japan to do some work on his ramen (this may just be code for visiting relatives, i admit)
Avatar 7:23pm hyde:

yay, melinda!
Avatar 7:23pm northguineahills:

El general!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Gary:

"... to work on his ramen ..." [thumbs up icon]
Avatar 7:23pm tim abdellah:

@hyde - LOL!!
Avatar 7:28pm northguineahills:

I just so happen to be going through my cumbia compilation section while in my car. This might last a few weeks....
Avatar 7:30pm northguineahills:

El "Hen-e-ral!" :)
Avatar 7:49pm tim abdellah:

This is gorgeous!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Gary:

The really amazing Tibetan stuff I have is all VCDs and I need to find a program to rip them!
Avatar 7:54pm tim abdellah:

It's been a while since I used a VCD. Don't they work like CD-ROMs - I think if you put them in a computer, you'll see a folder containing a video file or files. You can just pull the file onto your desktop. Then use some video/audio program to extract the audio from the file. I think free programs like FLV Crunch can do stuff like that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:55pm Gary:

FLV Crunch -- I'll track it down. Thanks, Tim!
Avatar 8:03pm hyde:

VLC player used to open VCD's. not sure if it still does
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:04pm Gary:

Ah, thank you, Hyde! I'll look into that one, too
Avatar 8:06pm northguineahills:

back home. garden looks good, might purchase some ladybugs.

(Got my Radio Blau swag from David before my wfmu swag! email him, it's good stuff, all it takes is emailing him).
Avatar 8:07pm tim abdellah:

@hyde - VLC probably does. But I think Gary wants to convert the video files to audio files. Don't know if it has that functionality.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Gary:

Although, if I could at least open them, then I could play them on this computer and record them with Audacity in my other computer (as I'm doing with this show right now) ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Gary:

Radio Blau swag!
Avatar 8:10pm hyde:

@tim you're probably right. i tend to expect VLC to do everything, heh
Avatar 8:13pm tim abdellah:

@Gary - Ah you could record into Audacity, but then you'd be re-digitizing the audio, so you'd lose audio quality. It would be better if you can directly extract the existing digital audio from the video file without re-recording.

@Hyde - I know! VLC is great!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm chresti:

heylooo!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Gary:

Chresti!
Avatar 8:15pm hyde:

have i ever mentioned that i love Asha Bhosle
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:18pm Gary:

Someone stop me from telling my "I saw Asha live at Carnegie Hall!" story for the [how high does this calculator go up to?] time
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:19pm chresti:

do tell!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:21pm Gary:

Haha, that's pretty much the story! I saw her perform at Carnegie Hall about 10-15 years ago, and she was great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:22pm chresti:

the great thing about losing memory is hearing great stories more than once
Avatar 8:24pm tim abdellah:

@chresti - true dat!
@gary - what sort of band/orchestra backed her up?
Avatar 8:25pm hyde:

@Gary i get jealouser every time i hear that story
Avatar 8:25pm northguineahills:

I think it was last week when chresti was telling a great story about the great thing abou losing memory is great stories more then onece....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:26pm Gary:

Gosh ... speaking of losing memory ... well, think it was a pretty big / diverse band, including western and Indian instruments, but honestly I don't remember actually seeing the band at all, just Asha. And being amazed because she was, I dunno, 70-something? And belting out Dum Maro Dum (up next, btw)
Avatar 8:27pm tim abdellah:

@Gary - BTW, thanks for the Brigitte Fontaine & Areski Belkacem - that was fantastic!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:27pm chresti:

I'd love to see the dance scene for one two cha cha cha
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:28pm Gary:

Oh, of course, Tim! Happy to pass things along! Chresti, click here: www.youtube.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm chresti:

ngh- someone else that said that, I have proof because I have no memory of saying ...whatever it was
Avatar 8:30pm hyde:

i KNOW i've mentioned how much i love this movie before!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:31pm Gary:

This movie does rock
Avatar 8:32pm northguineahills:

Woodside is SSE of you, Gary
Avatar 8:34pm northguineahills:

The City of NYC refuses to officially designate the borders of NYC neigborhoods, b/c some people on the same block want to belong to one neighborood, others another (think demographic implications).
Avatar 8:35pm northguineahills:

(The aforementioned issue, was a PITA for those of us trying to map the City.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:35pm chresti:

Gary, there are many shows that I saw in the 70s and 80s that I have scant memory of
Avatar 8:36pm hyde:

Shalimar is the weird Bollywood/Hollywood mashup movie that has Rex Harrison and Sylvia Miles and John Saxon (!)
Avatar 8:39pm northguineahills:

Yes, Gary, I've triangulated your position ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:40pm Gary:

Haha ... thanks, NGH! ... and OMG, Hyde, now I gotta see it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:43pm chresti:

THANKS for the link Gary!

unidentified culinary delight...looks like a strawberry smoothie with pieces of pistachio and almond in it. (which would render it not very "smooth")
  9:49pm Funky16corners:

Not a problem. I can understand if people expect unremitting savagery. I’m just not ready to deliver.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:50pm Gary:

We want savagery and we want it now! Hi, Sig!
