Hey Gary!

Just found an article that showed an Indiana white supremacist works at a tattoo parlor w/in 500 m of my parents (they live in a gated community). He randomly shot an African-American HS girl in a drive-by and was also jailed for pederasty. Apparently there are a next of Nazis in my hometown. I saw a few unsavory characters when there recently, but I just assumed they were just ignorant rednecks that I was used to as a youth, not full blown Nazis.

Yeah, it was outside Bloomingdale.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:10pm Funky16Corners:

Oh. when you mentioned Indiana...now Florida...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:10pm northguineahills:

Yeah, the Indiana Klan actually included Catholics in the 20s, something unheard of in the South. They ran IN for a good 8 years.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:11pm northguineahills:

The guy was from IN, shot the girl near Bloomingdale, served 11 of 30 years in the IN State Penitentiary, and when he got out, moved to FL.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:14pm Funky16Corners:

Because Florida is the storm drain of the nation?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:15pm Funky16Corners:

And I only say that as someone aware that half the state is refugees from NJ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:16pm northguineahills:

Yep, I'm luckier then a Jack of Diamonds to find a cultural oasis in the middle of derp. It's about more liberal here then Brooklyn.

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:23pm Funky16Corners:

Hey Jeff! It is available in US and Canadian pressings (the one I have). Not terrible expensive.

Some Gordon Staples stuff is included on the Complete Motown Singles comps.

Nothing tonight, but lots of Project 3/Command stuff
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:41pm Funky16Corners:

I hope you'll be pleased and surprised by some of the selections!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:41pm Parq:

No doubt I will.

Everyone strap on your vinyl go go boots!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:48pm Funky16Corners:

I always stop to look at that stuff, especially is there are some unusual covers
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:48pm Uncle Michael:

As with many Command LPs, I boght it for the cover.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:49pm Funky16Corners:

Yeah, Enoch Light had a banging art department
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 10:49pm Uncle Michael:

Now if I'm going to stage a number I can't decide whether to use Pow Pow or Di Gue Ding Ding.
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:00pm Jeff Ash:

Doc Severinsen was really the first concert I ever saw. Summer of 1973 at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis, I think.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:00pm Funky16Corners:

There are some cool vintage French TV videos of dance numbers staged to some of the Michel Legrand tracks
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:00pm Funky16Corners:

@Jeff - Did he do Soul Makossa??
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:02pm Jeff Ash:

No idea. I remember almost nothing about the show other than it was hotter than hell in there and his grapefruit-colored silk shirt was soaked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:04pm northguineahills:

Yeah, I found Enoch Light via the album covers.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:09pm Funky16Corners:

I was lucky enough to have a local record store years ago that had a huge stash of Project 3 and Command albums (may of which I bought)
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:09pm northguineahills:

This movie is so much fun w/ Peter Sellers (even w/ brown face), and this sndrk is sampled very often.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:09pm Funky16Corners:

And 'Birdie num nums..."
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:10pm Funky16Corners:

My copy of this record (and two others by the maestro) came from the Mancini estate
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:14pm Parq:

"Don't make waves-- male love!" I can remember hearing ads on the radio for that movie.
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:15pm still b/p:

Sellers complications....I was just explaining to someone tonight how I was mistaken in telling him his wigged look for a historical piece of production made him look like Sellers in Magic Christian. But that wasn't it -- all wrong. My mental image was instead a conflated recall of his long-hair looks from What's New Pussycat and I Love You Alice B. Toklas.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:15pm Funky16Corners:

I think that's the same wig!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:17pm Parq:

Sellers in his brown-face, eastern-accent guise is what the TV Tropes people call value dissonance. It made all kinds of sense at the time. I offer that as an explnation, not as a defense.
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:17pm Jeff Ash:

Didn't have the playlist page up, but heard the latest cuts and thought it sounded like Vic Mizzy. Lo and behold! Should I be worried that I recognize Vic Mizzy on the fly?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:18pm Parq:

... "explanation",sorry. I hit post when I meant to hit edit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:18pm Funky16Corners:

Not at all! If you watched TV from the 1960s he's ingrained into the sound!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:19pm Parq:

I'm on my fourth glass of wine.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:19pm Funky16Corners:

I had to explain that dilemma to my sons, who both love the movie Short Circuit which contains one of the most offensive pieces of brownface ever
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:21pm still b/p:

Toklas/Pussycat... same wig that showed up a lot in 60s flicks and TV when some youngsters were supposed to look Beatley/British Invasiony.

In the current cultural moment, Sellers couldn't do the South Asian thing without trouble, but there still probably wouldn't be much upset, if any, about a Strangelove-style nationality shtick.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:22pm Funky16Corners:

I prefer Sellers as the nebbish in Toklas. I love that movie, from the Twin Cantors, to the pot brownies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:23pm northguineahills:

Hey, I like kites!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:24pm Funky16Corners:

I'm jumping in about 10 mins, thanks Larry!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:27pm Funky16Corners:

Thanks NGH! Have a good night!
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:27pm still b/p:

I think night-kiting -- with thin glow-sticks and super-mini LEDs figuring into the kite construction -- should be a thing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:28pm Funky16Corners:

Except it would likely result in an epidemic of broken legs
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:29pm coelacanth∅:

we never flew kites, but my aunt gave us a long box-kite she scored from "red china" (we still don't know how she got into all those forbidden countries back then) but none of us ever tried to fly it. then it disappeared.

The Moody Blues?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:30pm Funky16Corners:

@C - I used to love box kites, the poor neglected cousin of the kite family
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:31pm Funky16Corners:

Kind of the connoisseur's choice
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:33pm still b/p:

Yah MB.

"Warning: Prairie dog colony area -- No Night Kiting!"

From a Martha's Vineyard beach 43 years ago (no prairie dogs) on a good brisk wind day in April, we flew tandem kites. Get one way up and out, attach another to that line and send it up. It worked -- was based on something I saw someone pull off in a comic book.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:33pm Funky16Corners:

That sounds cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:34pm Parq:

Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:34pm Funky16Corners:

If only we spent more time doing things we saw in comic books
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:34pm coelacanth∅:

yeah, one day when i was probably like 17 years old i decided my friends and i should try to fly that thing, but it was gone.
when i was little my parents never got us into things like kites and skates. i had to demand to be taught to ride a bicycle when i was 7.

Nite Parq!
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:36pm still b/p:

When it was time to leave, we just set 'em free. Don't know if they came down on Jackie O's expansive property nearby, dropped in Nantucket Sound or Buzzards Bay, or cruised all the way to the Canadian Maritimes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:36pm coelacanth∅:

enjoy twilight zone. i'm a little envious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:42pm coelacanth∅:

i have a few of those Enoch Light 35mm albums. they sound quite bright and the stereo separation is almost "extreme", but i never thought there was anything about them that couldn't have been accomplished via equalization.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:43pm Funky16Corners:

I think you're right, but those records do sound great
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:44pm coelacanth∅:

definitely.
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:44pm Jeff Ash:

Just as you love Soul Makossa covers, I love Theme From Shaft covers. Don't have this one, though.
Avatar Wed. 11/15/17 11:45pm still b/p:

Some people around here make and fly fantastic giant kite designs and figures by the harbor.

What else was Bond St. used in....seems like heard it as incidental show music or bg music for sketches with no spoken lines...?

Heard a clip today with Tony Bennet talking about Pearl Bailey punching a girl in the on-stage ensemble -- knocked her out -- when she was mouthing off and getting personal in ragging about Pearl, I think during a rehearsal.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:45pm Funky16Corners:

Bond Street is from Casino Royale. I don't know of it being used anywhere else. I believe Pearl Bailey could/would knock someone on their ass
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/15/17 11:46pm Funky16Corners:
