Ridgewood Radio features concert recordings by adventurous bands and experimental musicians and restored archival tapes from private and institutional collections captured at venues large and small across the five boroughs of New York. It is produced by David Weinstein and Outpost Artists Resources operating out of the Ridgewood section of Queens, NY, where you'll find more yellow bricks than on the road to Oz and the cemetery of your choice is never more than a few blocks from home.

A show focused on duos where they either merge in one-ness or wildly compete for time and space. Enjoy!

Afternoon, Ridgewood folks and all!

Good afternoon David Ruth and Ridgewood people

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

I swear it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:08pm
fred:

@Kenzo: I thought of you yesterday at a dance show: the music sometimes layered a recorded percussion track and a small ensemble on stage, loosely related. And there were many instances of cello/violin phrases that evoked The sinking of the Titanic, which reminded me of a specific show

weinstein:

Kenzo might be in the middle of pre-show meditative juggling practice and carbo-loading as he has taken on the mother of all crazy streaming challenges. IMHO
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:18pm
weinstein:

Meantime, hello Fred and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
fred:

Well, he is the father of all crazy streaming challenges
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm

And thanks all for all the nice comments about last week with Shelley Hirsch. She surprised a lot of people with the work we played. Not just improv stuff.

Have I heard this one before??

Only because you were there!

A good reason, if ever there was one!

listener james from westwood:

Ooh, this Bassett/Lubelski is great.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:06pm
fred:

There was video too? This works very well without it
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:12pm
weinstein:

Weisblat has this rig with slide projectors that fade and into and out of each other. Very hand made.

Kenzo (Ken's Last Ever):

@fred: Thanks. I can picture the show of mine you mean.

@James: Bassett/Lubelski have a new release. I saw the vinyl.

I'm enjoying this of course: if it's a drone, they're playing my song.

I think there's a series of events going on over at LongPlayer today, since it's the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. I think Vicki is attending.

Liking this Gladden set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:33pm

The New York scene always had Niblock's marathon on the solstice. Where is he this year? And Charlie Morrow balancing eggs with New Wilderness folks. Its a good day to be weird.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:34pm
weinstein:

@ D'jazz: it changes so slowly, but it is radically different at beginning and end.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:36pm
Webhamster Henry:

Good, because Harry Bertoia deserves a whole day. Have you ever been to the Bertoia Barn, Ridgewooders?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:38pm
weinstein:

No, and that whole barn story fascinates me! Encourage everyone to Google the Bertoia Sonambient Barn. Amazing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:39pm
Webhamster Henry:

I was there about 12 years ago; go interview Val Bertoia, he's extremely nice!

My sister was wondering where Niblock was this year too. I think he's in Italy?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42pm
weinstein:

Traveling no doubt. He's having the time of his life! And thanks for backing me up on Bertoia, it is a chapter of great creativity and wonder...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:43pm
Webhamster Henry:

Not exactly Bertoia, but one of his gongs is used by the group Secret Gong Orchestra, which is playing a show called Red Kachina in Rosendale's Widow Jane Mine on August 6th.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47pm
weinstein:

Is that super unique? That one of his original instruments is in use outside of his own estate? I know they sell stuff on his site, coming from, I guess, his designs but not his hands.
