Postwar atmospherica. High bop modernism and Afro-Latin sounds, twilight exotica and soundtrack moods, soul stompers and weepers, hypnotic R&B and blues, mystical '60s pop, lonely country, lonelier rock 'n' roll, instrumental weirdness, electronic creaking. Bringing worlds beyond into the worlds at hand.

Greetings Scraps! How ya holdin' up?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:04pm Doug Schulkind:

Jerry Goldsmith, a master craftsman.

Little Danny, a crafty master, man.
Avatar 10:04pm Little Danny:

and greetings to all curiosity seekers gathered about this evening/afternoon/morning!
Avatar 10:04pm coelacanth∅:

greetings Lil D & Lil Flames
Avatar 10:07pm coelacanth∅:

i don't seek curiosity. it finds me, and gets me into trouble.
Avatar 10:07pm Little Danny:

Doug and Coel! my friends! Welcome!
Avatar 10:08pm Little Danny:

That sounds like an opening line of a pulp-y paperback Coel
Avatar 10:09pm hyde:

whoa, this is killer
Avatar 10:10pm coelacanth∅:

i'm not sure i can effect my voice appropriately. can we get Johnny Cash to play the part?
...i guess not.
Avatar 10:10pm Little Danny:

Hi Hyde, glad you're diggin' it!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:11pm Doug Schulkind:

The Sound Offs. 8,000,000 members of other bands out there are slapping their heads. Why didn't WE think of that!
Avatar 10:11pm coelacanth∅:

i mean, there will be a film adaptation, right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm Scraps:

actually, Little Danny, last night I had dental trouble, and i'm going to have to see a dentist, sigh. a piece of the tooth fell off, and while it doesn't hurt, the rest of the tooth is sharp, and chewing/drinking i have to be very careful. ANYway....

Avatar 10:14pm Little Danny:

Ah, Scraps, sorry hear - hope this show'll have some analgesic properties for ya
Avatar 10:14pm Flash Strap:

Whole set is TNT LD
Avatar 10:17pm Little Danny:

My man, thank you!
Avatar 10:22pm Little Danny:

Goddammit I keep picking out songs less than 2 minutes long. Scramble!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:24pm Doug Schulkind:

Sounds like you could use a Deejay's Buddy®, Little Danny!
Avatar 10:26pm Little Danny:

I would love some drugs, thank you Doug!
Avatar 10:26pm Little Danny:

Wait that's what you're talmbout right?
Avatar 10:27pm Little Danny:

Also, Doug: do you happen to know the canonical pronunciation of Gil Melle before I embarrass myself?
Avatar 10:28pm hyde:

bedtime. bye.
Avatar 10:30pm coelacanth∅:

good night hyde
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33pm Doug Schulkind:

I've always just said it like Gill (hard g) Mell
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:34pm Doug Schulkind:

Ha! He trusted me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:35pm Doug Schulkind:

It's pronounced Mook Sertuss.
Avatar 10:38pm coelacanth∅:

Gil is short for Gilbert, so it's hard-g Gil; and his name is spelled with an accent over the second e, so it's 2 syllables. (don't know if it's an "a" or an "e" sound in the first syllable.)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm doctorjazz:

Hi All?! Hang for a bit?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm Doug Schulkind:

See, you shouldn't have trusted me. This website (which I trust) says Melle is pronounced: mell-AY bit.ly...
Avatar 10:43pm hyde:

i said i was leaving, but i didn't
Avatar 10:44pm Little Danny:

Doctorjazz! Hello! Join us!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm Scraps:

I tried three or four Axelrod albums twenty years or so ago, and I wasn't impressed. Now I'm hearing lots of Axelrod, and I admit he's better than I thought, but I still can't see Axelrod as visionary. You know, that's my loss, I know.
Avatar 10:44pm Little Danny:

@hyde this bring me great pleasure to hear!
Avatar 10:46pm coelacanth∅:

i didn't say i was leaving and didn't. that's similar.
Avatar 10:46pm Little Danny:

@Scraps: visionary is a strong word. Even as I spoke it I knew it was a bit extravagent. What's one or two steps below "visionary"?
Avatar 10:47pm hyde:

@LD i'm a sucker for Bollywood tracks!
Avatar 10:48pm Little Danny:

Oh man me too. My Bollywood record section is getting out of hand, I am basically helpless if I see 'em cheap (and they usually are)
  10:50pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Hi Danny & all, missed the first 40 min, as its afternoon down here and just got in, beautiful sunny day, perfect weather for Bollywood! looks like its ben a great show so far, will listen back to it latter, when it goes up
  10:51pm Doctorjazz:

I really like this Bollywood stuff add well, and I have none of it at home. something new to shop for, this track is great, raga meets hoedown.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:52pm Alex In Illinois:

How many different first names have you seen paired with the last name "Axelrod"? I have only heard of various different men all named "David Axelrod", but never a "Paul Axelrod" or "Bernard Axelrod", or even any female name, like "Mary Axelrod" or "Karen Axelrod".
Avatar 10:53pm hyde:

ok, friends. really leaving now. good rest of show!
Avatar 10:54pm coelacanth∅:

a'right. 'night!
Avatar 10:55pm Little Danny:

Sorry about the dropout, folks. It was our cat on the streaming laptop. He sensed that my attention wasn't fully on him and wanted to teach me a lesson
Avatar 10:56pm coelacanth∅:

Alex you're onto something. there's at least 3 famous david axelrods and...
i do think there's another famous axelrod (besides the sour creme) just one, i think female...
Avatar 10:57pm Little Danny:

Wow, I never woulda thought of that Alex. But you're right. Also, hello!
Avatar 11:04pm Little Danny:

Pete, my man! Nice to see ya here/hear
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm Scraps:

almost a library groove...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:09pm JtotheK:

hi everyone.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:11pm Scraps:

yep, that's awful!
Avatar 11:11pm coelacanth∅:

hey J-K
Avatar 11:14pm Little Danny:

Hi Jason!
  11:19pm Doctorjazz:

thanks for the fine car company, time to go.
  11:20pm MrFab:

Hey Flamers! (if you'll pardon the expression)

Are you a native Texan, Danny? Cuz you have no accent. Or are Texans losing their accent, like New Yorkers?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:20pm Scraps:

I really like Quintet/Sextet. My edition has Miles Davis and Milt Jackson on the cover
Avatar 11:21pm coelacanth∅:

g,night dr.j
Avatar 11:21pm Little Danny:

Reluctantly bidding you adieu, doctorjazz. Thanks for being here!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:22pm Scraps:

I had a girlfriend who grew up in Austin, and she didn't have a Texas accent, not much
Avatar 11:22pm Little Danny:

MrFab, I'm a native central Pennsylvanian, and I have a bare wisp of the gnarly PA accent (which includes the Philly accent)
Avatar 11:23pm Little Danny:

Scraps, it's actually one of my fave Miles LPs period. Anytime Miles and Milt play together I'm all in
  11:27pm Doctorjazz:

this Billy Higgins is wild, not how I think of him.
  11:29pm MrFab:

I saw Higgins play with Pharaoh Sanders. Big grin on his face the whole time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Doug Schulkind:

Smiling Billy Higgins. Maybe the most apt nickname ever.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm Doug Schulkind:

That and Tiny Archibald.
  11:34pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Nice Champion jack Dupree track, man he did a ton of great stuff, and dunno whos on guitar, Mickey baker? or too tasteful for Mickey maybe
Avatar 11:36pm Little Danny:

According to the Internet it was indeed Baker. Nice spot, Pete!
  11:37pm Doctorjazz:

Mojo Working as a 7 inch? wow!
(Danny, darn you, you're making it really hard to go...)
  11:39pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Mickey baker, that makes sense, man what a character & BS artist he was, Mickey and Silvia,of Love is Strange, fame, apparently Sylvia Vanderbilt couldnt stand him!
  11:41pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Sylvia Vanderpool!! Woops
  11:41pm MrFab:

And there goes the stream again. that darn cat!
  11:42pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Yep come on Fluffy, off the laptop!!
Avatar 11:45pm Little Danny:

Ha, that actually wasn't the cat that time, it was some ghost in the machine
  11:51pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Lovely Robert Drasnin track, got that Voodoo 2 album, some place, loverly dreamy exotica, but recorded in relatively recent times if I remember?
Avatar 11:52pm Little Danny:

@Doctorjazz: so stoked I convinced you to stick around!
Avatar 11:53pm Little Danny:

Yeah, Pete - that's right, though I haven't actually heard that recent-ish album you refer to
  11:54pm David K:

I Love that Drasnin record. 1959
  11:54pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

Believe it was a recent recreation of Voodoo, must check into that, great LP what ever
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:55pm JtotheK:

Re: Axelrod conversation...was (starting to) re-read the WaxPo interviews. Skipped to the album covers pics -- saw Arthur Lyman Taboo vol 2. And my internet research finds that Axelrod produced that LP. Gonna have to give it another spin.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm JtotheK:

b/w -- enjoyed the show, thanks Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:57pm Scraps:

Thank you, Danny.

Thanks, everybody.
  11:57pm Pete from Melbourne Austraila:

wow Axelrod & Lyman!!!
And yep great show again Danny, the bit I heard, will give it all another listen when it goes up in a day or two. Night/Arvo all
Avatar 11:58pm Little Danny:

David K, hello to you sir!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:59pm Doug Schulkind:

That Dakar was superb. Like some real musicians got ahold of the charts to the Daktari theme music and played the hell out of it. (Not to say that real musicians weren't smoking that Daktari theme music.)
  12:00am David K:

Thanks for the great groove, little danny. right on
Avatar 12:02am coelacanth∅:

Thanks Danny!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04am Doug Schulkind:

Bed?! Once you finish, I begin planning my show!
Avatar 12:06am Little Danny:

G'night all, and thanks again!
Avatar 12:06am Little Danny:

Doug, you are my radio hero. See ya tomorrow!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:08am Doug Schulkind:

Sleep tight, LD!
