Hello all. If you want to read along, the Weissenbrunner article on turntables is: econtact.ca...

Dean:

The turntable article mentions Ernst Toch and his relatively famous (and really fun) Geographical Fugue. One of my buddies is Toch's grandson.

That is cool. Maybe he has some rare stuff we have not heard?

Dean:

My buddy is, perhaps ironically, not much interested in his grandfather's music. But his brother, a writer of some renown, is quite the fan of their grandfather's legacy: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1996/12/my-grandfathers-last-tale/376730/

My old group did a realization of the Schaeffer piece at the Kitchen back in 2005(?). Haven't heard the original in quite a while....

Thank you for this. Will definitely look into Toch.

Tricky to re-create the Schaefer. Did you disassemble the original samples or hike out to the rail yards with a recorder?
Avatar 2:55pm
northguineahills:

Took apart the samples, and my band-mate had some recordings of trains he made out in France...

Sounds like it could be updated Carl Stalling, waiting for the "wabbit"

(The Marclay, that is...)
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 3:32pm

Marclay, like Zorn, had a little bit of Stalling in his formative DNA.
