Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:33am Uncle Michael:

I'm pretty sure the toggling of the animation will fail and the image will re-animate each time the playlist is updated or you post a comment...but we'll see.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:46am Doug Schulkind:

It's working for me.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:50am Uncle Michael:

I think it will reanimate for you each time I add to the playlist.

In other news, giant birds spotted in city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:01pm Sweet Corn Lizzie:

Just wanted you to know that "Leaving the Straight Life Behind" has been playing in my head 24/7 since last week. I hope this week's show will flush it out.
Avatar 12:01pm ndbob:

afternoon UM and everyone!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:02pm Alex In Illinois:

Giant Gulls! Just think how much trash one of those could clean up! Wait-a-minute, if it eats a lot that means that is also . . . ohh ... never mind. No, that won't make the city cleaner at all.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:04pm Stanley:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:06pm Alex In Illinois:

I have not seen anything wrong with the gif's behavior. It keeps cycling as usually, and the playlist was updated.

Weird, but true: there's a Genesis song about pigeons that begins with the lyric, "Who put fifty tons of shit on the Foreign Office roof?"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:13pm doctorjazz:

So, in case anyone HAS to know, on my computer the toggle works and stays put after new comments, but restarts with updates of the playlist. And, I'm not messing with that bird!
  12:14pm Dean:

Ah! You startled me.

Red Norvo, Red Rodney, and Red Mitchell should have combined to do a tribute to Communism.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:14pm Brian in UK:

I fear the newsreaders' head will explode and 'Donald J Trump says' will appear. Be afraid of people who speak in the third person.

There's a lot of high-risk deejay activity happening on today's program.
Avatar 12:42pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Know what? Points for acknowledging (so we know dead air is not our ComCast account come due or something)
...& for not spewing endless nervous self-conscious prattle drawing more attention to the awkwardness & then how awkward *that* is - &tc. &tc. &tc. - as if you were unaware that a bunch of people were actually out here listening. Say no more.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:42pm Alex In Illinois:

I would still much rather listen to this show with all of the pauses than any commercial radio station.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:43pm Rich in Washington:

I was once waiting to do a substitution DJ spot w/a DJ on before me whose show I'd never heard before/didn't know - and he would play one side of a 45, flip it over & cue the other side and play it, really slowly - not at all gracefully. Apparently had been doing this forever.
Avatar 12:43pm hyde:

when you work without a net, sometimes you just hit the sawdust

@Rich in Washington - I accept that as a deejay style choice.

Avatar 12:46pm still b/p:

A performing friend of mine believes in and enforces a philosophy/policy of "just keep going" when error occurs -- quick acknowledgement, if any, and move on. No rigamarole, no silly or abject spotlighting of it, no delay.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Dominick:

I've had not one issue with the 128k stream on iTunes for the last 2 months.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm doctorjazz:

More Fat White Family, please!
  12:48pm frenchee:

I'm enjoying your show, Uncle M! I thought this fat white family song was a Meat Puppets offshoot.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:48pm Uncle Michael:

Is that how I handled it, still b/p?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Alex In Illinois:

I would not even mind any nervous prattle. Of course, if it were me, I would not be able to stop myself from prattling, so I would prattle to the audience like this: " okay .. . almost . ... just a another moment here ... sorry ... oopsydaisy! ... okay here we go everyone!"
Avatar 12:51pm hyde:

@still b/p haha. when i drummed in a lounge band composed mostly of people who couldn't play their instruments, that was the band leader's one direction to me: "no matter what happens, just keep going".
Avatar 12:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@Alex: If you actually gave funny play-by-play, or something (all depends). Sometimes people just dig a hole deeper & deeper, tho'...
Avatar 12:52pm V Priceless:

hey...we got two Dr. Feelgood tunes out of the tech prob...I would consider lobbying for more tech probs if DF was the 'go to' back-up plan. : )
Avatar 12:53pm still b/p:

I say yes, UM, but have to ask her. She also does a DJ shift on community radio and occasionally lets a quiet moment happen as she regroups or straightens out a cue mishap, or asks listeners to talk among themselves.
Avatar 12:55pm Sue P.:

hey @V Priceless - I find that using the streaming links on the actual DJ playlist page seems to work like the old days (as opposed to the links from the homepage which have been glitchy for me sometimes). If that helps at all.
  12:56pm Listener Robert:

What bothers me most of all is how Rich Conaty apparently dumps his flubs on WFUV, straight into his laughing & denigrating a flub we didn't even get to hear.
Avatar 12:57pm V Priceless:

thanks, Sue P. - will try that!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:59pm Uncle Michael:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Rich in Washington:

It ripped right through my childhood hometown, in fact.
Avatar 1:02pm V Priceless:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:50pm Uncle Michael:

What was the class?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm Alex In Illinois:

Electronic Music 101: Analog. Linda Fisher was the teacher. One of the other Students was Alan Licht.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm doctorjazz:

What a great band, Television!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm Uncle Michael:

So is this thing that allows you to stop the animation worth it, considering it doesn't remain frozen...or is it kind of worthless?
Avatar 1:54pm northguineahills:

Wow, Alex!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:58pm Alex In Illinois:

Well, it seems like it can freeze it only at one spot. So, if you want to freeze a gif to try to figure out what is happening at a certain place of your choosing, then it can't help you.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:00pm Uncle Michael:

It actually is swapping a still for the animation. This page has to frequently reload. I'm not sure this is the best solution.
Avatar 2:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

You want a GIF cost/benefit analysis? I haven't been available to hear any on-air discussion until just now. What's the problem to which it's a solution?

Ah, the risk of distraction or nausea. You could swap default states, static by default, animated on toggle. Then listeners who want the animation will have to reactivate it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:17pm Uncle Michael:

Dean, that's what it does right now. The problem is the continual refreshing of the playlist page. It reverts back to the original state each refresh.
  2:19pm Dean:

Right, but make the original state the static jpg. Make animation fans work for the action.
  2:22pm Dean:

I think the script would look like this:

<img id="jpg" onclick="swapImage('jpg',

Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:23pm Doug Schulkind:
