Visited six northern NJ supermarkets looking for Tapatio hot sauce, none of them had it. Go one town over and find it. Where? A BODEGA. The intro does not lie: Bodegas are our friend.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:00pm Gary:

LOL, that's a great story, James

Hi, Bob
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:01pm listener james from westwood:

And I did try our town bodega, a little shop mere walking distance from my place that has lottery tix and a bevy of Mexican products. No deal. Then I remembered this other hole in the wall around the corner from a similarly teeny Mexican restaurant. Boom.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:02pm Gary:

... and RevRab
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:02pm Gary:

We've got a couple of really terrific Mexican bodegas on Broadway here in Astoria that have extremely unfindable-elsewhere items
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/18/15 7:03pm Carmichael:

Yes RevRab, click the daylights out of this episode.

That Roky documentary from a few years back ... wow.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:12pm Gary:

Steve! And, yeah, James, that was actually my introduction to him & his music
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:16pm Rich in Washington:

One of my earliest memories of liking strange music was hearing 13th Floor Elevators' Fire Engine on the radio as a wee lad.
I am mighty excited about this show, Gary!
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:17pm Gary:

Howdy, Rich -- might happy to see you!
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:19pm Rich in Washington:

by weird coincidence, this track - and the song I just mentioned, Fire Engine, were among the first ever songs I ever downloaded off of Napster.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:19pm glenn:

it really wasn't that strange, except for the electric jug, which is just downright bizarre.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:22pm Gary:

Napster -- saw such a great documentary about Napster earlier this year
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/18/15 7:23pm Carmichael:

This sounds like Thin Lizzy ...
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:24pm Rich in Washington:

I wanna see it! What a surreal time. With dial up. It was like ice-fishing.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:24pm ndbob:

I remember hearing the Elevators in my high school folk music club
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:25pm Gary:

Rich, it's called "Downloaded," and I saw it on Netflix, and I'm pretty sure you can find it on YouTube at this point
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

I just snagged it on Archive.org. Will watch it tonight. Thanks, Gary!
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:26pm Rich in Washington:

All three of tonight's featured artists have great documentaries.
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/18/15 7:27pm cklequ:

That Jandek documentary was my first introduction to him. One of the big selling points in that film seemed to be that nobody really knew who he was. And almost as soon as the documentary was released he started playing out.
It sort of killed a little of the mystique.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:28pm Gary:

Cklequ! There's a new documentary coming out soon, I read
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 7:28pm Rich in Washington:

I remember becoming somewhat aware of Jandek via Forced Exposure, just individual album reviews and then heard him on Weirdsville, a really cool, early internet stream.
I just thought it was a joke. I finally got hooked with the song Painted My Teeth.
  Wed. 11/18/15 7:29pm LRSN:

Here for Moby Grape

Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/18/15 8:00pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Roky documentary 'You're Gonna Miss Me' :
www.youtube.com...
- of which I blurbed:
I've read 'Eye Mind' about The 13th Floor Elevators & all - so I was basically aware of these matters - but this film leaves me feeling gutted, & disoriented! Roky is surely one of Rawk's great talents - as both perhaps its' greatest vocalist & as a unique songwriter - & the way his struggle thru Middle Class American dysfunction & institutional terror interweaves thru his artistry is a tale w/ resonance & relevance like no other. A must-see & a heavy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member Wed. 11/18/15 8:01pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Before ZZ Top, Billy Gibbons was in Texas 60sPsych greats 'The Moving Sidewalks'.

@Rev Rab cool, thanks!

Beautiful & haunting

Thanks for sharing the Rokymentary link, RRN63. I need to see that again. Such a sad and scary story. No wonder he wrote songs about vampires!

Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 8:17pm Rich in Washington:

I haven't listened to much Jandek after he entered his live performance era - not because I don't like it - just haven't. I hope his (relative) success and breaking his hermitage hasn't spoiled him too much.
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 8:18pm Gary:

I love the new track we'll be hearing next set, Rich
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/18/15 8:19pm steve:

Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 8:23pm Rich in Washington:

I think Jandek's just been a figment of our imagination..
Avatar Wed. 11/18/15 8:24pm Rich in Washington:

Isn't the Glasgow Sunday a recording of his surprise appearance, his first ever public performance?
Avatar Swag For Life Member    Wed. 11/18/15 8:24pm steve:

Rich, jaw dropping good or jaw dropping bad? i was horrified by a fairly recent live vid of Jandek playing with a white-guy-funk band complete with slap bass.

The Units. ......i think
