  7:59pm
Dean:

For me it wasn't entirely the disco music, per se, that made it so insufferable at the time. It was hard to reconcile my taste for punk, progressive rock, and all manner of classical with disco, true, but the real barrier was the smug little prick assistant manager at the record store where I worked. He put most of us on a playlist quota, but damn if he didn't open and spin every last disco record delivered to the store. And of course he ordered exhaustively.
Avatar 8:00pm
hyde:

sure, i like disco. Chic was the band that changed my mind.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm

Night, Bob!
  8:03pm
Kelley J.:

LOL Dean!
Avatar 8:06pm
Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - most of *this* is a little tangential to Disco, for one thing.
It was a Social divide where I was @ the time -which was *not* the City where it was a Freak Party of Gays & Minorities & hardcore drug abusers. Where I was - it was Disco Jock straights VS. Rock Freaks...& yer Dad wanted to be John Travolta. That was how most people across the Nation related to it, I think. It dominated *all* radio, & *all* Live venues became Discos - for years & years!
...Even then - I could appreciate that some of it was just good Funk or Pop w/ a specific dancey beat...
  8:06pm
Kelley J.:

,sounds like Brazilian BeeGees!
  8:07pm
Dean:

Funny, Kelley, yes, but also painfully true! Worse, the guy had a cocaine problem. And by "had" I mean he is no more. Despite his inadequacies as a manager, he could be a fun guy, and I was sad to hear he'd succumbed.

Sorry for being a Dean Downer, but the partying to death was one defining feature of the scene at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm
Gary:

Great context, RevRab. That was how I experienced it, too -- although, in my case, *I* wanted to be John Travolta. Until a year or two later, when I wanted to be Joe Strummer.
  8:08pm
Kelley J.:

Yea, crazy times. Sorry to hear that Dean.
  8:11pm
Kelley J.:

Gary, you were Tommy Shaw and Tom Petty to me!
