Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:19pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Hey - that's the same Disco strings riff as in the 1970s 'War of the Worlds' Rock Opera by Jeff Wayne...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Gary:

Ha! I'm not surprised to hear that, RevRab :)
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...another example (?) of Bollywood being the original 'samplers' & 'mash-up' artists (in the broadest sense, but still)...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Gary:

Indeed ...
  7:22pm Kelley J.:

the show is great so far! We have it on the great speaker now that Ryan's home!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:23pm northguineahills:

I have a bollywood electro-disco cdr that came as one of two bonus discs for some noise band I got years ago at a show. If I could only remember the the name of the band so I can find it. (the second disc was english fairy tale 45 for Indian children.)
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:23pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues singing - 'the chances of anything coming from Mars - are a million to one they say'...which works for Halloween season...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:24pm Gary:

"My shoes are Japanese, my pants are English, my red hat is Russian, but my heart is Indian ..." -- Meera Jhoota Hai Japani, 1955 ... they're they original postmodernists :)

Avatar 7:47pm hyde:

  7:47pm Kelley J.:

Now she's trying to recreate this song on the piano. It's disco pandemonium right now!
  7:48pm Kelley J.:

Funny, Hyde I just said the same thing to my husband!
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:50pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...that's Disco - nothing but that one beat off the high-hat for seemed like seven years or something...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Gary:

I think I played this next one at your house, Kelley
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 7:51pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...one generation lived thru the Depression & WWII - we had Disco - har har...
Avatar 7:51pm hyde:

@Kelley J. it's spooky all around!
  7:57pm Kelley J.:

You all like disco though right? How can you not, I mean if you lived through the 70s!
Avatar 7:57pm ndbob:

excellent first hour Gary! catch the rest on the archive
  7:58pm Kelley J.:

Stay warm ndbob!
  7:59pm Dean:

For me it wasn't entirely the disco music, per se, that made it so insufferable at the time. It was hard to reconcile my taste for punk, progressive rock, and all manner of classical with disco, true, but the real barrier was the smug little prick assistant manager at the record store where I worked. He put most of us on a playlist quota, but damn if he didn't open and spin every last disco record delivered to the store. And of course he ordered exhaustively.
Avatar 8:00pm hyde:

sure, i like disco. Chic was the band that changed my mind.
  8:01pm Dean:

I like Giorgio Moroder.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:01pm Gary:

Night, Bob!
  8:03pm Kelley J.:

LOL Dean!
Avatar 🇰🇷 Swag For Life Member 8:06pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

Well - most of *this* is a little tangential to Disco, for one thing.
It was a Social divide where I was @ the time -which was *not* the City where it was a Freak Party of Gays & Minorities & hardcore drug abusers. Where I was - it was Disco Jock straights VS. Rock Freaks...& yer Dad wanted to be John Travolta. That was how most people across the Nation related to it, I think. It dominated *all* radio, & *all* Live venues became Discos - for years & years!
...Even then - I could appreciate that some of it was just good Funk or Pop w/ a specific dancey beat...
  8:06pm Kelley J.:

,sounds like Brazilian BeeGees!
  8:07pm Dean:

Funny, Kelley, yes, but also painfully true! Worse, the guy had a cocaine problem. And by "had" I mean he is no more. Despite his inadequacies as a manager, he could be a fun guy, and I was sad to hear he'd succumbed.

Sorry for being a Dean Downer, but the partying to death was one defining feature of the scene at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:08pm Gary:

Great context, RevRab. That was how I experienced it, too -- although, in my case, *I* wanted to be John Travolta. Until a year or two later, when I wanted to be Joe Strummer.
  8:08pm Kelley J.:

Yea, crazy times. Sorry to hear that Dean.
  8:11pm Kelley J.:

Gary, you were Tommy Shaw and Tom Petty to me!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:13pm Gary:

Kelley, a friend who saw one of my high school pictures said Nick Gilder ... he may be right: www.google.com...
Avatar 8:13pm hyde:

^haha, that reminds me of a Minutemen song
  8:14pm Dean:

I loved Nick Gilder! Heard him live at the Whisky.
  8:17pm Kelley J.:

Definitely Nick Gilder! You have many doppelgängers!
  8:19pm Doug Schulkinde:

Good evening, bodegicians!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm northguineahills:

Huh, my wife recognized Plastina Mosh's Human Disco Ball.
  8:24pm Doug Schulkinde:

Out came the (radio) freaks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:30pm Gary:

  8:41pm Kelley J.:

,this might be going through my head incessantly tonight, with a smile on my face of course!
  8:45pm Dean:

That "Lonely, lonely, lonely..." refrain echoes Sutherland Bros. & Quiver from six years prior.
  8:46pm Kelley J.:

I have to sign off now. I will definitely listen to archives for remainder of show. Thanks for the excellent show Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:47pm Gary:

Avatar 8:56pm hyde:

ack, that ADrive thing is tragic. That has killed a couple of music blogs I follow ;(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:05pm Gary:

It's really sad -- the worst part is that they're pretending to allow us to grab our stuff before they jettison us on November 16, but the DL speeds are slow you can't actually get your stuff. They want us all to upgrade. Eff em
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gary:

Pledge Alert! Zack in Brooklyn has put us up to the 95% mark! Thank you, Zack!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:35pm Gary:

  9:36pm Jill B.:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:37pm Gary:

Mom, you already gave! It's by clicking on that thing that says "PLEDGE" in the white box on the left side of the screen. It's by Credit Card
