Really dig Uz Jsme Doma, haven't heard them in a long time.
  7:10pm steve:

hey Gary
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Doug Schulkind:

The bands I really wanna hear most are the one you select for us to hear, Gary!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:10pm Gary:

Hey gang -- accidentally switched the order of the first two cuts ... we're hearing Uz Jsme Doma now
Avatar 7:15pm Jeff:

@Doug - I wasn't second-guessing the DJ, I was responding to the hint offered by Gary's photo choice. I think Opale is who those young French ladies are.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:17pm Doug Schulkind:

Do you know how to change the order of playlist entries? Just insert the Už Jsme Doma entry before the Limiñanas entry and then delete the second Už Jsme Doma entry.

My comment was in no way related to your comment. It was merely and completely celebratory of the imagined wonders to come. And Opale's set on amEdeo's show would be great to re-hear!
Avatar 7:19pm Jeff:

You can tell the Opales have good taste, based on who they chose to hang out with:

  7:20pm Jesse k:

Hi guys watcha doin?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:20pm Gary:

@Doug, no I mean I accidentally played the L's before Uz -- playlist is correct
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:22pm Doug Schulkind:

Sorry, I can't help. I don't know how to spin the earth backwards on its axis to restart things. My bad.

Here's another snap of Opale from that same session, without Ted the Superstar Supreme Being. At least he's not visible to the naked eye: www.facebook.com...
Avatar 7:28pm Jeff:

...and there are some more Opale pix in the same set I linked to above - one forward, and several performance pix (including the one topping this playlist) if you skip backward past BCBG.

Jill, i was also in the garden all day- 'till a few minutes ago; only i was mostly weeding, making a stone border, mulching, and cutting porcelain berry that's choking the trees...so,some killing involved!
...and it's not my garden!

well,i don't know them from paris! maybe that picture has appeared on a wfmu playlist that i happened to've seen.

listener james - i especially miss Bethany's 3-hour show, when she delved more into atonal jazz and such.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:01pm Ike:

Good evening!
Avatar 9:02pm northguineahills:

I had a Brooklyn band play at WFMU live.
  9:04pm doca:

Hi, Gary! Great meta-WFMU show today!
Avatar 9:06pm northguineahills:

It was on OCDJ's show after that unfortunate July 4th WFMU party.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:06pm Gary:

Howdy Ike and Doca!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:07pm Gary:

What band, NGH?
Avatar 9:10pm northguineahills:

It was either under ngh or halley/maynard/smith/mccarthy. It was around 2004ish, and in the archives.
Avatar 9:12pm northguineahills:

Pretty much turntablist/sample/guitar/electronic improv.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:13pm Gary:

Sounds terrific! Shoot us a link!
Avatar 9:16pm coelacanth:

i wonder how ocdj's doing.
Avatar 9:18pm hyde:

i'm here for the second shift
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:19pm Gary:

The Hyde!
Avatar 9:20pm northguineahills:

The googles do nothing!

@coelamth. He was living in a shed at his parent's place in rural Jersey waiting to save money for more eye surgery. He went sailing for awhile, then moved to B-moore. Haven't heard from him since 2010, since I'm terrible at social media.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:20pm listener james from westwood:

This is one helluva Vicki set!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:22pm Gary:

I was pretty sure it was going to be good, but I didn't know it was going to be super-awesome!
Avatar 9:22pm coelacanth:

i don't see oc dj archives in the list...was his show "plug n play" or was that someone else's show?
-my brain's on break.
Avatar 9:23pm hyde:

i confess that i was watching "two days, one night" and then forgot it was wednesday so i listened to dexter gordon for an hour before remembering the show was on. d'oh.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm listener james from westwood:

@ngh: OCDJ was interviewed on this show about 5 months ago: soundcloud.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:24pm listener james from westwood:

@coelacanth, yes indeed, his show was Plug 'n' Play
Avatar 9:27pm northguineahills:

Thanks James. After losing the lawsuit to Ken, he got really w/drawn and reclusive, and most of us whom were friends w/ him, rarely heard anything from outside of secondary sources.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:27pm Ike:

@Coel, hmm, that's peculiar, his archives appear to be gone. Wonder what happened.
Avatar 9:28pm coelacanth:

something fishy is going on.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:29pm Ĩkє:

Aw jeez @NGH, I thought you were joking, but you were not. :(
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:31pm Doug Schulkind:

If Dan's playlists are missing from wfmu.org, I would have to believe that was by his choice.
Avatar 9:32pm coelacanth:

hopefully he requested his archives to be removed, to cut ties- rather than by a childish decision by someone else.
Avatar 9:35pm northguineahills:

@Ike: after losing an eye during a WFMU 4th of July party, two years later, he had to sue Ken to try to get money for surgery to restore his sight. He didn't want to, but he had no insurance. He was in the middle of a lake, rowing, and a m80 fell over and through the worrst luck ever, hit him in his right eye, knocked him out of the boat, and he had to swim to shore w/ his face burning. (for those that don't know the story.).

When I looked for my set last in 2007ish, it was in the archive.

(don't ban me!!)

Since I haven't talked to him in over 5 years, I have no idea if he requested his archive removed or not.
Avatar 9:35pm coelacanth:

yes,Doug- probably. i know someone else who left on not-so-good-terms, who's archives are still up.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:38pm Doug Schulkind:

It's just not the station's style to excommunicate. There are plenty of archives up from DJs with whom there was some conflict. Had he been on since WFMU went online, I guarantee you The Hound would be in the archives.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:39pm Īke:

Good point @Coel, even the infamous Weev's 2 archives are still up. @NGH, I knew about some of that -- I was at a fundraiser for OCDJ's eye surgery -- but I didn't know the whole story or that it took place at THAT lake.
Avatar 9:42pm coelacanth:

yeah,i wouldn't think so.
...i didn't know The Hound left on bad terms!
Avatar 9:42pm northguineahills:

I was at that fund raiser too!, and Dan introduced me Bjork and Matmos. I had been in email contact w/ Drew Daniels since meeting him at a punk club in Tampa a few years back, where they played. so it was fun to have a beer w/ him.
Avatar 9:43pm northguineahills:

Oh, and Vicky kicked ass that night, as per usual.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:43pm Ĩkє:

In fact, the Hound *is* in the archives, sort of -- on the FMU archives page, it links to an outside site, thehound.net -- I guess he kept his own recordings and put them up himself? That show isn't my bag at all, and the Hound seemed like a bit of a dingus in the FMU documentary movie, yet the mic breaks were often very funny and extremely well-done -- the man had style.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:48pm Doug Schulkind:

The Hound was a helluva radio performer. And is a significantly knowledgable historian and a fantastic writer. (He hasn't posted to his blog in a while, but it is well worth a fine scouring: thehoundblog.blogspot.com ) Very talented fellow. Also a first-rank contrarian and provocateur.
Avatar 9:48pm coelacanth:

hmm,i'm not familiar with "Weev". i'm intrigued!

a particular dj had a 3-hour on-air melt-down that resulted in a hiatus; that one show is not up,and i always figured it was the dj's choice. (i happen to have a cassette tape of most of it!- don't tell!)
Avatar 9:51pm northguineahills:

I'm also friends w/ small change, and he had an incident when his guests had the FCC have fmu fined, but he still dj's, and holds no grudges.
Avatar 9:52pm hyde:

this is some great fmu backstory stuff that i've never been exposed to ;)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Gary:

^What Hyde said. Who's gonna write the book?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:53pm Īke:

@Coel, I believe I know what you're referring to. That incident was extremely strange. It was a window into something I couldn't begin to comprehend. It even spilled over into the following program. Fortunately said DJ never seemed to have any similar issues again.
Avatar 9:54pm hyde:

also if the rumors are true, doug schulkind once wore lederhosen for a whole show
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:54pm listener james from westwood:

That rumor is false. Doug wears lederhosen for EVERY show.
Avatar 9:54pm northguineahills:

(he was suspended for two years, and it was quite the fine for just random profanity).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:57pm Ĩkє:

Between fines for random profanity and the KBOO incident and their total failure to shut down loads and loads of pirates interfering w/FMU and other little stations, the FCC is none too impressive.
Avatar 9:58pm northguineahills:

Oh, thanks Gary, this was a fun show theme. My gratitude!
Avatar 9:58pm coelacanth:

ngh, i'm wondering how that worked. $¢'s guest called the fcc? did they have a fight on the air?
Avatar 9:58pm Tusalava:

Ooh, Dom la Nena! She was wonderful live
Avatar 9:59pm Tusalava:

Great show!
  9:59pm Jill B.:

Nighty nite all!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 9:59pm listener james from westwood:

Freakin' excellent spread of live acts, from what must have been a ridiculously tough process of selection! Thanks!!
Avatar 9:59pm coelacanth:

Ike,yeah, you do. i was saddened hearing it,as it seemed like a genuine break down...of someone i was very fond of personally.
Avatar 10:00pm hyde:

cool show, as always. thanks!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:01pm Ĩkє:

Now it's time for Inane Troll Watch™ over on EFD's playlist! Cool show Gary! See you later.
Avatar 10:01pm northguineahills:

@coel: From what I was told, small change already maxed the dump button, and in a party atmosphere, more profanity made it through. Some random listener (thinking someone elderly), complained.
Avatar 10:02pm coelacanth:

Thank you Gary!
later on y'all!
Avatar 10:03pm coelacanth:

okay ngh- that makes more sense than what i was imagining!
Avatar 10:05pm coelacanth:

{this one gets a star!}
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Gary:

Thanks for hanging out, everyone! Have a terrific rest of your evening!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:05pm Ĩkє:

Agreed @Coel@9:59. Did that DJ ever tell you about going far off the road in an accident and not being visible from the road and then found by a Christian trucker hours & hours later only when the trucker noticed the skid marks? Yikes.
