  7:39pm Doug Schulkind:

Am enJOYing this.
  7:39pm MrFab:

Whassup, Gary! I appreciate music bloggers who don't just throw something up with no explanation. (I only have so much harddrive space so I like to know why I should download something.) I admit I could do better in that department with my own blog...but I also figure: ah, does anyone even read all this? They just grab the music and go!

...trying to put all the Music in the World on External Hardrives
- just when everyone is trying to get it floating around on Clouds, I suppose !
...& as I get older & closer to expiring w/ less time to listen to everything : P ...
Avatar 7:43pm Holly in NC:

@RRN63 - I'm with you, I do not trust this "cloud" they speak of. But my collection of xternal drives is getting ridiculous.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm Gary:

I have triple backups, based on a horror story that Holly told a while back
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:46pm coelacanth:

olá Gary Sullivan and all.
...this is exquisite.
  7:46pm MrFab:

*gasp!* Well, thank you, I'm blushing.

We can only depend on vinyl. When the world economy/technological state collapses, vinyl will be like gold.
Avatar 7:47pm hyde:

my hard drive routine is *ridiculous* now that i live in two places. on the bright side, i do keep my stuff redundantly stored hundreds of miles apart in case a meteor hits either my house or my cabin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Gary:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:48pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...come to think of it: there is a certain irony to the Beatles in Mono on Analog Vinyl being the latest Thing...
  7:48pm Doug Schulkind:

On advice of Jeff Golick, I am using Backblaze to back up my external hard drives in the cloud. Can't afford more drives, so I'm crossing my fingers.
  7:48pm Gabriel:

Music For Maniacs blog are quite something! About the text and people's not reading everything, I face this daily with IM, I'll never compete with 'Prog Not Frog' for example, but I believe there is room for everyone on the network!
Avatar 7:50pm hyde:

for dinner, I had homemade tea eggs + korean pancake, and non homemade edamame.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:50pm coelacanth:

i guess i should follow suit -with the hard drives.
I've just last week experienced my first cd-failing-for-no-apparent-reason, twice.
...(my apartment gets very hot in summer.)
Avatar 7:50pm glenn:

5 spice powder is the jam.
Avatar 7:50pm doca:

I don't like having music on digital form, actually. So to really listen to the music I download from blog I usually get together a bunch of albums and burn them on CDs, then I like to make little personal "boxsets" on cardboard and any other material I have on hand. I recommend this for people who need an occupation therapy and want to have a physical object to hold ;)
Avatar 7:53pm hyde:

@glenn i love chinese five spice too. i make a chocolate five spice butter cookie that is mighty tasty.
  7:54pm MrFab:

Thanks, Gabriel! And yes, better to write too much information than not enough. It's there if people want to read it, and if they don't want to read, they don't have to.
Avatar 7:55pm hyde:

@doca man, that is awesome
Avatar 7:56pm Holly in NC:

@Doug - Backblaze actually looks like a great deal - once finances improve I think I'lll hit you up for your thoughts.

I am noshing on ramp & radish kimchee (made locally this spring, it's the BOMB, on my 2nd to last jar, sniff), olives, flaxseed crackers, sprouted sunflower seeds coated in seaweed powder (courtesy WF bulk aisle, they are also the BOMB), walnuts, & blue cheese. And my daily brazil nut. I know, weird.

@doca, what Hyde said.
Avatar 7:57pm glenn:

ooooh. five. spice. butter. cookie. do tell.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:59pm northguineahills:

Made some seared brussel sprouts w/ crimini mushrooms cooked w/ fired basmati rice, w/ ginger, garlic, onions, fresh basil and cilantro flowers from the garden w/ soy sauce and smoked chilies. Came out pretty darn good!
Avatar 8:01pm hyde:

@glenn it's essentially just the basic butter cookie from bittman's how to cook everything minus the vanilla, with some melted chocolate mixed in and a half a teaspoon (or maybe 3/4? i don't have my cooking notes here) of five spice powder. occasionally i'll toss in a teaspoon of domaine de canton ginger liqueur for extra kick.
Avatar 8:01pm Holly in NC:

Now I want brussels sprouts. Badly.
Avatar 8:01pm hyde:

@ngh holy heck that sounds pretty darn good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:02pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

- also: I like copying CDs to lossless MP4s instead of 3s (no worse than the CDs, anyway); bigger files - but large storage just gets cheaper...
Avatar 8:02pm doca:

@hyde/Holly: Thanks! It's been a while I don't do this, but I need to do it again more often. When I was really a compulsive downloader and had like every record from a lot of jazz labels, I did it constantly. (I lost it all however when I moved, put the boxes aside and then backup-ed the mp3 files on an external hard drive that later went kaputt and I lost everything)
Avatar 8:03pm Holly in NC:

@Hyde - thoughful purchasing ;-)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:05pm coelacanth:

Holly that's a fantastic feast!
-but really ALL these recipes up here sound good. (and i'm not even hungry. I just ate my own weird concoction!)
Avatar 8:09pm Holly in NC:

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

! - a cautionary tale doca. When I lived in SantaBarbara, Cali. - & worked @ low-wage CD stores - I had much music, & no rent money (& much was needed there) - & sold so many CDs that these days I would just Rip of course !
...including 16 CDs of Coltrane on Prestige - but later a friend *happened* to have it all on MP3 to Copy - ha ha !...
- @Holly: Sounds nutritious & delicious; you should live forever...
  8:10pm SeanG:

time flies when you are buck naked
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:11pm Gary:

It does, indeed, Sean!
Avatar 8:12pm hyde:

@Holly now let me tell you about my Parfait Amour cookies :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:12pm coelacanth:

[one pot- cannellini beans, ginger, sweet potato, tahini, ume vinegar, hint of cilantro...diced garlic & lots of watercress added after it cooled a bit...I was surprised how delicious!]

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm coelacanth:

-as was yours, northguineahills! ...but let me ask you: What is fired rice? (or did you mean "fried"?! -i'm not being a wiseguy!)

Well, yes, because the idea would be to play music associated with it (it being the collecting). However, if you can somehow work music into the deal, and I can play that music, as well as relate the story, then --yes!
