How often does DO do the radio show? This is my first time actually catching it :)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm
Jeff G:

Hey, Peter! Glad you could tune in! We have new shows every other Monday at noon, with repeats in between.
  12:49pm
ricardo Montalban:

Hola, DO! Wonderful show!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm
Jeff G:

@Peter: That said, we're taking off what would be our next regularly scheduled show (3 Sept), and will be back on 10 Sept.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:51pm
Jeff G:

Hola, Ricardo! Thanks; great to have you here. ("Here.")
  12:51pm
Doug S.:

@Peter
This show airs every Monday, 12-3pm. A new show airs every other week, with rebroadcasts occurring on the in-between Mondays. The Give the Drummer Radio stream runs 24 hours a day. In its default mode, it plays a wide-ranging selection of adventurous music from all over. Every week day, there are hosted radio shows with DJs piping in from more than a half dozen locations around the country. Here is the schedule for Give the Drummer Radio:

Charles:

Just FYI for later: the 128k MP3 link on this playlist page sent me to gospel music on what might have been WFMU's main stream, rather than DO on Give the Drummer. Your link on twitter was good though
  12:58pm
Carmichael:

Yes, you do have to work to find the link to DO. It's on the main FMU page, in the left hand margin.
  1:00pm
Doug S.:

@Charles
Because of the way WFMU's playlist page template is set up, those confusing links atop the page here must remain. Usually, shows on the stream include a big fat LISTEN HERE link manually inserted by the DJ as part of the page.

Jeff, would you add that?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm
Jeff G:

Oop. Yeah, on it...
  1:02pm
Charles:

Ok! Thanks for the response. Just thought I'd point it out in case it were a mistake. I don't want anyone missing out that is interested!
  1:42pm
Brian in UK:

Hello gents, just a quick howdeedoodee. Cannot get you in the kitchen so it's Calle 54 blasting out. Food note: Carbonara for dinner. Just hitting James Baldwin for the first time, tough, demanding and rewarding; bit like DO.
  1:43pm
Doug S.:

I just DL'd Rutherford's "Chicago 2002" the other day. Mighty lovely stuff.
  1:44pm
AGHARTA-PANGEA:

Hi Jeff & Jeff,
new to this show although I generally listen to Mr Coulter's show on Tuesdays (freeform and full of hiss!)
I like what I am hearing and have been into "AVANT JAZZ" for a long time. I realise that most of it has been underground since the mid 60s but thank you (and Doug S) for presenting it bravely on public radio, probably the only show on the planet that does.
  1:45pm
northguineahills:

This has been superb! And, Supersilent doesn't get enough air time around WFMU.
  1:45pm
ricardo Montalban:

Hola, Jeff G! Enjoying the soundz!
  1:46pm
Doug S.:

@Brain in UK
Baldwin is one of my very favorites. Fiction, non-fiction, essays, brilliance. I have long guessed that Archie Shepp's conversation "Rufus (Swung, His Face at Last to the Wind, Then His Neck Snapped)" was inspired by a character in Baldwin's "Another Country" (the character Rufus who jumps off the George Washington Bridge).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm
Jeff G:

Thanks for kind comments, @Agharta-Pangea; @northguineahills, @ricardo!
  1:49pm
Richard from Venezuela:

Greetings Jeffs, Doug and all the listeners.
  1:50pm
Brian in UK:

Yes, Rufus the DRUMMER. Baldwin has some memorable descriptive one-liners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:52pm
Jeff G:

@Brian in UK & @ Doug S: Agree re Baldwin. That is a fierce cat. He had an op-ed in the NYTimes, late 1960s, that can actually singe one's hair.
  1:53pm
AGHARTA-PANGEA:

always wondered whether the Albert Ayler box set Holy Ghost is worth getting? Any views appreciated
  1:57pm
Brian in UK:

'He felt a shoe fly off behind him, there was nothing around him, only the wind, all right, you motherf**king Godalmighty bastard, I'm coming to you'
  1:58pm
Brian in UK:

The maths for that was 666! True.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm
Jeff G:

Ah, here's the Baldwin/NYT piece: www.nytimes.com...
HARDCORE.
  2:06pm
Peter:

Is Baldwin the most beloved writer of avant-jazz fans? He is mine :)
  2:12pm
Brian in UK:

Thanks Jeff. Relentlessness.
  2:53pm
listener james from westwood:

god-damn! what an ending! many thanks for the show, guys!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:54pm
Jeff G:

Man, love Jeanne Lee's laughter at the end of that.

Awesome! Thanks again!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm

Thanks as ever for tuning in, listener james!
