Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Hi, Bronwyn, fellow Acidic Jazz Handers. Bronwyn, it was nice to hear you do some backup vocals at the Hoof and Mouth. Next year, though (I should live so long), I'm hoping to hear you doing lead vocals on a song of your choosing!

For high schoolers, I'd say they're pretty good. Better than my high school chorus, but that's a low bar to get over. :-)

Perhaps a show of tunes from off-off-Broadway musicals and/or musicals that can be seen on the cheap. This is right off the top of my head.

It's Always Fair Weather is also a fun example of movies in that window of time when the studios were feeling very threatened by television and took every opportunity possible to crap on the small screen for its technical shortcomings and allegedly inferior and vapid programming

These sets and your discussion, Bronwyn, raises an interesting question: Should every song in a musical be something that moves the plot along, or otherwise it gets cut? I'm more in the school that says a good song is it's own justification.
