But this is the more well known, and better, show featuring the same character. But the phrase "A Man Named Jordan" will pop up pretty often, to reference that show.

	🎸 ♥ 9:34pm Austin Rich: ↳ Maulydaft @9:32 I think there were "rudimentary" laws in place (thought not many) that limited the things you could say about cigarettes. I think a lot of people ended up aping the same copy, as no one knew how to sell something that isn't good for you.

"The Adventures of Rocky Jordan," was produced by "Santana Productions," the studio that produced "Bold Venture," and owned by Bogart & Bacall. Bogart had been asked to do a version of "Casablanca" for the radio for years, and was not interested in turning the show into something that was serialized. But his production company was happy to do it with another actor, and re-tooled the older premise of "A Man Named Jordan" for this show, staring Jack Moyles in the lead (who was known for having a lot of range for voices on the radio). While not exactly a Bogart impression, it's as if the characters probably grew up in the same neighborhood.

	🎸 ♥ 9:41pm Austin Rich: There's some noise in the back of this episode, but try as I might, everything I did to remove it ruined the sound of the show, so I left it in. Most Old Time Radio shows were archived by fans on cassette (or in may cases, reel to reel). So many of the versions of these shows that survive into the modern age have the same sound limitations as the tape they were originally captured on.

	🎸 ♥ 9:44pm Austin Rich: While Rocky does get knocked out from time to time, it's not exactly a gimmick for him. Still... will it happen next time...? Who can say? That's often half the fun of these shows: who's going to suffer brain damage the most?
	🎸 ♥ 9:48pm Austin Rich: Jay Novello does the voice of Sam Sabaaya. Jay is American, as near as I can figure, and was known for his ability to do "impressions." (Often, voices of people from other countries.) So accents like this were sort of what he was known for... and it wasn't really cool then, either. Jay was in a million TV shows, movies, and radio shows... and was a very skilled actor. And he adds a lot of character to Sam, a character that could be a boring cop. Still, it's a little weird to hear this accent, given the person playing the character.
	🎸 ♥ 9:50pm Austin Rich: We learn more and more about Rocky Jordan as the show goes on, but all we really know about him at this point is he's an American now living in Cario, runing the Cafe Tamborine. We'll add to that backstore as time goes on.
	🎸 ♥ 9:53pm Austin Rich: During Rocky's conversation with Sam, he implies that Sam has warned him about getting in trouble with cases like this before. (And this is the first episode.) A sly, "meta" reference to the previous version of this show, from 1945.

As the decades wear on, and I have not experienced anything to back up any kind of magic no matter how hard I try... I have come to the conclusion that it's not real. Or some force is trying to hide it from me on purpose.

	🎸 ♥ 10:44pm Austin Rich: I've used the same tools I mentioned earlier to try and isolate the sounds from certain X-Minus one episodes, and while it does work, they don't sound a good as I'd like. Some are better than others... it just depends on the show and how good the recording of the original show is.

I know a lot of scientists were angry that light pollution from cities were making it hard to look at stars, but I think that's been a historic problem since there was electricity.

	♥ 10:49pm Maulydaft: ↳ Austin Rich @10:42 I don't know if this is any help to you but back in the 90s when I was sound editing and there wasn't really internet I was using sound effects on CD and I got the impression that these were effects that had been used for decades (and I could recognize some of them in other productions) But I don't know if NBC would have these copyrighted and therefore not on the sound effect CDs. Pretty much all sound houses used the same CD library back then...

But this is the more well known, and better, show featuring the same character. But the phrase "A Man Named Jordan" will pop up pretty often, to reference that show.

	🎸 ♥ 9:33pm Austin Rich: ↳ Song: ""The Bartered Bridegroom"" by "The Adventures of ... This show debuted on "Halloween," which is pretty bold, as that is usually a night people are out, even back then. Still, a lot of people seemed to like this show, so enough people heard it.
	🎸 ♥ 9:34pm Austin Rich: ↳ Maulydaft @9:32 I think there were "rudimentary" laws in place (thought not many) that limited the things you could say about cigarettes. I think a lot of people ended up aping the same copy, as no one knew how to sell something that isn't good for you.

"The Adventures of Rocky Jordan," was produced by "Santana Productions," the studio that produced "Bold Venture," and owned by Bogart & Bacall. Bogart had been asked to do a version of "Casablanca" for the radio for years, and was not interested in turning the show into something that was serialized. But his production company was happy to do it with another actor, and re-tooled the older premise of "A Man Named Jordan" for this show, staring Jack Moyles in the lead (who was known for having a lot of range for voices on the radio). While not exactly a Bogart impression, it's as if the characters probably grew up in the same neighborhood.

	🎸 ♥ 9:41pm Austin Rich: There's some noise in the back of this episode, but try as I might, everything I did to remove it ruined the sound of the show, so I left it in. Most Old Time Radio shows were archived by fans on cassette (or in may cases, reel to reel). So many of the versions of these shows that survive into the modern age have the same sound limitations as the tape they were originally captured on.

	🎸 ♥ 9:44pm Austin Rich: While Rocky does get knocked out from time to time, it's not exactly a gimmick for him. Still... will it happen next time...? Who can say? That's often half the fun of these shows: who's going to suffer brain damage the most?
	🎸 ♥ 9:48pm Austin Rich: Jay Novello does the voice of Sam Sabaaya. Jay is American, as near as I can figure, and was known for his ability to do "impressions." (Often, voices of people from other countries.) So accents like this were sort of what he was known for... and it wasn't really cool then, either. Jay was in a million TV shows, movies, and radio shows... and was a very skilled actor. And he adds a lot of character to Sam, a character that could be a boring cop. Still, it's a little weird to hear this accent, given the person playing the character.
	🎸 ♥ 9:50pm Austin Rich: We learn more and more about Rocky Jordan as the show goes on, but all we really know about him at this point is he's an American now living in Cario, runing the Cafe Tamborine. We'll add to that backstore as time goes on.
	🎸 ♥ 9:53pm Austin Rich: During Rocky's conversation with Sam, he implies that Sam has warned him about getting in trouble with cases like this before. (And this is the first episode.) A sly, "meta" reference to the previous version of this show, from 1945.

As the decades wear on, and I have not experienced anything to back up any kind of magic no matter how hard I try... I have come to the conclusion that it's not real. Or some force is trying to hide it from me on purpose.

	🎸 ♥ 10:42pm Austin Rich: I have become obsessed with the idea of finding a disc of the music cues from NBC Radio in the 50's, which would allow me to find the source sounds that appear in the background of X-Minus One episodes. Such a thing probably existed, but finding one seems challenging.

	🎸 ♥ 10:44pm Austin Rich: I've used the same tools I mentioned earlier to try and isolate the sounds from certain X-Minus one episodes, and while it does work, they don't sound a good as I'd like. Some are better than others... it just depends on the show and how good the recording of the original show is.

	🎸 ♥ 10:46pm Austin Rich: Something tells me this is based on a true story in our real world, but I can't put my finger to a specific example. I know a lot of scientists were angry that light pollution from cities were making it hard to look at stars, but I think that's been a historic problem since there was electricity.

	♥ 10:49pm Maulydaft: ↳ Austin Rich @10:42 I don't know if this is any help to you but back in the 90s when I was sound editing and there wasn't really internet I was using sound effects on CD and I got the impression that these were effects that had been used for decades (and I could recognize some of them in other productions) But I don't know if NBC would have these copyrighted and therefore not on the sound effect CDs. Pretty much all sound houses used the same CD library back then...
