Yeah. It's part of why I am spending the equivalent of an airline ticket to get an Uber to and from the big bi-annual family thing in central NJ. This year, it's everyone who is married visiting "our" side of the family. It's waaaaaaaay in the sticks and there's only one train out there every 90 minutes and it's a 45 minute drive after the station so just biting the bullet. Also with the world being its current shitshow, I REALLY do NOT want to be in Penn Station on the most worst horrible travel day of the year.

Yeah, I get carsick if a car is smelly and if it's too hot. Even as a kid, if it was snowing/freezing rain and we were driving out to the BX/the Island to visit family, I would HAVE to have the back window open a crack on both sides even if it was Arctic out. Sinus damages/TBI. And all Dramamine does is turn me into a piece of furniture -- an overheated, carsick piece of furniture.

Oh you wanna hear a T-day story before I get my butt back to work? Do I have one for ya. My Mom, may she rest in peace, made Thanksgiving dinner for crowds as large as 50+ some years back in the day -- including the year she gave birth to my brother ON THANKSGIVING. Mom went into labor in the AM, immediately called her parents who were driving out from Long Island and my aunt in the BX -- plan was for Grands to pick up Aunt on the way in to Mom's. I got sent to the next door neighbors to chill (I was 9) until they got to my house. I remember calling everyone whose name I could find in Mom's Rolodex to tell them RE the changed plans while at neighbor's. Grands showed up in Grandpa's beaten up Gold Duster, and we loaded food for about 30 people -- including an absolutely monster of a turkey and a ham the size of a Volkswagen, along with appetizers/munchies etc -- into the trunk. Off to my Aunt's in the Bronx we went. Mom had had the baby after a very difficult delivery by the time we got there; Mom had called one of her cousins from the recovery room and she actually brought a cake up to the BX also with my new brother's name on it. Crowded a mob into my Aunt's tiny 1BR stabilized apartment up by Bronx Park. So yeah, as Mom got older and the cousins dropped off on picking up the slack after Mom just couldn't do it all with just me and her around, she and I would remind them that she still pulled off Thanksgiving WHILE HAVING A WHOLE ASS BABY.

LOL ALL of the baby crap that people got my Mom-photo albums, outfits for "baby's first photo shoot" etc were football/sports themed. Bro turned out to be somewhere between David Bowie and Joey Arias on the gayness scale. OTOH his husband, who is downright "Elton John/Liberace" on the gay scale, is actually...wait for it...a sports writer. He is the only person I know who knows where the ONE gay sports bar is in major cities. Go figure.

I don't know about that one; will have to ask my BIL! :) I don't follow sports AT ALL; I put up with it all when I go to one of my 2 locals, one of which is a sports/bookie bar. I'm middle aged and still can't figure out the rules of American Football. All I see it a buncha guys wearing what looks like deconstructed compact cars as body armor, making lines, running into each other for 3 yards or less, and doing it all over again for 5 hours.

I was in NYC last month for a week, and got to play love w/ Daniel Carter. WFMU's Kendraplex played the set on her show. So, I met her, Irene, Peter, 3M, tom-tom, dr jazz, david weinstein, ruth, and more. it was handy's bday, week, so I couldn't cross paths w/ him. I was supposed to meet mona, but i got the date wrong. It was a blast, and why I've had the florida blues since I got back (and being skint af as i only budgeted to mid october, as that's when I thought my job would start)
