Do you have some radio movies cued up for some future holiday Austin? I love those.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:06pm
Austin Rich:

↳ Song: ""The Valley of The Moon"" by "Candy Matson"
So, the episode from 10 December 1949 was also a holiday episode, about the folks working in Santas village at a Department Store. This one is supposed to be set "spending New Years" at the ranch. So we can guess that the next episode should be set in 1950, at some point in January.

I was thinking about doing a movie episode at some point this summer, like a "summer break" situation.

Kitty Foyle would be a good choice.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:09pm

Some movies might actually work as "audio plays," as a lot of old movies do a good job of having a character sort of describe what's happening in the scene.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:09pm
Austin Rich:

You sort of get the impression that Mallard likes Westerns more than he likes Candy.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:11pm

The "Dude Ranch Vacation" plot has appeared in a few Detective shows, and some of the plots get recycled, for sure. But I think this one takes a slightly different tack than normal.

Austin Rich:

One character detail about Candy that I appreciate is that she gets angry when people are rude to her, and she doesn't back down. An unusual trait for a west-coaster, but I think that's on purpose: Candy's personality sticks out, in a way that makes her a lot different than a lot of the typical characterizations.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:24pm

You can tell that this era of Candy Matson was live, because there's a fair number of small "flubs" in the dialog readings. They're not common, but just common enough to remind you that, yes, they were live!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:24pm
Austin Rich:

↳ ImaginosBuzzardoDesdinova @9:23
Maybe!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:27pm
Austin Rich:

This show does like to reinforce that Candy is very "pretty," to make the juxtaposition of her living a "rough and tumble" lifestyle that much more interesting.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:29pm
Austin Rich:

So, they spent at least one night on the ranch. They were supposed to stay "over New Years." The show revealed Candy Arriving... so unless there is a lot of time compression going on, New Year's Eve still hasn't happened. It's strange that no one else seems to mention it, or seems to be looking forward to it...?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:31pm
Austin Rich:

Candy even admits when she's wrong! She's the entire package.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 9:33pm

And I guess that ending takes place after she's already returned... so certainly the next episode should be set in 1950 already.

I’m more curious about the origin of insultingly using index fingers to outline the shape of a square (revived in the 1994 movie “Pulp Fiction”).
The oldest example I know of is Harvey Kurtzman and Jack Davis’ “Alice in Wonderland!” parody in MAD #18 (cover dated December 1954).

The only Canadian radio I've ever listened to is Hamilton's CHML (900 AM), which I can receive in my car radio as far south as Ocean County!
For years, they repeated classic radio programs every night from 10 p.m. till 1 a.m.
Then as 2022 began, they limited it to weekend nights only. I'm still irate about that.
