"In 1899, popular St Louis balladeer Bill Dooley composed "Frankie Killed Allen" shortly after the Baker murder case.[5] The first published version of the music to "Frankie and Johnny" appeared in 1904, credited to and copyrighted by Hughie Cannon, the composer of "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey"; "

Interesting that you speak Esperanto, David! I am fascinated by the concept of the language to unite people.

Just out of curiosity, how difficult is it to learn for a native English speaker?

And have you found many people out there who also speak Esperanto?
Avatar 1:26pm
Carmichael:

↳ David in California @1:06
I was a huge fan of Mad magazine as a Ute. They did dozens of parodies of popular songs, sometimes to great effect. I remember the parody of Red River Valley, singing about the highway crew that was building an interstate through the bucolic countryside.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:33pm
David Dichelle:

↳ Mr. Oxford @1:26
It is in fact likely the easiest language to learn as an English speaker as it is based on European languages and is meant to be as straightforward and regular as possible. Of course some effort is still involved :) And yes, I do know quite a number of people who speak it. There is a relatively large and friendly community out there.

David in California:

I found the lyrics for the Mad Magazine parody of Roud 254. They appeared in Issue No. 91 of Dec. '64, and were written by Frank Jacobs:

Huntley and Brinkley were partners,
Workin’ for ol’ NBC;
They swore they would stay with each other
Each weekday on TV
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!

Huntley and Brinkley were wonders;
Their fame it grew far and wide;
They won themselves 86 Emmies And a plaque from TV Guide;
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!

Brinkley one evening was workin’;
Givin’ the news on the air;
He said, “Now we'll switch to Chet Huntley—"
But old Huntley wasn’t there!
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!

Brinkley hopped into an airplane,
A jet that was New York-bound;
He said, “I won't leave that big city,
“Till Huntley I have found!”
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!

Dave went to the NBC station;
And, golly, he pretty-near died;
"Cause there in the news-room was Huntley
With Eric Sevareid!
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!

Now you can take Martin from Lewis;
And you can take Desi from Lu;
But take away Huntley from Brinkley
And ol NBC is through!
Chet was Dave's pal,
But he done him wrong!
