Merrily We Roll Along is a mish-mash of high energy lunacy, reverence, and irreverence for forgotten pop stars, love for Saturday morning cartoons, and exploration of the side of Bandcamp where I seem to be the only one purchasing. Bringing to you the odd and the upbeat from a growing collection of pre-rock novelties, classic and neo-Vaudeville, jug bands, polka, klezmer, and more at the convenient hour of 8-9 AM EST, Merrily We Roll Along starts the day off with a little light-hearted musical tomfoolery cut with an occasional comedy sketch. It's organic, free-range, cheese with the occasional onion thrown in.

Interesting they released this is 1966 as sort of a roots of grace slick album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "The Laird" by "Mountain"
Climbing doesn't feel like it should be a debut album... very put together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:13pm
MHLee:

I guess it helps the bass player produced Disraeli Gears
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm

↳ Song: "The Dream" by "Orpheus"
this is nice
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:15pm
MHLee:

↳ Aitch @10:15
It's the odd song on the album. The rest of it has the feeling of blood sweat and tears with the horns missing.

Texas had such a good music scene
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:32pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Donovan's Reef" by "Country Joe & the Fish"
I've always thought people were too quick to dismiss this band because the two songs that made it into the Woodstock movie aren't showcasing their abilities
  10:35pm
Chuck:

Barry Meltons guitar was so ahead of its time!!!...:)

Absolutely and the way it plays off the organ is always great!

Having grown up watching 'MontereyPop' on TV like once a year - I didn't have that problem. Also - CJ & the Fish's 1st album is indispensable.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Movement" by "P.R.O. (People Rock Outfit)"
Note on album.
"Warning this pakket contains a contact bomb
And will explode if placed on any record deck.

They have a great performance there
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:40pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Movement" by "P.R.O. (People Rock Outfit)"
Think this is the only song on the album with this vocalist. Only song that sounds like this for sure. Tight rhythm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Distortions of Darkness" by "The 31 Flavors"
That track listing is absolutely not the order on the album

↳ Song: "The Shield" by "Deep Purple"
Appreciate Blackmore for being upfront how much he got from Hendrix. A lot of people kinda try & deflect attention from that...

↳ Revolution Rabbit Nov63 @11:15
A few years ago there were some great curated playlists with commentary from the deep purple folks on spotify

Dang … I missed the Black Merda song !
- imo, Black Merda remain under appreciated & overlooked.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Sunshine People" by "Paper Garden"
The guitar work on this has a fuzzier garage tone then you would expect.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30pm

Some reviews I have found really disliked the vocal work.

That's like this whole symbolic thing in ny head ...the point where snotty Fuzz boxes that cut your sustain became heavy Distortion that extended it...

I've seen that album called the American answer to SGT Peppers but it didn't go anywhere I think
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33pm

The album cover is one of those you could spend a lot of time studying
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35pm
MHLee:

↳ Song: "Wear Your Love Like Heaven" by "Donovan"
This song kind of creeps me out. The xylophone and organ is eerie and the lyrics are surreal.
