I just listened to the first half of Cornelius Cardew's Treatise as performed in 2017 by London Experimental Ensemble. It is radiant. But the notes observe that Cardew was inspired by Hesse's Glass Bead Game. I know I've read some Hesse, but neither GBG nor Steppenwolf.
