Exactly. The humor mocks rock pretensions, or that's how I would have heard it. Reminds me of an early encore performed by the Kronos Quartet. After a program of a new work or two, a Bartok, they'd do a medley of television theme songs, including the Lucy theme.

The inspiration for the name was indeed the Modern Jazz Quartet, and Terry once told me that it was intended as a joke. He also said that, contrary to some reports, it was always "Rhythm and Blues," never "Rockabilly."

I'm loving this show (and hoping you will have time to include "Ain't Nice to Talk Like That," for obvious reasons).

Irene reminded me to tell you and your listeners that, way back when I was still living with my parents, my mother once invited Terry and Donn over for dinner. Terry walked all the way from midtown Manhattan (I think) to the Upper West Side in his bare feet. Donn was a little more dressed up. They were both very happy to meet my father.
