Favoriting April 12, 2023: Egypt 1966
The year before the 1967 War, legendary singer Oum Kalthoum and composer Riad El-Sunbati released “Al Atlal,” generally recognized as the pinnacle of Kalthoum’s artistic career, and arguably one of the greatest songs of the 20th Century. This all-vinyl episode explores some three-dozen releases from the same tumultuous year, ranging from escapist twist, cha-cha-cha, and comedic novelties to gut-wrenching refrains of unrequited love and amped-up demonstrations of national pride.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 7:41pm
Gary:

↳ TDK60 @7:39
Full transparency: These records were spun on Saturday and Sunday, when I ripped them to FLAC files. I only have one turntable, plus most of these songs extend across both Sides A and B, so I join them in Audacity. But, yes, you *are* listening to vinyl spinning (and then digitally mediated)

While it has been many years since I was a smoker, I like the idea of poles interspersed here and there with gas lines coming up through them that are sensor-activated so that when you get close to one, the flame goes on, as if offering to light your cigarette (or hair, if one is not careful)
