Meanwhile, another superstar with whom I got schoolin', and in fact with whom I went to high school, Lorna Patterson, played the singing nun in Airplane! and Private Benjamin in the TV series, went on to become a cantor. I admire that.

But what I saw of my high school elders way back in the '70s was an immense fund of talent that television and film could in no way fully realize. They were foremost stage artists.
