Kittimu:

I've never actually heard anything by Billy Tibbals, I can't find any of his music
  3:02pm
Cheree July:

Heh chat! Here in studio to help Don.👍
Avatar 3:03pm
Debbie Davenport:

Hi Cheree and Kittimu! I've been meaning to listen to Billy Tibbals also. I didn't know that stuff was hard to find. I hear reference to him/them a lot.
  3:06pm
Kittimu:

He doesn't seem to have a bandcamp, he's not on spotify, all the clips on YouTube are live
  3:06pm
Kittimu:

I tried to watch a live one once but the audio quality wasn't great and I could barely hear it
  3:07pm
Kittimu:

And when I looked him up there were like 5 results then it showed a WFMU archive of this very show displaying a comment that looked like it was written by me, so that's how little info there is
Avatar 3:07pm
Debbie Davenport:

Now I'm even more curious.
  3:08pm
Kittimu:

But he's playing shows every 5 seconds so he must have songs
  3:08pm
Kittimu:

And it's the same for all his friends, they've got such a presence and they have no visible music
Avatar 3:09pm
Debbie Davenport:

Maybe they will be signed soon? Do they have a facebook page where people can message them?
  3:09pm
Kittimu:

I'm not sure, I haven't checked there.
  3:20pm
Cheree July:

Hi Debbie! I've seen the Billy Tibbals Band live so far.
Avatar 3:20pm
Debbie Davenport:

Tell us about it. Did they have a merch table?
Avatar 3:20pm
Debbie Davenport:

when you can. I forgot you're working.
  3:21pm
Kittimu:

are they any good?
  3:22pm
Cheree July:

Kittmu, yeah, they're good live, but Don thinks they need more hooks.
Avatar 3:23pm
Debbie Davenport:

Well maybe that's why we don't find much, yet. They are maybe still developing themselves into what they are going for.
Avatar 3:24pm
Debbie Davenport:

Ooh I like Astrologer. I wore one of my Astrologer shirts a couple days ago.
  3:25pm
Kittimu:

Oh by the way I've got a question for you guys on behalf of one of my friends; can a song still be classified as junkshop glam if it's from, say, the 80s or 90s? Or is it solely a 70s thing
Avatar 3:36pm
Debbie Davenport:

That's a question I don't know the answer to. My guess is it's specific to records people got rid of in the 70's so they wound up in junkshops but are valuable to people now. Don has mentioned that on air before. Not as an answer to a question like that though.
Avatar 3:39pm
Debbie Davenport:

Good Rodney impersonation!
  3:40pm
Cheree July:

Debbie, I didn't catch that one😅
  3:44pm
Kittimu:

Oh speaking of Sweet do you guys know any similar heavy glam bands? I'm running out of luck looking for them
Avatar 3:45pm
Debbie Davenport:

Kittimu, sometimes Don will play top hitmakers that were less likely to wind up in junkshops, like the Sweet. So that has to be factored in somehow too.
Bands with similar sounds that are current or from back then?
  3:47pm
Kittimu:

Anything. I'm trying to get someone into glam and the only band they like is the Sweet so far and I'm having trouble finding similar things
Avatar 3:52pm
Debbie Davenport:

Current- Hammered Satin and Fever Dog I keep meaning to listen to Gyasi, I even have a top fan badge on facebook, but I keep getting lost in his hot photos. He looks great in red eyeshadow. I saw a tiny live clip and that looked good.
Old Stuff Plastic Feet Big Blonde Baby, Super Angel, a group the sweet worked with, or maybe just one member worked with is Angel Good Time Fanny and more. they are pretty good. You can find these bands on previous shows in the archives and see the cool sleeves too. I"ve been collecting them.
  3:53pm
Kittimu:

I tried sending him fever dog and he didn't like it. Too afraid to send hammered satin. I sent him Godhead by Gyasi once and he said it sounded "like car commercial music" and I wanted to punch him. I think i might have a lost cause
  3:54pm
Kittimu:

Also you HAVE to listen to gyasi he's so good.
Avatar 3:55pm
Debbie Davenport:

there is more than one band who goes by the name angel. Here is a clip from the official Sweet channel on youtube. that should appeal to your friend. that Sweet still promotes them. www.youtube.com...
Avatar 3:58pm
Debbie Davenport:

OKay Kittimu. That will be my homework assignment this week.
  3:59pm
Kittimu:

Also I just sent that guy the vid of Angel, if he gets back to me I will let you know what he thinks
Avatar 4:01pm
Debbie Davenport:

Maybe your friend prefers smoother top hit level music. My husband loves how i play different music in the house now that I'm listening to wired up. That's why he lets me give WFMU big donations. He's into stuff like Yngwie Malmsteen and Rush. So sounds like your guy a little. Maybe your friend is just not open enough at this time. Could be more open later.
Yeah I'm curious about if that appeals to him.
  4:01pm
Kittimu:

All his favorite songs are weird Guns n Roses demos and stuff from obscure glam metal bands, if that says anything.
Avatar 4:02pm
Debbie Davenport:

Some people are content with just scratching the surface. Oh, maybe he is not that way though. sounds like he is perfect for this stuff. I can see why you're trying to do this.
Avatar 4:03pm
Debbie Davenport:

I would go through the wired up archives and hand select bands you think he'd like.
Avatar 4:04pm
Debbie Davenport:

Buster Ring Around is super cool!
  4:04pm
Kittimu:

This is the same guy I mentioned a while back that said he likes the Guns N' Roses cover of buick mckane better and won't listen to the original, by the way.... ugh.
  4:04pm
Kittimu:

He keeps saying the songs I send have "too much piano" (read: any at all), and keeps hating on the singers' voices. Like, the guy listens to Axl Rose, the worst voice of all time!
  4:05pm
Kittimu:

The best reaction I've got from him was from Blockbuster by Sweet which he rated a 9/10
Avatar 4:06pm
Debbie Davenport:

Sounds frustrating. I gotta admit sometimes I like covers better too though. I like piano, so I didn't consider that.
Oh Don is playing the single I am using in my WFMU profile picture.
Avatar 4:07pm
Debbie Davenport:

I like how he goes "Taste.... aaah!"
Avatar 4:08pm
Debbie Davenport:

and the word "impeccable"
  4:08pm
Kittimu:

I mean, I feel that. (Don't kill me for this, but I like the Quiet Riot covers of those Slade songs quite a bit). Apparently glam metal bands cover glam rock songs so much it's nigh impossible to send him anything he's not used to a different version of if it's anything popular
  4:09pm
Kittimu:

Anyway, side note re: Gyasi, I'd say his song Kiss Kiss is the most classically glam sounding one, and I also really like the music video for All Messed Up
Avatar 4:10pm
Debbie Davenport:

Don plays Geordie on this show. Lots last week happened. It features an ACDC singer. more of a macho vibe. I like masculine voices in this kind of stuff too. it was one of the things that surprised me. That some of these singers sound so manly for glam.
Rabbit Too Much Rock n Roll is one to play for him too. and the song we're hearing now!
  4:11pm
Kittimu:

Ok, thanks for the tips
Avatar 4:12pm
Debbie Davenport:

I like Eddie Cochran, but I like Blue Cheer's version of summertime blues more. I don't think you should feel uncomfortable with your own preferences. We all like different flavors of ice cream right? what if we were all expected to only like strawberry ice cream.
Avatar 4:14pm
Debbie Davenport:

Rabbit has Dave Evans from ACDC as the singer. forgot to mention that.
All this stuff I learned from Wired Up!
  4:21pm
Kittimu:

I think jobriath's ok. I don't like all his songs but Be Still and Rock of Ages are solid.
Avatar 4:22pm
Debbie Davenport:

I've never listened to Jobriath. Not on purpose, but just never happened. I did notice the albums all over.
  4:22pm
Kittimu:

Also, one version of I'm a Man by Jobriath is way better than the other (IMO) and it took me months to get into him cause I'd been listening to the wrong version
Avatar 4:29pm
Debbie Davenport:

Oh I Love this goofy song. I still haven't found one.
Avatar 4:29pm

Always nice to have a Wired Up archive up sleeve for the slow times
  4:35pm

Kittimu, Jobriath was from PA not far from where I grew up.
  4:35pm
Kittimu:

Hey, that's cool

Hello Cheree July.
Good you're helping out.
Wondering if you could ask Don if any Klausmeyer stuff was supposed to go out with the pledges stuff?
Avatar 4:48pm
Debbie Davenport:

Kittimu Cozy Powell was in Rainbow, Whitesnake, Micheal Schneker Group, Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck and more. That is something to bring up with your friend maybe. Gordon brought a lot of his stuff into my collection, but only a couple of his records really grab me. This is one of them.
  4:48pm
Kittimu:

Ooh, interesting, thanks
Avatar 4:50pm
Debbie Davenport:

If he doesn't care where things come from, I guess all this stuff is not so important. I think it's cool to find out what musicians I like listened to or who they played with. Like the bubblegum band Message sounds a lot like the Ramones. I'd be surprised if some of them didn't have that in their collections.
Avatar 4:51pm
Debbie Davenport:

I think I miss working in record stores more than I miss being a dj. haha. Lots of conversations like this one every day at the counter.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll keep you updated
